Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa.

And the 7th most populous nation in the world.

So it is no-brainer that Nigeria should be among the first countries for deployment.

Hope they actually spread and give these mobile networks a run for their money.. Where's multilinks, Starcomms and all those other CDMA networks that came put sometime ago
There is no need for spreading. They are already everywhere in Nigeria.

It is a satellite system.

So if people in Sambisa forest acquire the hardware they can be watching Netflix HD without any interruption.

Hope they find a way to bring down the installation cost.

I also want to ask, if this starlink which reportedly has antenna to be installed will serve me in my workplace or I can only use it from home.

i ams sure Musk will have his marketers in Nigeria who will push the services to people who don't know what Starlink offers

Bossman:
Yes, the installation cost is quite high. However, that will come down with time. No, it's not really movable. As you will be connecting to a stationary router that's hooked up to the satellite dish mounted somewhere at your property.
It can actually be moved. It may not be as mobile as your pocket WIFI or your mobile broadband router.

Just that you'll have to install it in each location you move to.

Basically, the installation process is no different from installing DSTV and might be easier considering that the antenna is not as big as a dish.

Just point to the satellite and mount and you're good to go.

Who told you the equipment is about $700 and you will pay about 100 US Dollar in months for the non flexible option. The flexible option where you can move all over the world with it at a speed not exceeding 40 km an hour will cost 140 dollars for every month

So in summary what you're saying is??

What is starlink
Re: Nigeria Is The First African Country To Use Elon Musk's Starlink by MasterTeeUSA: 3:30am On Feb 01, 2023
Another dumb statement...you need HIGH SPEED internet to increase trade and prosperity....and it is cheaper than the alternatives so that will leave more disposable income for the people. More areas can open internet access because of its longer reach. Please READ before you comment.

Nothing new bro. Starlink is meaningless if poverty index is high here.

Zip it! You and your ilks run around here like you’re the most patriotic Nigerian there is but in reality you all are nothing but a sycophants! In case you’ve forgotten, Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians therefore it’s the right of Nigerians to criticize the government in areas where the govt has totally failed or is performing abysmally. Similarly, it’s the right of Nigerians to applaud the govt when it is performing optimally. May Nigeria be good for us all!

You don’t get, you feel it’s by all these when the average citizen is hungry and dying from hunger, kidnapping, banditry, etc. country where if you don’t know anyone you would die poor, country where govt don’t assist the citizens, South African pay their vulnerable single mothers etc and unemployed. Countries have to work, Country where if you don’t do yahoo or bg fraud or know people, or lick ass or enter politics to play dirty, or you will die poor.
Let me supprise you.
I recently went to lasuth. Normally I use the CCU hospital, the one allegedly owned by bourdillion baba.
But this time I decide to go to the normal dental clinic. The regular ward. Bought form for ₦650, wasted the whole day before doing scaling and polishing for about 9k, with 3k settlement to fasten up the service.
For the main purpose I went there nko, they said I should do xray, 5k. Waited hours. Finally did it. To do the dental work, they charged be 650k!
Government hospital ohh, not private. A place where the ordinary citizen should be able to go to as a last resort.some of us can afford to pay. But how many people can?

Am talking of the cost of procurement bro. 600$ is annual salary of millions here ok and above 200million people here can't not splash such amount on it.

I blame you not cos your level of thinking is hanging on irrationality in defending what favours the rich.

Good news. I hope it becomes affordable. And i hope it's super fast. All these mobile networks are disappointing to say the least. Even their mifi devices are slow. ..

Bros, this isn't an achievement at all. They came here because they know we would jump at anything to spend money meaninglessly to show off.
South Africa, Egypt, Morocco etc are better off economically, but would rather support their home grown products and pay little attention to any foreign product.
But here in Nigeria, we are known for abandoning our own for anything foreign in order to show off class.
They know we are wasteful spenders. That's why they are here. Does any Nigerian have shares there? It's just another avenue to milk us.

Sometimes when you keep quiet people will think you have sense

Don't put mouth in what you don't understand
SUFFERInSMILIIN:

Before you open your mouth or type something please use your brain if your brain is an illiterate brain try to get educated. SpaceX starlink is the cheapest form of internet in the world at a price of 100 US dollar for 160 mbps. If you want that same data plan from MTN they will charge you something like 300 US dollar.

From the test results all over Africa it is the cheapest but no result has been done in Nigeria yet . The only countries South Africa Ghana and Kenya test results work done and equipment was sold a month later. It is limited order on hardware and equipment 100 to 200 per African country

You miss the POINT. Every community investment comes from the Rich and wealthy, but it has to make sense. Given the reach of Starlink, you will have Rural investments because they don't have to wait for the govt to invest in infrastructures. You can train people to get on the internet and make money across the globe. You are focusing on what the average Nigerian makes now, but failed to look at the potential that this can bring to every nook and cranny. One person can install it, and provide access to millions. Over time, the cost of doing businesses will reduce with more competitors.

In Nigeria you still pay more for DATA than most people abroad, but guess what, the need and effectiveness drives people to pay for it. This is an amazing news and we need to learn to focus on the positives. You don't plan to stay POOR forever, so start seeing yourself beyond poverty mentality.

You misunderstand the true intent of the type of posters you're responding to with this post. They don't give a damn about poor people in Nigeria or any of that. They are at best trivial minded types and at worst the embodiment of all the negetives responsible for the backwardness of black people and Africa. Some are likely unhappy just because Starlink is in Nigeria and not right now in other parts of Africa where thire true loyalties are, for example Ghana, South Africa or some other godforsaken shithole. This type fear that the entire world has time to sit around watching developments in Africa. So this type spend a lot of time on social media misrepresenting the reality of Africa. They try to give the impression that where they come from in Africa is more developed than Nigeria, hoping that this drives visitations and investment to thire country and away from Nigeria. They are waging a low level but often treacherous sort of economic war against Nigeria, a war of which Nigerians are largely unaware. Then another type view all things through the prism of party political affiliation. This simple minded type worry that any positive development in Nigeria might be attributed to the party in power and so they strive to poo-poo any development in Nigeria.
