Please I need your help.

I recently got an online remote job (customer service Agent) from US. Although the job is met for people in the US, but with the help of a friend over there, I got the job without the company knowing I don’t reside in the US.

Also with the help of VPN, I have been able to access the site because only US IP address can open some of their sites.

Agents are accessed weekly and scores are allocated to them based on their performance. This is done either by listen to your recorded conversation with client or remotely connect to your system and listen live to the conversation.

Now this issue: The company can only listen to my recorded conversations with clients but can’t remotely connect to my system to listen to my live phone conversation with clients, my system keeps blocking them out and they have sent series of messages that they won’t longer listen to recorded conversations and this can make them drop me.

Guru’s in the house, please is there something I need to do? Is it that the VPN is blocking the remote connection or there’s something I need to do on my system to enable them connect and listen to me live or the network i connected to is not strong.

Please your swift help will be highly appreciated.

I think they discovered something about my IP address so they wanted to be sure I reside in the US because the job is exclusively for US citizens and you must be living in the US. As a agent, I have access to client details including CC details. So they requested for a zoom video call and also requested that I show my US ID Card. Lol.

My contact over there did the zoom video call for me and also provided his ID.

Did the employers provide a work laptop/computer? If yes where is that computer currently located? Na all these proxy roles and it can get tricky. But let’s start from there. Where is the work computer located and how are you accessing it?

They can live monitor directly on the VoIP server by dialing the required feature code.

Any explain how you are connecting to them, and how they are trying to connect to you. Are they trying to remote to you using the IP address you present to their systems?

Then, whois the DNS address of the remote website you are working with.

Once you get the DNS address, whitelist it in your VPN.

Absolutely right. And the fact that it’s a commercial VPN as opposed to a self-hosted one one say DO, GCP or AWS means he has limited capabilities to customize the config. For these kinds of “proxy roles”, I always recommend having a PC seating in the US. And then you can remotely access using Tailscale (or KVM if you cannot install software on the computer). Personally though, I don’t believe the employers reason for wanting remote access. There’s a feature called “Barge in” on VOIP telephone systems where admins with appropriate rights can listen in on a live call

Won’t the employer’s suspicions be raised when they see that he is connecting from an AWS or DO ip?

OP, the person that linked you up with the job, can they not setup a PC/Laptop in the US that you can remotely connect to?

The site in question does not care about the type of ip used to access there site, Op as being using vpn to access the site without having any issue. Probably a vpn with shared ip with some close port. With open vpn op will have a total control on the configuration.

If he as about 100usd to invest per month he should try a residential vps.

In this case if the issue is simply remote access, the VPS is not a good solution.

I thought as much. There are ways different ways they can discover and IP address is just one of them. I understand how those things work. The company doesn't have a robust system in place.
The major responsibility rests with your friend in the US.

I have just subscribed for a dedicated IP address in the US. I think my IP address keep changing and that raises some alarm. I hope this will solve the issue.

@OP, I will advise that you and your US contact get a dedicated computer set up at his location where you can remote access and use it to access your work resources. I’ve had a friend working a proxy role like you. VPN connection failed once and her Naija IP was exposed. System kicked her out immediately and notified IT. She was lucky her contact in the US had a good explanation. Na so dem for loose the job. Get a PC seating in US and save yourself any stress and risk. It’s even good that they aren’t providing a work computer. It means you can install whatever remote access app you want. TeamViewer, Anydesk, Tailscale, or even RustDesk

Or just rent a pc from AWS; no vpns required.
MacOs go for between 17 - 25 usd per day. That's a minimum of $340 for 20 working days
or as low as $200 p/m if you're renting long-term
and have peace of mind

This one is not limitation because of Naija. This remote job is restricted to US Remote. Na over wise dey worry us when we in Naija want to take these kinds of job. And to jump around the hoop you have to face all these “limitations”. Na one American sef na hin teach me. He has four US remote jobs. And he wanted to go to Malaysia and chill but not inform his employers. We do small research and bought and configured a KVM device that was installed in his home. Baba was able to remotely access all for workstations simultaneously without exposing his Malaysian IP.

Again I ask, would the use of an AWS IP not send bells ringing? In my experience, using IPs from a data Centre is a dead giveaway that you are most likely using a VPN.

many people physically present in the usa still use cloud vpns
in my situation i even had to receive calls via call-forwarding, employer -> proxy -> me
and trust me it was a whole lot of lengthy calls.

Verification has been done through zoom video call and US ID was requested for. So the identity has been established. Will you advise I continue using my dedicated US VPN ip?

Yes, brov. You will basically get flagged for switching IPs randomly and that will raise questions that needs to be answered.
Today you're in Tallahassee and tomorrow Miami, how possible is that? Unless you traveling and do you travel everyday?
Next tomorrow, Brooklyn and then in the evening, Queens.
Even PayPal might block you if you switch ips randomly (even within the same state). keep to your dedicated ip, and make sure it don't change at not anytime soon.
