10 accounting basics to know �

1. The accounting equation:
Assets = Liabilities + Owners' Equity.

2. The balance sheet:
It’s a financial statement that shows a company's assets, liabilities, and owners' equity at a specific point in time.

3. The income statement:
It’s the second type of financial statements.
It shows a company's revenues, expenses, and net income over a period of time (such as a year or a quarter).

4. The statement of cash flows:
This is the 3rd financial statement.
It shows how a company's cash has changed over a period of time, including cash inflows (such as revenues) and outflows (such as expenses).

5. Debits and credits:
They are the foundation of double-entry accounting, which is the practice of recording transactions in two accounts in order to maintain the integrity of the accounting equation.

6. The chart of accounts:
It’s a list of all the accounts used by a company in its general ledger, with each account being assigned a unique number for identification purposes.

7. The general ledger:
The GL is a record of all a company's financial transactions, with each transaction being recorded in the appropriate account.

8. The accrual basis of accounting:
It’s the practice of recognizing revenues and expenses when they are earned or incurred, rather than when they are paid or received.

9. The matching principle:
It’s the practice of matching revenues and expenses in the same accounting period, in order to accurately reflect a company's financial performance during that period.

10. The principles of conservatism and materiality:
It means being conservative in estimating the value of assets and liabilities, and of only recording transactions that are material (significant) enough to affect a company's financial statements.

'I attended a Party recently, with a gathering of about 300 people and sat in the front row.

A Lady started distributing snacks from the back row and unfortunately, it didn't get to us sitting in the front row.

Another Lady started handing out Drinks, from the front row. But, by then, I had already moved to the Back row. and, so, the drink didn't get to me.

I was irritated and stood up to leave.

But, then, I saw three ladies each with A Big Bowl of vegetable Manchurian dry.

This time, I tried to be Wise by sitting in the Middle row.

One of the Ladies started the sharing from the Front, and the second Lady started distributing from the back.

When they got to the middle row where I was seated, it got over again!

Feeling frustrated, I bent my head, putting my Face in My Hands.
But, then, the third Lady tapped me and held out her Bowl.

I stretched out my hand and guess what was in the Bowl?
Toothpicks!!!

Moral: Don’t try to Position yourself in Life. If you are doing your best, then, good things will come to you automatically sooner or later.

Otherwise, you will wrongfully position yourself for Toothpicks Only!!!!

Despair and tiredness written on my face.

Work can be so discouraging sometimes and not in this festive session with such frenzy to close the year on a positive note.

After some c-suite interviews and after i had received an information that one of the clients we just kickstarted a relationship with had terminated the appointment of a recently resumed MD (Nov14th ).

Within 2 weeks, a query was issued and then within the the 3rd week, a termination notice by the company’s lawyer.

So disappointed in the process. A company supposedly with foreign investors and international collaboration for women empowerment.

What could have gone wrong?
A candidate resigned from her well paying job(she wasn’t asked to leave) but wanted career growth and opportunity to pursue her passion.

She joined a new company with so much passion and energy, which was quite infectious as you hear from her voice and see on her gaiety.

So much promises and hope for the future. Why the dash of dream?

What changed the dynamics?

To owners/ founders/MDs, please be calming down. Rome wasn’t built in a day fa.

�Give people opportunity to grow into their roles.

�Do give people opportunity to adapt to your work culture.

�Give people chances to understand your work and performance expectations of them.

�Positively Onboard new employees.

�Have internal mechanism in place that employees would feel comfortable with.

�If a consulting firm is involved in the process, reach out on time so issues can be amicably resolved.

To many candidates that have experienced a short-change in your expectation, how did you handle this?

From earning salaries to a sudden loss of salary. How do people cope? Please share your coping mechanism so others can learn.

I love the job i do but moment like this, can be distressing.
