The simple point is that there is no distraction anywhere. This particular edition has been announced even before this year's edition. A significant percentage of the viewership of the program is outside Nigeria. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Can you explain in four sentences how BBN will distract anybody from participating in the election? Most people are just jumping on the conspiracy theory bandwagon rather than doing critical thinking.

Nigeria's election process requires you to have a PVC before voting. In order to get the PVC, you undergo a registration process. Anyone who has taken the pains to go through this process will vote if they want to vote. It wouldn't matter what's going on on in TV.

Tertiary institutions being in session during the elections is a more critical factor for the election than BBNaija.

Think for yourself. Don't just say shibboleths that you hear around you. Big Brother show has zero effect on political participation.

But the minute I saw the news yesterday that it will air on the 15 of January, barely 3 months after the last one had just ended, I knew that something was up. Normally it should take a year to reboot the show, but this one is starting right after the last one ended, and during a pivotal general election... I mean , if it smells like fish ... Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but you gotta admit that it's really suspicious airing the show while the country is trying to transition into a new government. It's way too much of a beautiful coincidence.

the one that just ended was in 2022. And the one about starting is in 2023.
It's not yearly though, it's about the producers decision. There was a time it didn't holdfor about 5 years.

Big brother is a television program. It doesn't stop u from living your life. It is just one channel out of the the hundreds of channels on dstv.
Big brother is very addictive, but so are other programs. My wife can watch africamagic from morning till night and forget to give me breakfast, lunch and dinner. Football is also so addictive, so is telemundo, so is news. If there's breaking news, I can watch CNN from morning till night without even sipping water. So is religion and religious stations on dstv.
So u people should not make it look like big brother is the worst crime in Nigeria. It's a TV program. During Big brother, dont people go to work, to market and other places of endeavour? Don't people hang out, go to parties, go to school and live their normal lives?

This particular big brother is even holding in South Africa. Between Nigerians and South Africans. South Africa has a political turmoil right now - corruption case against their president. So they should demand that the programme be put on hold until that issue issue is resolved?
