Keshi proved himself with Togo and Mali before he got the job. I do not see why Amuneke should be given the job now. AndSunGorilla: |

Don't forget Keshi failed with the Naija U20s in 2001 before he went on to Togo and Mali. Amunike proved himself with Nigeria's U17s and with Tanzania. He is now in Zambia making a difference with Zanaco. The key ingredient here is Amunike is tactically astute. He is also one whose playing philosophy draws similarities with Walid Regragui. They both favor swift vertical attacking transition plays. And both make their midfield anchorman part of the top keys to their game. For Walid, it is a Ball-playing CDM, for Amunike, he prefers a DLP or Ball-playing CDM. And we can execute such with the pool of talents we have. Also, the core of the Super Eagles already know Amunike well and have worked with him closely from the age grade teams. The likes of Iheanacho, Ndidi, Osimhen, Chukwueze, Ejuke, Uzoho, Awaziem etc. He knows the lads to the depths of their abilities. This is a coach that molded the beast Osimhen is today. Osimhen never fails to credit Amunike as the man who laid the foundations of his development into the beast striker he is. The mentality Osimhen has in that role came via Amunike's mentoring and coaching. Every other thing fell into place as he met other top coaches at Wolfsburg, Felice Mazzu at Charleroi, Galtier at Lille, Gattuso at Naples and now Spalletti. Marjoribanks: |

AndSunGorilla:our NPFL teams have very good coaches with definite style of play, we can give them a chance to prove themselves. We need to start encouraging our recently retired players to go into coaching, none of them seem interested in coaching |

Marjoribanks:Yes you right, we can also say that Amuneke helped Tanzania to make the ANC since 1980!!! And immediately after his sack, they didn't make the last one. Keshi succeeded in Togo but failed in Mali too. And Keshi failed as our U20 coach at some point as well. |

jihday:My thinking may be flawed but I feel a full local coach without any foreign exposure may be intimidated by the players. Because at least our retired players can point to their careers and a couple of them made some money too in their hey days, but a local coach who may never have earned N2m a month in his life may just feel intimidated. The players could even claim that the coach is unaware of modern tactics etc and never exposed to world class training methods. |

BascoVanVeli:Got you, truth is Ladan Bosso doesn't like him for whatever reason. Also he shunned him the first time and truth be told, his team played well on their way to winning the WAFU U21 which kind of would even make Bosso more uninterested. Like someone here has already indicated, cream rises to the the top, that lad is one to watch out for in the future. Btw where is that guy that used to be in Enyimba that Rohr invited? How is he faring in North Africa? |

jihday:You're right. The players also have to respect their coach and national team to be able to successfully carry out his tactics. Imagine having players like Neymar who will be strolling and walking back to defense or will not even help the defense at all.. I haven't seen 1 Moroccan player walking back to the midfield and defense even when they're tired they either jog back quickly or run back to help the defense and that's down to the players attitude.. My point is no Moroccan player feels too big or have too much ego to do basic football things.. |

TheSuperNerd:seems Spain just went through this route too, they are set to announce De La Fuente their former U-19 U-21 and U-23 coach who has never coached a proper senior team but according to them he has worked with most of the players during their years in the various youth teams. |

Blueelf:Do you remember when Glen Hoddle was in consideration for the Eagle's job, a coach and Manager with world class pedigree. This is a guy of unquestionable integrity without blemish and a very good management and player record. He is not hungry he has substantial Wealth and is a born again Christian. He accepted the position but declined when they asked him to share his salary with NFF officials, he quite rightly was abhorrent and refused in no uncertain terms. Nigeria can attract the best Managers in the world but our reputation precedes us. And there are many here that will defend the NFF and say they are not corrupt. |

Danielnino00:You justify the unjustifiable and are blinded to the obvious by your favouritism and double standard. Eguavon did not call up Nwakali he was foisted upon the team by the powers that be. Shehu was not oustanding there were and still are far better players. Collins selection over Aina was not based on football ⚽ performance and or ability. Aina had the best statistics over all our defenders in that AFCON although he did not get the highest amount of game time. Aina was and is still way better than Collins irrespective of the fact that he not naturally left footed. Aina is currently in the January transfer window wanted by a plethora of EPL clubs. Jamilu Collins is now in Cardiff but is struggling to get a game even get in the bench . Meanwhile Seyi Ojo who is haven't mentioned for over 4 seasons is a regular at Cardiff and not good enough for the SE. |

AndSunGorilla:Although you make this in bold as a an assumption in the negative. I see it as a statement of fact, some of our players are getting coached by the best Managers in the world, with the best facilities and a comprehensive support network of multiple professionals. For most of our local coaches that's like a a whole world away from where they are . So it's more or less fact that our local coaches will not know as much as as some of the players they are trying to coach. Blind man leading those with eyes comes to mind. I know of two Nigerian international who were willing to pay and foot the bill for a defensive coach to help the SE. But were flatly rejected by the NFF , to them the NFF coaches were inept. This is not hearsay but first hand. |

codemaniacs: To quote you verbatim "you have come again with your nonsense talks" unlike you and other foreign born Nigerians that's always badmouthing and denigrating anything Nigeria... they do not badmouth and denigrate their country... First of all your diction is fractious, rancourous , and is anchored ⚓ on ignorant negative bias. That is not denigration but matter of fact, you have blanketed millions of Nigerians born outside the UK as HATERS of Nigeria. Thats downright stupid. Because the vast majority of Nigeria's born and or brought up outside Nigeria. Refuse to accept the status quo of corruption, ineptitude, favouritism, mediocrity you find that denigration You are the Nigerian problem , you have low expectations and even lower standards of probity and because we reject that retrogressive approach we have DENIGRATED the nation. No apologies you need redemption and emancipation. |

They aren't set to announce Luis De La Fuente, they have ALREADY ANNOUNCED HIM. Same day Luis Enrique stepped down. And yes, that is the idea behind the appointment. Moving in a new direction but with another local based coach who knows the players and have watched their evolution across various age grade levels. He is also astute in the way Spanish sides play. jihday: |
