You're right. But from the perspective of an average NG, one should have business (es) aside salary.

Having a bus for public transportation, maybe a car for Uber or a salon is not bad.

While for the 33k USD person, his kinda lifestyle might force him to other business or investment too.

Depend how much is your salary, people that are selling sachet water for water companies are not collecting salary rather money for food. Then those working in the oil industry are not collecting money for food but salary, I mean 6 figure salary... Setting up business isn't a bad idea though. Choice is the best.
