All I know about poultry farming, I learned under duress. grin

My wife is a farmer. She raises broilers.

Zero mortality every set. Except for the usual one or two "abiku" among them grin

Rule of thumb:

1. Day Old Chicks only need water and vitamins for their first seven days. Add some antibiotics to the mix for good measure. The "abiku"s will return to their maker during this period. That's between two to three birds in a batch of 200. Good riddance! It saves you the cost of feed because they will still die in the future if they don't go in that first week. It is their destiny cheesy cheesy cheesy

2. Buy pre-vaccinated birds from your suppliers. This is why you need a trusted source. Don't get carried away by fancy websites or sweet-talking marketers. There are "LIARS" everywhere. Do your own research (DYOR).

3. Lasorta vaccination should come by the 7th day. Remove their water, give them their feed, wait about an hour, then give them the Lasorta. Administer the proper dosage (200 dose for 200 birds, etc). At this point, NO BIRD should die anymore. They are fortified enough for the journey. Any new mortality is squarely your fault going forward.

4. Gumboro vaccination should come in by Day 12 latest. As above, please administer the right dosage. It's not hard.

In summary, mortality is not to be feared. Welcome it in the first week. But I guarantee you, your birds will hardly die at all if you follow protocol. Even "Abiku"s change their minds when they land in a good home grin grin grin cool
From your experience what do you think about antibiotics drugs to broilers

Organic.

Herbs, pepper and fruits.

Clean water.

Serious drugs only where there's sickness. Rarely ever needed.

Good food, Herbs (Agbo), a Clean pen, and Freshwater always.

My babies never fall sick.

THAT IS ALL OOOOO.

No gimmicks.

Visit the nearest poultry drugstore if you notice any sickness.

How much does your bird consume day 1 to 7th week, the cost of a bird and your sales, I'm sure you supply in quantity

I said "combat" you said "prevent" shows a lot already, if you really had done 300birds you wouldn't use such word.
And
Poultry Farmers are willing to learn at every opportunity due to stress broilers comes with.
By your response you're just a small scale farmer that's why it's easy for you.

Fresh water and herbs(agbo) grin grin grin is not something you'll use on 300birds.
And your description about vaccines is surprising too for someone doing such amount.

Thought you genuinely wanted to learn? There's no point in knowing and trolling. I believe anyone on the internet should be wise enough to do what is best for him or her.

With the help of a local miller, we have been able to neutralise the feed with the insane amount of limestone. You can find the new feed's picture below. Formulating one's food is key to keeping one in this business. We can only be grateful.

We are 11-week-old. The formulated feed looks like it's just keeping the birds from dying. They're not growing ever since we started with it.

It's becoming clearer that we have more females, and that's satisfying. This is how we look at 12 Weeks. Will be three months old in two days.

We're grateful ya Allah.

Congrats boss.

Then again, your noilers at 12 weeks are really looking underfed. You should try and work on their feeding. At 16 weeks my noilers were already laying.

Na money. They are seriously underfed. Just trying to keep them alive till things get better. I'm not prepared for this.

How many bags should they be eating now?

What do you think is the likely estimated rĂ tio of male to female in a carton?

If I'm to make any suggestion to you, go back to commercialized feed like Top Feeds...even if you feed them less than they're meant to eat in a day, it will still be better than feeding them with the formulated feed you're experimenting with. You will always get better results with commercialized feed.

See attached for a glimpse of our expenditure so far....

Pray for us. We just received the day old, 400 chicks today.

My flip top feeder seller keeps selling me flip top feeders with very tiny feeding opening. I noticed the opening or the chickens to feed in your images are wide. Can you refer me to your seller or where I can get such exact feeder please?

grin grin grin funny dude

But the thing about noilers is the ability to play around with all kinds of feeds & still get positive results. Giving them commercial feeds won't be advisable in this case. Yes, you can improvise with all sorts. They are built for such purposes. In my case, I used all sorts, from using Spent grains, Corn waste from processing pap, bought bags of pkc and wheat offal for mixing, to going to Alaba to buy waste grains from mallams engaged in grinding grains of all sorts... Trust me, your noilers will do just fine since you have no target in front of you.
And if you still insist on little funds, why no dispose off some?

Can you give me your formula, please? The whole idea behind the choice of kuroiler is to feed them cheaply and get fertile eggs. When I make my calculations for corn, corn chaff, soya bean meal and limestone, the cost that will produce 650 kg of that ingredients is 146k. And a guy promised to produce that at 135k. I just need a cheap formula in short, oga mi sir .
