That's what they want to do for years which ASUU has been resisting. That's why they have been holding on to a lot of lecturer's entitlements. And the selfish students and their parents say ASUU is only fighting for itself. Now, they'll really see the effect of celebrating the frustration of the people who have been fighting for them. Right now, ASUU members are gradually telling their national body to cancel all demands related to cost and quality of education and face only lecturer's welfare. CheapHomes1: 1 Like |

If this increase in University tuition had happened in Anambra state, some unfortunate Tinubu lap dogs will have been very swift to swoop into the thread to drag Peter Obi as if he's the current Governor of the state or the VC of the school in question. Now it's Borno state, nobody is calling Kashim Shettima and tagging him all manner of unprintable names. Finally, all of una go dey alright! |

CheapHomes1: You need to understand that government appoint the VC, Chancellors, Governing councils. Everything still go back to government and governance. In some universities, Electricity bill per year is more than 100m, government is not ready to pay, they are not ready to pay contract workers, not ready to pay visiting and sabbatical lecturers, utilities and many more. When PHCN, Phone networks, transportation companies and all other sectors increased their charges, they were not heartless? Mind you their is different between management of university and lecturers. In many universities, lecturers including professors are always at loggerheads with the management who takes decision. |

ragakaer: What has everything you typed got to do with this? If you think that Nigerian university lecturers and professors give a damn about nigerian students, pls think again. Buhari might be clueless, but many of our lecturers and professors are as heartless and nonchalant as he is |
Re: UNIMAID Students Protest Fees Hike(pictures) by Ikemba007: 9:30pm On Jan 14, 2023 |
CheapHomes1: No, it does not. However, it says it can only pay all entitlements of the lecturers if universities become fully commercialised and revenue generating. How else can universities generate revenue |

Dbegining: It's gradually going to be almost all public universities in Nigeria, people don't know the impact of all these ASUU strikes. Baba emilokan was telling us how he will introduce student's loan and people were hailing him, not knowing it's effectively putting a ceiling on people's ambitions. They can't maintain universities after looting the country dry and poor people have to bear the cost. 1 Like |

SmartPolician: Nigerians will be willing to pay for whatever they are using provided there is an equal and justified distribution of wealth, in a society where the presidency, NASS and govt houses spent over a trillion a year for frivolities, you don't expect people living with a minimum wage of 30,000 to pay for such lifestyles. 1 Like |

Re: UNIMAID Students Protest Fees Hike(pictures) by Canvass: 7:24am On Jan 15, 2023 |
Timoleon: I'm glad you get the overall picture. 998 million or a billion naira, the money would have contributed immensely to ABU's financial standing. Excuse my illiteracy or half-baked education but in the simple arithmetic taught to me in my primary school, 998 million would be rounded up to a billion, and over a billion is still in the range of a billion. However, I appreciate you highlighting the facts against the fiction. Forgive my comedy of errors. |

Ikemba007: if the FG doesnt pay lecturers salaries from school fees generated, how are students and their parents selfish in saying ASUU is only fighting for itself? |
Re: UNIMAID Students Protest Fees Hike(pictures) by Ikemba007: 9:25am On Jan 15, 2023 |
CheapHomes1: Ah! Na wa o! ASUU is fighting for school fees not to be hiked for the purpose of paying lecturer's benefits because education for citizens should not be commercialised. Parents and students are insulting ASUU for dragging with the government. Now it's up to the government to get the funds and pay, and ASUU members should begin to care less about the source of the money. Students and their parents should continue to drag with the government as they have started. Every man should carry his matter on his head. Period! |

Ikemba007: you are the one who said the FG doesnt pay lecturers salaries from school fees generated. how then is ASUU "fighting for school fees not to be hiked for the purpose of paying lecturer's benefits" when their salaries dont come from school fees? if the FG doesnt pay lecturers salaries from school fees generated, how are students and their parents selfish in saying ASUU is only fighting for itself? |
Re: UNIMAID Students Protest Fees Hike(pictures) by Ikemba007: 9:53am On Jan 15, 2023 |
A good starting point will be for you to first appreciate the difference between benefits and salaries in the ASUU matters. That's where you keep interchanging and mixing things up. CheapHomes1: |

Good development if that will stop ASUU strike and help students get jobs after. Every school should has autonomy like in the west,Asia, etc. With this, competition will reduce, and you get the best results. Why will a federal uni fees be peg at 19-35k and you'll see 70,000 students applying for only one course yet the school will take only 150? That's a scam. In a develop country, institutions set their fees and it's left for you to choose either to go to university A or university C depending on your budget. Reason why it's hard to see foreigners in our school because our education system is very backward, poorly equip and corrupt. Just last week I notice one of my lecturer here in university of Alberta Edmonton Canada prof.(name withheld) brought his daughter and the girl just started medicine here too. He's a professor in department of pharmacology. Why did he has to bring her daughter here? Good education system irrespective of the cost. I bet you to Google how much medical student are paying here. Mine was scholarship and when I left, the woman who taught me chemistry told me never take this opportunity for granted while in Canada. So it's a good development if federal university increases fare. You'll see white people in Nigerian school plenty, and things will changed. I know others will say what about the poor masses. Well, even in the USA or other African countries were we have Nigerians, school fees there are still high, the poor are able to get in with government scholarship, the institution entrance exams performance etc. JAMB results can be use as criteria to say once you score atleast 240 and above, government pay half of your fees. That's what is happening in other countries. It's called student loans. You don't pay anything, even your library fee is charged from the student account. You only pay for accommodation (those in 70% bursary). But a full tuition like those in 100% covers accommodation too. With this you'll see progress. But while fees is 19-35k, students are taking that for granted and the government not showing concerns to the school because you're indirectly paying for nothing! You need a steady light in the country, how much are you paying for electric power? People in the UK complain of bills because the government is charging them and providing the service too. Since I came here I haven't seen any day power went off, only when your prepared meter is zero but there's power in it. Once you recharge it's automatically activated,so it depends if you're willing to pay for and use it or not. 2 Likes |
