Edo has reduced so low to thishuh A whole governor commissioning street light. I have never see any good things Iyamiri youths and wailers supported with good outcome. .this is among the product of their support.

Allow me put records straight.
I'm an edo man and I agree with most of the comments here that obaseki shouldn't have being the one present in such occassioning.

About your last sentence, they are not solar lamps. They are powered by the edo state gas power plant. It's the first of its kind in Nigeria. A state independent generating plant capable of powering the whole of Edo houses but for now the plant serves the street lights around edo state from (6 to 6) and some selected communities already enjoy 24hrs electricity.
Firstly, remember you are on ñairaland where people pour out their entire anger to relieve themselves.
Many don't care to know the history of this project.
Former governor oshiomole built some of these streetlights, modeled after what is obtainable in Lagos state.

Governor Obaseki discovered it was a cesspool of corruption as many of the streetlights were either damaged or not being powered as at when due, while some corrupt politicians and civil servants were getting the allocation diverted to their accounts.

The governor decided to discontinue funding these projects as it was becoming a drain in the state coffers.

Instead, the governor decided to embark on building the Oshiomo power plant, sponsored by Edo state government and other investors.
This power plant is responsible for powering all the 200km route around Benin city, thereby saving the state huge costs that the bureaucratic fat cats were feeding off.

Presently, the whole Benin city is been litted through the night, helping to bring back Nightlife and business now thrives irrespective of time of the day.

In two or three years time, the entire Benin city street would be centrally litted.

Under Tinubu's leadership, Lagos became the first sub-national entity to bring about the Independent Power Project (IPP). The Lagos Independent Power Project of Tinubu's administration powered streetlights, Alausa State Secretariat, Government House, Island Maternity Hospital and other public buildings. This was more than 20 years ago.

This nonsense Obaseki is doing is even a solar streetlight project and you're telling stupid lies.

Street light is now a project a governor will commission after 6 years in office. Chai. What is wrong to my beloved Edo. If it had been power generating station at least it will draw attention.
Street light that will eventually be powered by generator.

A state gas plant and yet edolite has not come to tell us how they enjoy 24/7 light.

Yet no significant improvement base on the gas plant in the state IGR.

Things like constant light is very hard to overcome in a place like Edo/ benin due to the forces operating there, just like it is hard to overcome scarcity of water in deserted countries, you guys don't truly understand what it took this man to successfully overcome this problem.

BEDC is the power distribution company responsible for electrifying Ondo, Edo and Delta. The constitution empowers only them to do so.

Until, the constitution is re-written, Edo state government does not have the power to generate and distribute power in Edo state.

They sell what is left to any distribution company or manufacturing company that is interested in powering it's industry. A limit of 40MW applies though. That's what the constitution says.
