I gained admission into a federal university in 2014 just a year after I lost my parents and struggled so hard to pay my school fees and accommodation with minimal assistance from relatives.

I am a medical student and so I applied for Agbami scholarship; I wrote the test and was awarded the scholarship in 2016 (200 level). Stipend was 200K yearly so long as I maintained a gpa of 3.0 or more each preceding session.

Now in my 4th year, I lost the scholarship. Reason: According to the email I received from Agbami (see attached screenshot), I had a gpa of 2.59 in my 3rd year result sheet sent to them by my faculty.
This is less than the stipulated 3.0 minimum required grade. Further, In the email I was given two weeks to contest and rectify the result if incorrect. But at the time I saw this message it was too late, the time had elapsed. I lost the scholarship and I moved on.

Now things became more difficult for me going forward as I had to work part time, my grade flunked even worse and I had to repeat some level several times and a 6yrs course extended to 9yrs not including ASUU strike and the COVID pandemic.

Well luckily for me, I'll be rounding up my program in February and while going through a copy of my result transcripts I discovered that the gpa was 3.59 for my 3rd year and not 2.59 as declared by Agbami.

I want retribution and so I'm asking anyone with a decent knowledge of the law: do I have a good case and what amount of money can I request in damages?

Thanks in anticipation of your helpful inputs.

This is Nairaland so insensitive, unintelligent, abusive and foul-mouthed comments are welcome too. I accommodate all inclinations and proclivities.

In my case, if I commit suicide now, hold UNICAL accountable for frustrating my life and throwing me into depression.

Before taking action against your sch reach out to the scholarship board ,if you can still redeemed your claims or probably you can pick up your scholarship for the remaining years

No try am o. On top free money.
But why does medical school not give cgpa? I would love to see how many of them are four-pointers.

Let the sleeping dog lie my brother. Thank God you have moved on. Just ensure you make necessary corrections before your last paper.

Let me relate

I requested for a copy of my transcript to a UNI for my PG years ago. The course in the cover letter was different from that of my transcript. I was called from the PG school to contact my UNI. Can you believe I paid another transcript fee and courier charges for an error I didn't know anything about? In saner climes, I would be compensated. In Nigeria, you can loose all the years of struggle.

Just let it go. Better days ahead...

Nigeria universities especially the public ones knows how to frustrate students in different ways.
Few of of these lecturers are nice and the rest of the lots are bunch of sadist doctors and professors, undecided

Make sure you get your certificate and then proceed sue them, They are responsible for the error undecided

It is too much of "let the sleeping dog lie" that kept Nigeria where it is. A University, caused unnecessary pressure on the young man, denied him of his scholarship which in turn, made him start working in order to pay his fees and as a result of that, his grade dropped even further. Do you know how many jobs he may lose in the future because his grades are not up to the level recruiters want? Do you know that this "sleeping dog" can mar this guy's life?

My first option is for you to get a good lawyer (some will even do it for free and will ask for money when you win the case), and sue the University. This option will likely pay for all damages and future costs in your career. The second option however, is to get back to the scholarship body and explain what happened. You may be lucky to be paid back the amounts you are owed.

When you know a system will not favour you, why test the waters? Yes, getting them to court will go a long way in jurisprudence and keep UNI on their feet.

Remember, the case will linger for so long and you expect the management to treat the guy with kid gloves. He would be labelled. It is what it is. You won't be there when ugly things happen to him.

The guy struggled all his life to obtain this certificate with good grades and you want him to sue the school for an error. Omo, he would graduate and regret why he went to court.

Let the sleeping dog lie. This is where we found ourselves.

Witchunting at it's peak

Please sue them, but wait till completion of your final MBBs exams..... This has really affected your progress; even if you didn't get monetary compensation, they should pay for the emotional and psychological damages undecided undecided undecided undecided
