justlovesfarmin:No you should practice crop rotation so as to reduce disease and insect infestation. We divide the farm land into portions and do rotation. Maize after Okro and vice versa |

justlovesfarmin:Honestly I don’t calculate that much because it’s always profitable. I can tell you that it is always profitable . |
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 12:38pm On Jan 01, 2023 |
The reason is that if you properly maintain and apply everything necessary at the right time you are sure of a good return. Even if you encounter glut let say 3 or 4 markets max and you’re going to be harvesting like 20 times. Hope you get my point |

I sprinkle some a little pinch of Rambo insects powder on my vegetable last week, and it's not affecting my efo tete yet, but my question is that I hope it doesn't think affect the soil fertility?. It has not affected any of my vegetables yet both efo and okro, though I make sure I wet with water the next morning after using it the previous evening |

My experience with dry season Okro The first thing I have noticed is the high level of whiteflies infestation caused by the absence of other host for the flies.(2) The growth of the plant is highly retarded because of the inability to take nutrients up from the soil due to lack of water, this can be solved by using irrigation.(3) Okro is very easy to manage as it requires very little attention and very hardy crop I did not have the time and only irrigated thrice before harvesting commenced. (4)The price of a basket is at the highest ever since I started farming .If you have drip irrigation or any way to irrigate regularly your investment return can be up to 500% under proper management 1 Like |

ublight:What I mean is that you should wait till weed germinate before you spray herbicide otherwise the application of herbicide is useless since the herbicides are post emergence 1 Like |

Made my first sales last week Saturday, I was not happy with the sales. Took one of the women selling efo tete in the street to my farm, she harvest all the grown efo tete and she told me my money is N700. I was not happy at all cos I know she will sell all those efo for nothing less than N6000 when she get to town. I collected the N700 and made up my mind never to sell for anyone of those women again. So today I just went to pluck few, use a small rope to bind them into 5 places, before I could get home from the farm, I sold everything. I have to go back to farm to pluck more and I placed it in front of my wife's shop, she sold everything and more people are still coming to ask for more saying it looks very fresh and bigger than what they used to buy before. I'm happy I made N3700 sales today, I'm going to pluck more tomorrow 3 Likes |

Try to find market for your products when they are not yet due for harvesting. Those market women are heartless when they know you’re a newbie. Another way is to associate with fellow farmers who have been planting that crop they will have had already established buyers. 1 Like |

Also consistently planting the same crop for a number of years makes you filter through the bad eggs out of the buyers and middlemen. So my little advice is be in the game for a long time that is when you will actually make good profit and also more knowledge below your belt. 1 Like 1 Share |

I have been working on my next project to be started on the 10th of this month. This naira change is something else even a basket of Okro price has been slashed to 2500. But we move since we don’t harvest once like maize farmers. Hope you’re all getting set? The rain is fast approaching 1 Like
