How Much Do Doctors Earn In Nigeria? by Crystalom5(op): 5:25pm On Dec 10, 2022
Anyone have an idea of the salaries of doctors in Nigeria?

Or if you are a doctor in the house you can give us an answer.

Witch doctors receive whatever you give them.

But they would often ask for one white chicken, tubers of yam and Maggi cubes.

Don't ask me what the Maggi cubes are for.

After seven years in school?
Do you want them to be unmotivated and forget Gauze pad in you after surgery?

All the doctors I know are well off and doing well. Private and public sector.

Be good at your craft and earn 2m per surgical procedure. And you can have 5 in a week.
Doctors make a kill for a living.

Lol stop saying what you don't know. Firstly, whatever income from the procedure will be distributed across your team. Even the anaesthesia doctor will have an equal cut.. . Also, what kind of complicated surgery of 2m do you want to be doing 5 times weekly with private practice? You can't earn that much in a government hospital and apart from the big name private hospitals, the remaining privates na mainly appendix removal and illegal abortion of like 30-50k dem dey do lol.

An average salary for doctors in government hospitals is between 120 and 200k. Senior regs in FMCs and teaching hospitals is between 220 and 270k. Consultants is 400k upwards ( although there are young consultants but most times you for don old before you reach that stage) Doctors don't earn much in nigeria . Many of them are struggling with their toyota big daddy and honda baby boy dem dey use do yanga up and down. Con dey toast and sweet mouth small small girls for streets with "I'm a medical doctor " talks. and Gone are the days where every child's dream is to be a doctor and lawyer. Both professions don too cast moat especially that law.. Those one na charge and bail and property agents full streets.

The best way to silence people is by providing authentic proof. Although it is difficult to get the salary estimates of workers in Nigeria. However, I do think doctors earn decently in Nigeria whether private or public.

Let's do a breakdown.
Rent =
Electricity =
Food =
Transportation/ fuel =
Children's School fees =
Cooking gas =
NB: we will set 20% - 30% of the total expenses aside as miscellaneous. That would also include healthcare, etc. I believe this will help us arrive at a concrete figure instead of just assuming.

It is definitely not that expensive. A major brain surgery costs about a million naira in a government hospital. About 3million naira in a good private hospital.

Orthopaedic surgery costs an average of 500k.

The reason why it's so much more expensive in the U.S is because most of the cost goes to insurance. Surgeons bear a huge burden in liability that leaves no room for mistakes whatsoever and so no cutting of corners.

Therefore they carry out extensive tests to be very sure before making any move. I agree with you completely.

name one surgery that will net the hospital enough that the surgeon will earn 2ml

Who allege must prove. The burden of proof is on you

And even when they don't make mistakes they are still subject to regular frivolous lawsuits, "class-actions" and such. Most of that money(by the way, there is no surgery in the U.S.A that will cost you less than $5k) is used to pay insurers for these lawsuits that they will almost invariably have to deal with at some point in their careers.

In essence, you pay a doctor/surgeon and the "omo oniles" (a lawyer and an insurer) to get a surgery done. It's quite funny when you think of it that way. grin grin grin

Part of the reason why the cost of living is so high in the U.S. Over-priced if you ask me. A lot of them now travel out of the country for medical services because of this.

that's one thing I continue to find amusing about Americans.

They make the country unbearable for themselves and still complain.

Indeed. Everything has some sort of liability cost attached to it. I think that the people generally don't realize or care about the cost of their conveniences. They want perfection but they are not ready to pay.
