Is lying really a bad thing?
What does it mean to tell a lie?
To intentionally tell a false statement, to deceive, to attempt to bend reality for your benefit whether to gain something or to escape difficulty. With a definition like this why isn't it okay to tell a lie all the time or at least most of the time and avoid every discomfort or even severe punishment that might come with telling the truth? The goal when you lie is to benefit from or avoid something, so there's an underlying belief that you know what's best for you, really? you're 100% sure you know what's best for you and that you are acting in your best interest, and no, not for you presently alone but for you 2 years or 5 years from now, Wouldn't we agree that living with your future self's best interest in mind is a reasonable way to live? that's the secret behind sacrifice. No one sensible trusts a known liar yes even if that liar is yourself, we as humans don't know why we do most of the things we do, that's a reason for our regret sometimes, you act out of impulse and pause and try to figure out why you acted that way, there's reasons not to trust yourself already (and hopefully you don't naively believe you are inherently good because you are not!) adding lies to it doesn't seem to help in anyway. have you ever wondered why we intentionally engage in activities that we know will inevitably destroy us? maybe it is because of our lack of self control but we can't say knowing who we are(our imperfections and a natural desire to do evil ) has nothing to do with it, maybe while we engage in those destructive acts we subconciously believe we deserve it, maybe when we mess with truthful speech that a society that works, a healthy relationship whether romantic, family or friendships thrives and
depends on, we convince ourselves that we deserve the avoidable pain unhealthy and careless living will bring. It will be fraudulent to not acknowledge dire situations where a lie might save your life but it would be dishonest to say only in such situations are majority of lies told. Again is lying really a bad thing and why do you think so? Which situations have you lied, gotten away with it and then later regretted lying? or maybe you don't regret it. comment down below.

With this Logic you can make the vilest things seem reasonable.
Can you give the scripture from the bible where God told Abraham to lie, i've seen the instances where he lied about his wife being his sister and even God was going to punish the victims of Abraham's lies, again not everything is simple to understand, also who's to say Abraham didn't go through some punishment later in his life as a result of those lies he told.
