because he was relevant in the society at that time, as at today he is not relevant to APC or PDP . He his only relevant to people like OBI ,SOWORE, KWANKWASO and other light weight politicians . And visiting OBASANJO means nothing, every state has one or two people you respect if you go to that state and some of them are not politicians, TY DANJUMA in taraba and general abdull Salam abubakar in Niger state. light weight politicians and there supporters see such visit as endorsement

No former leader in nigeria has credibility to endorse any candidate and get huge votes.
They performed badly.

My parents are well respected individuals both here in my home town and the city, they trained us not to accept foolish people like yourself whether young or old.

Taught us to always put disorganised people like you in their place, if you like grow old in your foolishness, my generation will always remind you of a failure that you are.
