I have seen many people dismiss Peter Obi's huge support as just online noise and I want to correct an impression with facts and reasonable inferences. Hopefully after reading this, you will become more enlightened and understand the role the internet will play in the 2023 election. In previous elections, especially elections conducted prior to 2011, I get it, the internet probably didn't play much role, what we had for communication was mostly emails and news websites, and smartphone penetration hadn't become as widespread as it is today, but times have changed! Here are some numbers (Facts) you should pay attention to (rounded up/down for simplicity) Out of an estimated 211 million people living in Nigeria, there are about 96 million registered voters, that is, about 45% of the population. Guess what? There are also about 90 million internet users in Nigeria, and 90 million of these internet users are also WhatsApp users. Up to 53 million Nigerians use social media (Facebook, Twitter etc), 20 million of them being daily active users. Why Do All These Numbers Matter? Because social media and internet users are influencing offline Nigerians. Back in the days before the internet, activism was organized on the streets, marketplaces, using word of mouth, groups and associations, now it's almost entirely organized online. The #EndSars protests were organized mostly on Twitter and WhatsApp, and political rallies today are being broadcast and discussed using these social platforms. Today, people use WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, nairaland etc to broadcast and discuss political rallies while they're going on live. Drones are being deployed to take aerial footage, and challenge controlled narrative. Back to my point of internet users influencing offline people, the discussions in the marketplaces, TV, and radio today are now mostly discussions generated from social media. For instance, if a candidate makes a gaffe or is involved in some controversy, it is circulated all over the internet, and it makes the news which offline people are listening to and watching. Finally, there is another number that should interest you if you're a Peter Obi supporter. The top 10 states with the highest internet subscribers according to a 2021 report by the NBS (link below) were Lagos, Kano, Oyo, Abuja, Kaduna, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Niger. Peter Obi has consistently won multiple opinion polls online conducted by various media organizations and influencers. Is this indicative of what we should expect at the election? Remember, this is 2022, not 2007 or 2011. We don't know the data yet, but with Peter Obi consistently winning online and random street polls, Imagine if 50% of registered voters were also social media users. In summary, the data provided and the interpretations indicate that online political behavior is influencing offline discussions and actions, and Peter Obi's online support should be taken very seriously. Op, you have said it all It's funny how the same people who applauded the role social media played in bringing the current APC government on board in 2015, now turning around to dismissed it's important just because it is no longer in their favour. The APC are in for a shocker |

![]() Bitter Obi has lesser followers on Social Media than Atiku and Tinubu if you pull all figures together How is his 2million social media followers going to influence 96 million voters You talk about ENDSars like it's a good thing, but some people lost businesses, and destroyed public property got repaired by honest hard-working people while Yahoo boys did nothing Can Rinu win votes in Ogun or Lagos?! Can Firstladyship win votes in Abuja Can Psquare win votes in Anambra . |

socialmediaman:It is a fact. Just take a trip to the market places. People that really feel the pangs of APC induced suffering will tell you it's Obi or nothing. Those people are not online, they don't even know what twitter is or what Nairaland is all about. All they know is they have suffered enough. |

Moh247:Mohammed, can you just support your candidate without attacking anyone in particular? Why are you Nigerians like this? Y'all are promoting one of three popular useless candidates and still killing yourselves over which useless one dominates the other useless ones. Can you not support whoever you wish and sell the person rather than following other known fools who want to die for these stupid politicians? 24/7, you dey here dey defend Tinubu with your kidney. You dey here dey defend APC. And you know it down deep in you that you are wicked supporting a failed party. Not just a failed party...one who is still ruling and failing in per second billing. Anywhere you see opposition, you full chest come out. Same politicians who weaponize poverty in the North! And Nigeria at large! Same politicians who don't care if you live or die. Same politicians who made a lockdown and hid palliatives. Same govt who are against a peaceful protest of brutality. We complain politicians are corrupt...you make up their branches. I'll keep louding it..Obi, Tinubu and Atiku are all politicians. They are all the same; they are well-known failures. They all lie. They all deceive. Whatever happens after 2023 election won't affect them. It will affect the electorates. Politics is self-interest. So why should I defend sb campaigning for his benefit and legacy and who doesn't care about me unless after four years during election? Mohammed, how old is your stupidity? Can you allow any of these politicians you can kill for manage any of your personal businesses? Why the country? Oh, that's not your business. Why do you keep wanting to drink poison because it will be served in your tribal cup? Only urgent election ₦2k can make sb this furious. |

socialmediaman:Which of the non biased polls hasn't he won?! Why should anyone use up data watching Tinubu for 8 mins if they had no interest in him? Well I speak for myself I can't waste my time watching Obi as I find him shallow ... I did my thorough research on him, quite Frankly Kwankwaso and Atiku ranked better than the guy . |

Lagos numbers are heavily leaning towards Peter Obi’s favor. It’s incomprehensible but Peter Obi will likely defeat Tinubu in Lagos at the presidential election |

Moh247:Cyberbulling? You Tinubu and Obi supporters can be toxic sometimes. You cyberbully on freewheel but scream when you notice an iota of reprimand. Your next exit is calling me an Atiku supporter. Why on earth should I support any rubbish! Report? Lol. Wear a Santa Claus costume, you'll make a better laugh. In fact, enjoy your support base. It's none of my business anyways. Whoever una choose will not affect me. |
