The only problem I have with doctors is that they don't think outside the box. Its always about their profession, no side hustling. Everybody needs multiple stream of income to achieve much.

Lol stop saying what you don't know. Firstly, whatever income from the procedure will be distributed across your team. Even the anaesthesia doctor will have an equal cut.. . Also, what kind of complicated surgery of 2m do you want to be doing 5 times weekly with private practice? You can't earn that much in a government hospital and apart from the big name private hospitals, the remaining privates na mainly appendix removal and illegal abortion of like 30-50k dem dey do lol.

An average salary for doctors in government hospitals is between 120 and 200k. Senior regs in FMCs and teaching hospitals is between 220 and 270k. Consultants is 400k upwards ( although there are young consultants but most times you for don old before you reach that stage) Doctors don't earn much in nigeria . Many of them are struggling with their toyota big daddy and honda baby boy dem dey use do yanga up and down. Con dey toast and sweet mouth small small girls for streets with "I'm a medical doctor " talks. and Gone are the days where every child's dream is to be a doctor and lawyer. Both professions don too cast moat especially that law.. Those one na charge and bail and property agents full streets.
Bros, it is not true.
The doctors, thought consultants I am seeing now in a gov hospital are making outstanding money. Drive machines etc.
Cost 50k consultation fees each. Just seeing 5 new people a day is 250k, seeing 5 return customers at 20-30k is 150k.
If you don't have money saved in this country for emergencies, you are doomed if heavy health issues hits you.

Kogi State,
Medical Officer (MO),250k
Even after 10years its still 250k, reason is that you will get promoted to Senior Medical Officer(SMO) and Principal medical officer(PMO) not backed by pay. Only promotion letter with no financial backup

He is saying, the hospital wouldn't hand over the surgery money to someone because he or she did the operation.

Most surgery in Nigeria is not above 300k naira.

Yeah, this sounds more like it. I don't know about general hospitals as it depends on the state government, but only house officers will be in the neighborhood of the 220k they are mentioning.

Be good at your craft and earn 2m per surgical procedure. And you can have 5 in a week.
Doctors make a kill for a living.

Hahaha. What type of surgery costs 2m? Worse so, the type that you do 5 times a week.

Note that, the more peculiar the surgery is, the rarer it becomes.

In a Tier 1 Federal Teaching Hospital, Super Major surgeries cost between 200k to 300k. Sonindont know where you got your figure from

Not true. There are minor, intermediate, major and super major surgeries. Minors dont cost up to 100k, intermediate around 100k. Majors below 200k.

I'm speaking of federal teaching hospitals

You get oil for head. I just dey laugh as I dey see amount. I went to my company hospital and a doctor lamented to me how badly they earn. My cousin and her hubby graduated from uniben as medical doctors. One was earning 80k and the other 70k in a private hospital here before they moved to the US where they are having a better life now. It's even government that pays better. Except with the surge of doctors Exodus maybe the pay will appreciate in private hospitals

If you're talking about how much private hospitals charge for advanced surgical procedures, then yes. But they'll pay nurse or doctor anaesthetics, buy new surgical tools, anaesthesia can be very expensive, post surgical care, blood, drugs.

Your take home seems pretty decent for monthly take home but when I compare what you earn to what managers earn in my place of work then I must say that you are underpaid. Managers where I work earn over 1 million after deductions on monthly basis. Life no balance.

How much do you think all those big hospitals on lagos island charge for complex surgeries ??
A private facility in Owerri, one of the best in Nigeria had 3 open heart surgeries 2 weeks ago and each patient paid 10 million naira.
Imagine if it was Lagos Island or Abuja .

While I agree that you don't make such all the time , but you do 1 of those cases at least once in a week .
Neuro and Cardiothoracic cases actually cost a lot.

I remember seeing a thread on nairaland about a man whose wife entered one chance in Lagos. She landed in a private hospital on the island. The man claimed to spend almost 600k.
When I saw the pictures of his injured wife , I doubted his story and felt the 600k was a lie judging from the injuries sustained.
Not until I got a job on the island as a medical officer grin grin
Omo , I weak .

There was this boy we managed for a febrile illness.
He spent 4 to 5 days on admission and their bill was almost a million naira .
Treating that child in Ibadan where I worked earlier would not cost more than 50k .

So , it is very very very possible for a surgeon ( especially orthopaedic/Neuro/ Cardiothoracic surgeons )to make more than 2million on a case .

Lol, because when you are working from 8 am- 5 pm, and then you are on call two or sometimes 3 times a week, no time for side hustle...especially if you have a family.

Some of us have 'side hustle' per se...we work in this hospital, and then jump to another hospital for nite shift.

Personally speaking, I won't mind doing some agric stuff...raise chickens...as side hustle. But I know that those things need the kind of supervision that I cannot offer right now....

After seven years in school?
Do you want them to be unmotivated and forget Gauze pad in you after surgery?

All the doctors I know are well off and doing well. Private and public sector.

If they forget gauze or commit malpractice because of pay, then they get their asses sued and license suspended... Money or pay doesn't prevent malpractice

Aneurysm Brain
Pneumectomy lung
Open heart self-explanatory
Disc replacement

I witnessed 3 of these. None cost less than 4m.

Go check and verify how much any hospital with ICU costs.
Folks die from lack of equipment more often than lack of expertise.

Our doctors are gifted. They are knowledgeable. But, the but is the but. Nigeria happens to them and their patients. So, people die needlessly.

If a doctor warns you to get a hospital equipped with ICU before surgery, please, help yourself and find the purse to fund it.
2m will never cover the cost of such procedure. Forget all the abuses.
If you are in a government hospital, God help you that Nigeriax9 does not happen. If they need to evacuate you to a private hospital with ICU, bobo, start speaking in tongues.

ICU at a grade 1 Federal Teaching Hospital in the North Central costs 150k. Disc replacement is 200k. I don't know where you guys are getting these figures.from

There are hospitals with specialised theatres already. You don't need to buy anything.
If at all you'd need to buy anything, patient would pay separately for that .

Government hospitals in the North are generally cheaper than the south.
In UCH for example , ICU deposit is 250k and you pay 20k or thereabout daily.
Imagine a patient who just had a brain surgery and might require an extensive ICU care .
And that's a government hospital oo

CS sef doesn't cost 150k in UCH , how much more disc replacement grin grin
