How Well Do Nigerian Universities Teach Software Engineering??? by phatriqk(m): 8:50am On Jan 05, 2023
I am considering going to the university to study software engineering, so far I have only seen about 7 universities that teach out of 6 are public university and one is private university (covenant). I am really concern about how well equipped and knowledgeable the universities and lecturers are with the latest technologies and knowledge in that field.

I initially didn’t want to study software engineering through universities, because to me it’s the knowledge I am more interested than mere certificate in paper, I wanted going through NIIT, which I believe will teach me more in depth but it only path to bsc according to them, a lot of people are advising to go to a university but I’m not really convinced.

Not really as deep as colleges or institutes but for you to be the best in your field, self development by online videos will build you up

See.. employment outside Nigeria eg us,. Canada only look at your experience.. that's the only thing I can chip in.. getting a job in Nigeria especially in tech companies, they'll need a back which is a waste of Time and money cos they won't give a deep insight on ICT

Please don't waste your time and money on Nigeria universities if truly want to learn software engineering, except maybe you just want to be referred to as " Engineer" whereas you are not different from a layman in that field.
I remember when I was wasting my time thinking I could teach my friend Emmanuel (a computer scientist) programming. You will not believe that I wasted more than 4 months talking about variables and how to initiate them. Yet the muntula hasn't known beyond the conditional statement till now. It's been 4 years oo

It's really appalling. The truth is that he was even thinking of going for his Masters lol.
When I say he doesn't even know the basics of programming I meant it.
He just managed to be quoting the names of popular programming languages upandan grin

Just too bad. Both the student and the institution share the blame, the institution for being less than mediocre and the student for settling in a comfort zone, believing that a worthless certificate will be his ticket to success instead of taking initiative.
