Being Disciplined Vs Being Passionate: Which Is More Important For Achieving Your Goals?

We are all trying to achieve something in life, and we all know being successful isn't easy.

It can require a combination of both discipline and passion. But in my opinion, I'd say discipline is more important to achieving set goals.

Discipline will take you where passion cannot.

I have been passionate about many things, but wasn't disciplined enough to follow through, hence I didn't succeed in them.

On the other hand, there were set goals I wasn't even passionate about, but I achieved them because I was disciplined enough to follow through to the end.

For example, I have always been passionate about writing fictional books, but for many years I had so many book ideas that never saw the light of day. This was because I wasn't disciplined enough to put in the hours required to write them. I was also too busy writing for my clients (but that's not an excuse for not writing my own personal projects).

It wasn't until 2020 that I decided that no matter the workload I have from my clients and no matter how tired I was from working, that I would still make out the time to write my own book. And in less than a month, I had finished my book which I released in October 2020.

That's my take on discipline and passion as far as achieving set goals is concerned.

You need passion to start and keep going.

You need discipline to keep you focused on your passion.

Both, they are not mutually exclusive. It is not a case of bread and butter, rice and beans or garri and groundnut.

You seriously need both

Discipline all the way...ask David Goggins, Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson etc...

Diligence - "having or showing care and conscientiousness (the quality of wishing to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly.) in one's work or duties."

"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men." Prov. 22v29

Passion o. Discipline is still good though. Generally if you don't have passion the quality of your work suffers

Without passion discipline will get you to your destination/destiny.

DISCIPLINE

According to the movie "the passion of Christ" Jesus Christ was able to endure the severe beating before he was crucified without cursing, because of passion.

But discipline is one of the important ingredient of success. Without discipline it will be impossible to succeed.

With discipline without passion, you can succeed. With passion without discipline, you cannot succeed.

Being Disciplined is everything.

Passion without discipline, will lead to frustration at the end of the day.

Passion makes you love what you're doing, but discipline sustains that love.

You can hardly achieve anything you don't have passion for.

You can't go far if you are not disciplined...discipline ensures you are focused on that thing you have passion for.

You need both. One without the other won't bring you success.

One is your accelerator pedal(PASSION), the other is your break pedal(DISCIPLINE)

Imagine not having break in your car, thats the situation without DISCIPLINE, likewise having a car without accelerator, you go nowhere!

It's discipline.

It's all that is keeping me going. Losing passing pretty quick.

Passion makes me work from morning till night without breaking a sweat ... without feeling any pain.

But Discipline is great too. Just that I can't even imagine doing something you really dislike even with Discipline.

A disciplined person working on a passion project will be hard to beat.

just put God first and your little passion or discipline shall be rewarded in no time
