Ahead of the forthcoming presidential election, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Osita Okechukwu, has said his party is only worried about Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate and not about Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Okechukwu also said Bola Tinubu, APC’s presidential candidate, has come a long way and knows the country very well to win the 2023 presidential election, among other candidates.

The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria disclosed this on Monday morning while featuring on the Arise Television Morning Show programme.

He said Atiku had lost his base and that he could not harvest Buhari’s 12 million votes.

“As per Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, what nobody can deny is that he knows the onion. He knows the gravitas, he knows the country, and he has come a long way. And we are not bothered about PDP; for instance, Atiku has lost his base.

"We are more bothered about Peter Obi and others. Kwankwaso, we know he is qualified and highly capable, but he is riding against the zoning convention. And so, if you tell us about Peter Obi, then we can say, ok, that is where we are worried, but not about Atiku, who has lost his base.

“Atiku cannot win; I challenge those who are saying so. He cannot harvest Buhari’s 12 million votes; he cannot. He does not have Buhari’s vote bank,” he said.

I have said this countless times here that the 12million votes Atiku got in 2019 was because of Obi, now that Obi is in the race, Atiku's chances has died!!! Atiku chances of becoming president was in 2019 but he missed.

Now 12m voters will vote for peter Obi come 2023, plus the new voters. APC and PDP stand no chance in this election. Obi is the man to beat, he is a force to reckon with. Underate him at your own peril

He is right that Peter Obi is a big worry to the APC. But he wrong to write off Atiku. This contest is between Peter Obi and Atiku. Tinubu is going to lose and this will be a shocker to everyone.

Bloc votes on political balance - Obi wins
Bloc votes on populace acceptability - Obi wins
Bloc votes on Age groups - Obi wins

I agree with him. Atiku does not really have any base again. The fact his party supporters are being attacked in NE and NW shows he isn't massively popular.

Believe me, you can't attack supporters of any popular political party in an area they enjoy massive support. It's like saying Obi-dients being attacked in Edo, Anambra or any state in SE/SS or Tinubu supporters being attacked in Lagos. It's just not possible.

So if Atiku supporters are not in control of NW and NE then he has lost already. PDP has become as unpopular as APC in SE/SS, so where else can Atiku get his votes?

I think it will be very foolish to dismiss Atiku Abubakar just like that. What if the election goes to run off and it's head to head between him and Asiwaju? Obi would have been out of the race, Igbo and South South will vote for Hausa as they have been doing since 1959, Atiku will easily win. My payer is that, the election should be decided at the first ballot, and if there will be a run off, it should be Asiwaju vs Obi, the match will be like Eyimba vs Realmadrid. grin
