Why Two Prophecies of Jesus Were Unfulfilled - 1.

"For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you, THERE BE SOME STANDING HERE, WHICH SHALL NOT TASTE OF DEATH, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."(Matthew 16:27-28).

Our Lord Jesus gave two prophecies that were unfulfilled with regards to the time frame they were supposed to happen. First of all, it's important to note here that our Lord Jesus didn't operate as God on earth even though he is fully God in human flesh. He functioned as man on earth. This was why he had to be anointed by the Holy Spirit to carry out his ministry.

So, as man, he didn't know all things. The prophecy he gave as contained in the opening text was with clarity of terms. He said that some of his audience standing with him will not taste death till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Jesus is yet to come as foretold but that generation are long dead. Now, the question is, why wasn't it fulfilled as spoken?

It's because of the present church age which was still a mystery at that time. The word mystery in this context means hidden secret. Before the death of Christ, salvation was only for the Jews because they were the only nation on earth in covenant relationship with God. At that time, the Gentiles had no covenant with God - Ephesians 2:12. So, salvation was not yet extended to the Gentiles. This is why Jesus instructed his disciples when he sent them out to preach; "... Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: BUT GO RATHER TO THE LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL." (Matthew 10:5-6).

On another occasion, he said to the Canaanite woman who requested him to heal her daughter; "... I am not sent BUT UNTO THE LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL."(Matthew 15:24). Salvation extended to the Gentiles after his death when the children of Israel rejected him as their Messiah. Thus, it is written; "He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." (John 1:11-12).

So, if not for the opportunity given to the Gentiles which constitutes the present day church, the prophecy would have been fulfilled within the specified time frame. Isreal as a nation is partially blind with respect to the salvation Jesus brought. The blindness will only be removed when God is through the Gentiles - Romans 11:25-26. We will look at the second prophecy tomorrow.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for the opportunity given to me to be a part of your kingdom. I am your son and an heir of your kingdom. Fill me with joy and peace as I look forward to the glorious return of our Lord Jesus in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Why Two Prophecies of Jesus Were Unfulfilled - 2.

"So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, THIS GENERATION SHALL NOT PASS, till all these things be fulfilled." (Matthew 24:33-34).

On an occasion when Jesus and his disciples left the temple, his disciples drew his attention of Jesus to the temple. And Jesus responded by predicting the destruction of the temple. This prompted the disciples to ask him three questions. The first was, when will the destruction take place. The second is the sign of his coming. The last is when will this present world (age) end.

Our Lord Jesus immediately began to foretell the events of the further in chronological order. Notable amongst the predictions are; wars and rumours of war, famine and earthquakes in divers places. Furthermore, he said false prophets and teachers will arise and they will be hated by all nations which will result in their persecutions.

In addition, he predicted that the abomination of desolation that Daniel spoke about will stand in the holy place. The abomination is the image of the anti Christ that the false Christ who they will accept as their Messiah will erect in the temple of God. And everyone on earth will be forced to worship that image.

The Jews because of their adherent to the Law of Moses which forbids the worship of any other gods will refuse to worship this image. This will result in their persecution. And they will pass through a great tribulation, a kind that has never happened in the history of the world.

At the end of the great tribulation period, Jesus will come back and the elect (144,000 Jews) will first be raptured. He will defeat the anti Christ and the false Christ who are revealed as the first and second beast respectively in Revelation, chapter 13.

The crux of the narration of this event was the prediction that the generation he was addressing with witness all these events. But that generation is gone and most of the events are yet to be fulfilled. This is because of the church age which was a mystery at that time. God, the Father hid this mystery even from his Son, Jesus at that time. This is why the prediction in Matthew, Chapter 24 didn't include the church. It's about the nation of Israel. The mystery was unveiled after the resurrection of Jesus.

But after the rapture of the church, the events will all be fulfilled. The anti Christ will come and reign in a revived and revised Roman Empire. It will be a confederalism of ten European Countries. And it will be the new world power. He will only reign for seven years. The last three and a half years will be the period of great tribulation. But at the end of the seven years, Jesus will come back, defeat them and establish his millennium reign on earth. The faithful saints will be given various responsibilities and leadership over nations. We will reign with Christ on earth for 1,000 years.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for the great plans you have for us as unveiled in your word. A plan that will be consummated at the appearance of our Lord Jesus. I pray that I will be counted worthy to reign with Christ when he comes to establish his kingdom on earth in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

How you arrive at this conclusion amazed me.

You should also back it with a bible passage showing Jesus prophesies were not fulfilled.

Don't you know Jesus speaks in parables? So what happened to he who drinks from the living water will thirst no more?
Re: Hard Truth - Why Two Prophecies Of Jesus Were Unfulfilled by mployer(m): 8:34am On Dec 09, 2022
1. The death Jesus meant was spiritual death not physical death. He meant there are people here that will receive eternal life. physical death by a Christian is refered to as "sleep" in the Bible.

2. The gentiles can only have to God through the new convenant, and that will only happen after the death of Christ. The gentiles can't receive Christ while Christ was life, so he wasn't sent to preach to them, it is the apostles work after his death.

Can you explain No 3?
You can say this because you are a Christian. What if it's an unbeliever reading the passage.

You also forgot when Jesus said he will pull down the temple and rebuild in 3 days. Was that prophesy fulfilled? Did Jesus meant the temple building?

1. I am afraid this assertion of yours is wrong! undecided

In Matthew 16, Jesus Christ spoke literally of death. He promised that His disciples would see (visions) Him coming in His glory before their deaths, visions aka Revelations given by the Spirit of Truth aka the Holy Spirit. undecided

2. I am afraid this is also wrong! undecided

As Jesus Christ specifically said that He was sent ONLY to the lost sheep of israel, the sheep who He was sent by the father to gather in from every tribe, every tongue and every nation on earth. So when Jesus Christ explained that He had come to call the sinners to repentance, and not the saints, he meant the sinners of Israel aka the lost sheep of israel who God had scattered all over the world. undecided

Technically they are gentiles too but more importantly they are of the blood of Jacob aka Israel as well. undecided

In Jeremiah 17, we read of the reasoning behind the mention of living waters. undecided
10 But I am the Lord, and I can look into a person’s heart. I can test a person’s mind and decide what each one should have. I can give each person the right payment for what they do.
11 Sometimes a bird will hatch an egg that it did not lay. Those who cheat to get money are like that bird. But when their lives are half finished, they will lose the money. At the end of their lives, it will be clear that they were fools.”
12 From the very beginning, our Temple has been a glorious throne for God. It is a very important place.
13 Lord, you are the hope of Israel. You are like a spring of living water. Those who stop following the Lord will have a very short life. - Jeremiah 17 vs 10 - 13
So, in Jeremiah we learn that those who follow the Lord will not have a short life as God promises all those who obey His Law and command Eternal Life, this in Deuteronomy 30 vs 15 - 20. undecided

In John 4, Jesus Christ is written to have made reference to the Living water while speaking to the Samaritan woman, as He explained that only He is able to give it to her. Living Water, as we learned from Jeremiah 17, refers to Eternal life. Following His teachings both in John 3 vs 1 - 21 and John 6 vs 25 - 47, as well as in John 14 vs 6, we learn that Jesus Christ is Eternal Life of God and has the power to grant Eternal life to all of those who believe in Him. undecided
10 Jesus answered, “You don’t know what God can give you. And you don’t know who I am, the one who asked you for a drink. If you knew, you would have asked me, and I would have given you living water.”
11 The woman said, “Sir, where will you get that living water? The well is very deep, and you have nothing to get water with.
12 Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob? He is the one who gave us this well. He drank from it himself, and his sons and all his animals drank from it too.”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.
14 But anyone who drinks the water I give will never be thirsty again. The water I give people will be like a spring flowing inside them. It will bring them eternal life.”
15 The woman said to Jesus, “Sir, give me this water. Then I will never be thirsty again and won’t have to come back here to get more water.” - John 4 vs 10 - 15
What this means is that not only is He the source of Living water but He is able to cause the same river to flow in all of those who believe in Him.
37 The last day of the festival came. It was the most important day. On that day Jesus stood up and said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty may come to me and drink.
38 If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.”
39 Jesus was talking about the Spirit. The Spirit had not yet been given to people, because Jesus had not yet been raised to glory. But later, those who believed in Jesus would receive the Spirit. - John 7 vs 37 - 39
And then in John 7, Jesus Christ goes even further to state that the same river of living water will flow out of those who belong to HIm - those in whom His Spirit of Truth abides inside of. undecided

Which passages do you want again. Didn't you read the devotional study before making your comments?

Jesus predicted so many things that would happen in future in Matthew 24. And the prediction included the fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy concerning the abomination of desolation that will stand in the holy place.

He also talked about the great tribulation period the children of Israel will go through.

He also mentioned the rapture of the elect at his second coming.

And he now told his audience that they will not taste death till all these things happen.

That generation is long dead and most of the events are yet to happen. And I opened the eyes of our understanding to explain why.

It was because of the this present church age that was still a mystery at that time. God the father hid it from Jesus.

It was unveiled after his resurrection.

It was like a surprised package. That God would include the Gentiles in his plan of salvation.

It took the Apostles of the early church by surprise also. Apostle Peter was surprised that God could fill the household of Cornelius with the Holy Spirit.

The failed prophecy revealed the humanity of Jesus. As the Son of man, he had limited knowledge at least concerning this issue at that time.

How could Jesus be talking about spiritual death when they were already dead spiritually?

So, are you saying that generation is still alive spiritually? Your comment doesn't hold water.

I don't agree. It is better to say that several messages can be preached from the same passage.

The Bible has just one interpretation for every passage. Unless people deliberately want to twist the Scriptures to conform to their pre conceived opinions.

Are you OK? The discourse contained in Matthew 24 is not a parable. Do you know the meaning of the word parable?

So, Jesus said he is coming back is a parable?

Why not humble yourself and learn.

I didn't open this thread to demean my Lord Jesus. Rather, I did it to unveil truths that the church is not aware of. Besides, it's meant to inspire you to celebrate our inclusion in the family of God.

Now, the question is, why wasn't it fulfilled as spoken?
Mat 16:27  For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.
Mat 16:28  Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming(erchomai) in His kingdom.

it seems that "erchomai" is better translated "appear" in verse 28

in verse 27 Jesus is speaking of comimg/appearing with His angels to repay every man for his deeds
in verse 28 Jesus is speaking of some standing there not tasting death until they see Jesus appear in His Kingdom

and six day's later some standing there did see Jesus appear in his Kingdom, with Moses and Elijah:

Mat 17:1  Six days later Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and *led them up on a high mountain by themselves.
Mat 17:2  And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
Mat 17:3  And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

This is very wrong! undecided

There is no mention of the Kingdom, nor of the angels , in any of the Gospel accounts of the transfiguration, so it logically follows that the transfiguration wasn't what Jesus Christ meant when He said some would see Him coming in the glory of His Kingdom before their deaths. undecided

Jesus appearing in His glorified body is appearing in His Kingdom, Jesus even said while in the flesh that His Kingdom has come upon you

1. That is a baseless assumption with no scriptural backing whatsoever. This since the same body that Jesus Christ live with, died in, and rose from the grave in, is the very same body that Jesus Christ then went up into Heaven with and will eventually return in. undecided

2. Again, none of the Gospel accounts of the transfiguration validates the claim you made. Jesus Christ's return in the glory of His Kingdom is instead described in Matthew 25 vs 31 - 33 and that account, given by Jesus Christ, is in no way similar to what is described of the transfiguration. undecided

Jesus Christ isn't the one who is wrong here. You are! See it below for yourself. undecided

a. Account of the transfiguration in the Gospel according to Matthew
1. Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John the brother of James and went up on a high mountain. They were all alone there.
2 While these followers watched him, Jesus was changed. His face became bright like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.
3 Then two men were there, talking with him. They were Moses and Elijah.
4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you want, I will put three tents here—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” - Matthew 17 vs 1 - 4
b. Account of the transfiguration in the Gospel according to Mark
2 Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John and went up on a high mountain. They were all alone there. While these followers watched him, Jesus was changed.
3 His clothes became shining white—whiter than anyone on earth could make them.
4 Then two men were there talking with Jesus. They were Elijah and Moses. - Mark 9 vs 2 - 4
c. Account of the transfiguration found in the Gospel according to Luke
28 About eight days after Jesus said these things, he took Peter, John, and James and went up on a mountain to pray.
29 While Jesus was praying, his face began to change. His clothes became shining white.
30 Then two men were there, talking with him. They were Moses and Elijah.
31 They also looked bright and glorious. They were talking with Jesus about his death that would happen in Jerusalem. - Luke 9 vs 28 - 31
Notice that none of the above accounts makes mention of Jesus Christ coming in the glory of His Kingdom, nor angels surrounding Him, etc. undecided

Now compare all of the above with Jesus Christ's own description of the events to take place when He comes back in the glory of the Kingdom of God.
31 “The Son of Man will come again with divine greatness, and all his angels will come with him. He will sit as king on his great and glorious throne.
32 All the people of the world will be gathered before him. Then he will separate everyone into two groups. It will be like a shepherd separating his sheep from his goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. - Matthew 25 vs 31 - 33
Note the vast difference between this image here and that painted in all 3 accounts of the transfiguration. undecided

two facts:

2. Jesus did appear in His Kingdom before some standing there, just like He said junkie:

Amen.

Further Study: Daniel 9:27, Revelation 13:1-18; 19:11-21.
the two scriptures have already been fulfilled.

Matthew 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled

So, they have all been fulfilled in that generation.

Jesus Christ isn't the one who is wrong here. You are! See it below for yourself. undecided

a. Account of the transfiguration in the Gospel according to Matthew
b. Account of the transfiguration in the Gospel according to Mark

c. Account of the transfiguration found in the Gospel according to Luke
Notice that none of the above accounts makes mention of Jesus Christ coming in the glory of His Kingdom, nor angels surrounding Him, etc. undecided

Now compare all of the above with Jesus Christ's own description of the events to take place when He comes back in the glory of the Kingdom of God.
Note the vast difference between this image here and that painted in all 3 accounts of the transfiguration. undecided
neither the verses you posted or your continued confusion show that
what Jesus said is unfilled and that Jesus is wrong, oh Christ denier:

Mat 10:33  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

I don't agree. It is better to say that several messages can be preached from the same passage.

The Bible has just one interpretation for every passage. Unless people deliberately want to twist the Scriptures to conform to their pre conceived opinions.
Of course many Christians won't agree! But that's the truth!

Same reason there exist Unitarian and Trinitarian Christians!

66 books and 73 books Bible!

Some believe Jesus is God the father and some don't!

Your assertion does not make a lick of sense considering I clearly explained that Jesus Christ is not wrong nor did He lie. undecided
oh duh, i keep saying Jesus is not wrong in what He said and you keep arguing,
so you obviously believe He is wrong
Re: Hard Truth - Why Two Prophecies Of Jesus Were Unfulfilled by MaxInDHouse(m):
There is no single prophecy of Jesus that wasn't fulfilled but the problem with faithless people is the understanding to grasp when it is been fulfilled!

The expression
"see the son of man Coming in his Kingdom" means some people will see that Jesus is the Messiah with their own eyes not only understanding based on scriptures.

When Jesus asked his disciples what people thought about him they told him how some thought he is John the baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah and so on {Matthew 16:13-14} then he directed the question to them and Peter said Jesus is the Messiah (Christ) {Matthew 16:16} note what Jesus said:
“Happy you are, Simon son of Joʹnah, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but my Father in the heavens did" Matthew 16:17 meaning neither the scriptures nor Jesus himself told them this pointblank but they discern through what they are seeing and hearing from Jesus. So when Jesus later said some will see him coming in his Kingdom it simply means they will see the reality that Jesus is the promised Messiah with their own eyes and this occurred when he was transfigured, they saw him speaking with Moses and Elijah {Matthew 17:3} Moses and Elijah are dead awaiting a resurrection in their graves so for them to see Jesus speaking with these dead men means the prophecy about the dead coming to life again in the future has been sealed and this man standing with them is the one that will fulfill it in the future by calling them! John 5:28-29
No wonder God immediately spoke from heaven to confirm what they saw:

“This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved. Listen to him.” Matthew 17:5

So if anyone told you that Jesus' prophecy is not fulfilled then know that such a person is either lacking wisdom or a ridiculer! 2Peter 3:3-4

OP.. next time you are writing something you are not sure of, please consult Google first....

Thanks to technology, things are easy nowadays...When I read about your post about Matthew 16:27-28, I was shocked at your submission...

I was forced to research It by typing the meaning of Matthew 16:28.. just a click of a button...I was amazed at what many religious scholars and some others said about that passage... their interpretations were different...

But what they all have in common is... It's a parable and not just physical death as u supposed it to be....
