Water heater in SA houses is a necessity because they have a cold winter season. In Naija, it is a luxury. We don’t need it and I dare say many wealthy people don’t even bother to install water heaters in their house because frankly it is not necessary.

Water heaters isn't a luxury and isn't even expensive. We had water heaters in our bathroom growing up and it's not like we were rich rich. Everyone I know has it in their bathrooms. It isn't even a big deal. Nepa taking light is a much recent experience for me as it was such a rare occurrence growing up. No one even had a generator in my neighborhood because it wasn't needed.

My surprise isn't that he doesn't have water heater in his house growing up, my surprise is that he acted as though it was a completely strange and foreign concept he had never seen before. Even moderately priced hotels all have water heaters
