Dear Peter Obi and all Obidients, can you guys explain to us what happened to this great Onitsha monorail project?

The MoU was signed by Peter Obi in 2010 between Anambra state government and a Canadian firm. 12 years later, we are yet to see any monorail. What’s the update on this project?

Seun, Mynd44 and nlfpmod, can we get this to front page?
I can see you're part of the APC contingent that don't want Tinubu to change this failing strategy. You want to continue with No to media.

Thank God Obi did not leave any debts after office in the name of borrowing for monorail.

Basically, if you want to build a monorail in any city in Nigeria, you either need to

1.Borrow the money

2.Charge high taxes.

Obi probably did not complete the project because borrowing the money places more burden on the state, and as for charging higher taxes, or taxing more people ........well, we know that 'Nigerians are poor'. (Anytime one advocates for any measures to improve Nigeria's poor tax income and revenue...one is called an oppressor and evil. And then, they would talk about sane countries...where taxation is a must.)

Let's not use the monorail in Lagos for political gamesmanship. Yes, Lagos did it (though there are 6 PHASES to go)...but Lagos has a lot of tax revenue from the businesses, and the people (Lagos town has estimated 28m people alone domiciled within..we have not talked about the rest of the state self). Anambra? Onitsha is a big town, but it is no lagos (i don't even think Onitsha has up to 15 m people self), and the population of the state is small, and not urban

Personally I would like to see each state linked by rail, and towns/cities like PH, Enugu, Kano, Kaduna, Ibadan, Ife, Abeokuta, etc all having monorails. Abuja is even long overdue for a monorail system linking all parts of the city so that some of us can dump the car on weekdays. But it costs money...and Obi is even very considerate self in not allowing the project go ahead....like Buhari did in 1984...when he cancelled the original Lagos metro project...which would have cost us a very extra large loan.

So, oga seunmsg, chill. Not everything is politics, and not every abandoned project is because of inept government. Even your lagos monorail...I won;t be surprised if the fares don't go up to pay off the loans taken for the project.
Thank you, the monorail masterplan is already here but not a priority yet. With road interconnectivity by Obi rapid urbanization followed and with investment in human capital disposable income has grown. In future a large urban cornubation will form and a monorail will become a pressing need

Even almighty Rivers that borrowed heavily for monorail abandoned it, just like Osun plunged into insolvency with abandoned airport.

I hate all these funny excuses you guys are coming up with. Peter Obi signed an MOU for the construction of a monorail in onitsha. 12 years later, where is the monorail?

This is not about politics or anything. It is simply about asking the right questions and seeking answers from our leaders. If the monorail wasn’t feasible, why sign the MOU?

See, this guy is contesting to be my president and I’m really worried if this is how he intends to rule Nigeria. Sign MOU of projects he knows he can’t implement and then allow his supporters to come up with funny excess 12 years later. Is that what you guys want?

Is it not better to allow people with a record of excellent project planning and implementation to rule the country in the overall interest of all of us? Someone planned for BRT, LFTZ, Eko Atlantic etc at the same time when Peter Obi signed the monorail MOU. Today, BRT, LFTZ, Eko Atlantic and Lekki seaport are a reality while there is no Onitsha monorail. Why can’t we all drop sentiments and support the one that achieved results instead of defending the failure who couldn’t get just one signatory project done?

Well, let's correct something here...I am not an Obi supporter (I am even the odd one out in my immediate circle of friends and family)..nor do I back APC or PDP.

At the end, we can sign one project, but when the money is not there, we abandon the project.

I could even use the same argument that you are using back at you....why hasn't Lagos finished the six phases of the monorail.? Why only one phase? Why did it take them nearly 14 years to finish just a few kilometers?

And by your argument, you are even basically saying your beloved Buhari was wrong for cancelling the original Lagos monorail in 1984....

You guys should , in discussing politics, face the fact that we are a poor nation, and that the aim of your candidate should be how we make more money. Right now, both Tinubu and Obi are talking about removing fuel subsdies..good...but what about raising tax to gdp ratio? Lagos and Anambra both have bad tax to gdp ratios...
Re: Dear Peter Obi, What Happened To The Onitsha Monorail Plan? by sukar886: 9:01am On Dec 24, 2022

You’ve not answered my questions. Peter Obi came up with the plan in 2010 and not me. Any talk about population density or what’s priority to Anambra is irrelevant. If the monorail wasn’t a priority, why did Peter Obi sign an MOU for its development?

Peter Obi had 4 good years to deliver this project and failed terribly at doing so. If four years, the project never moved beyond MOU. He even had the opportunity of singlehandedly picking his successor who could have continued with his vision and signatory projects and again, he bottled it.

So, why should I vote for such a failure who can’t get anything done as my president when I have a better alternative who can boldly push for the actualization of his vision and signatory projects? We all saw Tinubu when he signed the MOU for Lekki free trade zone in China. Today, Lekki free trade zone is a reality. No excuses of of a successor abandoning the project because of solid planning and excellent mentorship.

If you like Nigeria, you will not out of petty ethnic sentiments be supporting a failure like Peter Obi.
Obi promised Anambra Airport, lay the foundation and Obiano actualized it and to you, It's Obiano's legacy project, we agree, since project is allocated to the person that completed it, we have seen many projects started and completed by Peter Obi administration, so, show me one project started and completed by Tinubu administration and I will take you serious, All you do is to claim Fashola and Ambode projects to be Tinubu, I wonder what Fashola will campaign with any day he wishes to run for any political position, No wonder he is indifferent in Tinubu campaign.
An old man you lot should advise to rest, you are here attributing all the projects that he does not even know existed to.
He goes about reading a prepared speeches and you think Nigerians are dump.
I watched one event they wrote, PDP is a tear tear umbrella for him and he was said PDP is a tear tear umbretta and the woman that wrote the speech kept correcting him, Shame on all of you over here defending a calamity of a person to be a president so that another cabal will take over the government. if not bigotry then tell me, In all ramifications , Peter Obi is the best and only the best be the president of Nigeria henceforth.

I understand that some of these big projects takes a lot of money, planning and time to deliver. But then, do Peter Obi supported understand this? Would they come up with similar excuses for Bola Tinubu and the table is reversed?

Again, we must understand a good administrator is not one that can dream up huge projects but one that can put in the hard work to plan for the actualization of the project. Beyond signing the MOU with a company that screams SCAM, what other effort did Peter Obi put in place to ensure the project is delivered? The project was supposed to be financed by the Canadian firm, how come it never took off at anytime?

How did Bola Tinubu succeed in getting investors to finance Lekki seaport, Eko Atlantic, LFTZ, Lagos Railway, Badagry seaport etc and Peter Obi couldn’t get a genuine and credible investiture to back the monorail project? So, who is better for Nigeria between the two of them?
Re: Dear Peter Obi, What Happened To The Onitsha Monorail Plan? by dominic17: 10:31am On Dec 24, 2022
How many of these projects you claimed Tinubu initiated was executed by him? up to date most of these projects is still under construction.so If Obi successors chose to abandon the projects Obi initiated how is it Obi's fault? We should be using our senses in this country.

If you have sense, you will see how Tinubu was a able to plan his own signature projects to ensure they are delivered and not abandoned even after leaving office.

Planning is everything in project delivery. Peter Obi lacked the ability and capacity to plan for the delivery of such project while Tinubu has the capacity and competency to plan for such huge projects. That’s why Tinubu is a far better administrator than Peter Obi and that’s why he would be a far better president than him.

After all his successors were from d same party he ruled?
What does "footprint" mean. One way of knowing bubble heads is when they repeat narratives with no ability to further sound argument on their own.

Someone left a footprint in the state on rail transport and you are asking me why he didn't leave a footprint.
But I thanks the OP for bringing out this Obi's achievement we didn't even know about.

those that came after him ..they were in the same party with him at the time obi left ba

Why did they refuse to follow his footsteps. .as fashola and ambode did to tinubu, even sanwo Olu is doing more than we expected.

No, I can't see how stupid Obi was, I can only see how stupid you are for thinking that Governance in Anambra must begin and end with Obi.

Anambra is not Lagos where every other person freezes his brain because one man is thinking for them. Whether the people after him did well or not, one accolade you cannot deny Obi is that he did not interfere with administration of those after him.

Before asking those that came after him, we must ask him what he did towards the actualization of the project. This MOU was signed in 2010 and Obi left office in 2014. So, what exactly did he do to actualize the project in those 4 years? How much money did he commit to the project and what value did the state get from the money since there is no monorail or any sign of construction whatsoever?
For the fact that the man took the initiative and made the bold step by signing the MoU, it meant he had strong interest in see the project come to life. If he did't do it, something must have happened.

But, wait, when was Lagos rail contract signed, when did they start and why have they not completed it.
