PlsBanMe:In my State, State Internal Revenue Workers salary is 48k before deduction of Tax and PENSION, after all the deduction the sallary ia about 40-42k. The hotel job is better but for career that of the State Internal Revenue is good cause they have all forms of Chuwa Chuwa's (Stealings) and also, i thinkk 5 Percent of the total revenue they generate in a year is shared amongst all the staff across. That am sure is very high. |

PlsBanMe:Did you read the post at all.? First off, he already the state government job is to pay equivalent salary. He is just trying to see which one has more benefits aside salary. Secondly, the state job is in the Internal Revenue Service which would definitely have more perks than what's obtainable in that hotel. Finally, above all, he would have personal time off work for himself. He can use that time to arrange a personal hustle for himself. Also, the opportunity to meet and interact with his federal counterparts which lead to transfer of service to the federal arm is there. |

When making career decisions, you need to look beyond short term considerations to long run perspective. Key questions to look at are: will the hotel still be running in 10 years time? Is there a path for your personal growth in the industry? My point is, go for the job with prospects . I've barely met auditors from IRS that are not doing well for themselves. Beside their salary, they make side cash. There are also potentials for employment in multinationals, business opportunities as a tax consultant, etc. In conclusion, capture the full picture when making your decisions. |

Choose the IRS job, upgrade yourself professionally, like writing professional exams relating to the IRS job. Continue to further your education also. You will get to the top. But with the hotel job, yes the pays is good, but there's no career growth in hotel jobs. You are already a manager, and that's the highest level for hotel jobs. The risk is also high. The owner can decide to lay off anytime. That's the fact. The stress is also killing. |

I once worked in a reputable hotel for few months, I knew what I saw. No time for yourself, you work like a slave and you get talked down on. I saw how my fellow colleagues were being laid off at the slightest chance. Or is it the guests that feels if they tip you every now and then, then it means you are automatically a call girl they can love-vendor when they want to. Not knowing not all ladies that work in a hotel do such rubbish. I will suggest you go for the government job. Like you said, is the same salary. With time you can work your way up. And it gives you the chance to grow. Honestly,in a hotel if you're not working at the front desk, or a porter, or a housekeeper, or a waitress/waiter, or a bartender, that you get tips every now and then. But just in the maintenance unit, you are just there honestly. Not growing or moving forward? The only difference I see here is that, you will now spend some of your salary on tfare unlike the hotel job that you go home once a week, but at least you will sleep comfortably at the end of the day, also eat a good meal. And have time for yourself and loved ones. please help a sister grow,I am into the supplies of quality and affordable hotel amenities in whatever quantity you need. Be it slippers, shaving kits, soaps, Shampoos, body lotions, combs, shower caps, dental kits, etc. Thank you |

The hotel job is not sustainable. Businesses in the country are usually affected by messed up policies by funny characters who holds such positions and if your boss is not in good terms with government, the business might shut down. Go for the state job and start developing yourself in other areas like studying further, learning new skills and so on. |

Depends on the state though, one thing I can confirm is that you can't be collecting the same salary for 2 years, e dey change with some perks Try apply to those KPMG them auditing firms, those ones get better prospects |

I understand you....I remember a time when I managed a hotel..., I had opportunity of working with the ministry, but due to the benefits I was getting from the hotel I ignored the offer, on the long run I was blackmailed nd lost the job nd that of the ministry it was late for me to go back...till now I have been suffering from the choice I made...think wisely there's nothing as good as job security in the country we are now |

This look exactly like what I wrote about 2 years ago, the OP just made minor adjustments. Since I saw this, I have been looking for the particular thread I created then but can't fine it, I have used several usernames since that time anyway... I am sure it is copied from there, I wish the Op can point me to that my thread, wanted to see the advice I got then. However, I left the hotel and never regretted, I am way bigger in 2 years than the 9 years I spent in hospitality. So Op, if this is truly your story, please go with the IRS. |
