Please correct me in case I get it wrong. The same Free Education enjoyed by Mid-West that used to be part of Western Nigeria.

Students from all over Nigeria and Africa relocated to Western Nigeria to gain Free Education.

I did not come here to exchange insults with ignoramus that cannot point to any authority more than a book written by a Yoruba Oba of Bini about 20 years ago, trying to crash Ogiso dynasty with strong resistance of Ogiamen.

He settled them by leasing a land at every coronation. They had no choice anyway, Oranmiyan crushed their forefathers resistance.

If he knew the history of Ogiso, he would have known that Ekhanleran founded Ughoton where he is celebrated every year.
Pls can you tell us more

Ekerlederan died in Ugotton or ughotto or gwatto. His descendants are in succession chief (leader) of Ughotton.

Ekarledaran descendant met the Portuguese who came to Ughotto and to meet Oba Bini in 1485/86. This is well documented in European account in West Africa. So, it's no ludicrous but candid fact.

So, Ekarledaran founded and died in Ughotto. His descendants are still there till tomorrow. Infact, a son of Edo land did research on the port history in Bini kingdom.

We Yoruba Muslims can't deny the fact that Yoruba people were immigrants from Togo who lived under the Great Benin Kingdom, the Benin kingdom colonised and gave us our first civilisation,
You're a non Yoruba dirty troll monkey. And Yorubas are Christian, Muslim and traditionalists not one religion. Yoruba civilized the the jungle bini-Edos and even gave them a name.

I know vividly you detest the truth. So, let me give you a hint that this information on Ohen Olokun, the generational descendants of Ekaladerhan is well known in Gwatto and Europeans account which actually paved way for other Europeans to come to West Africa via same closely route. cool grin angry cheesy

Infact, the researcher visited Gwato and did field interview which the interviewees had among them the oldest personality in the community, Ekaladerhan descendants and other people of great reputation grin

Ogiso was what they were using as a title and yes, when a new dynasty sprung up, the new system takes over which easily led to the change of name and title bearing.

The ile ibinu as exonym is quite right which also need consideration for it to be well established in the influence on the monarchial system, language, Art metal working etc .

So it will be absurdity to condemn the new identity from eleventh century or thereabout and pushed backwards to old order. Afterall there are account to that effect that there were many Yoruba migrant into Bini via Oranmiyan and before him.

Lastly, kindly read up the citation once more from my former post. Thank you

Ogiso are myth, olu you nor dey hear word you just want that shrine keeper called ooni to be falsely overlord of benin monarch lol... Yorubas and history stealing pity your ancestors were slaves to ours

The Benin country was one of the African kingdom most visited by the europeans, And so many European ethnographers visited the kingdom to collect cultural information of the country benin, the most of european documentation written about benin kingdom are still yet to be explored , and even translated to English, sometimes the benin soldiers were hired by the europeans with the consent of the oba of benin, when the europeans needed to explore the hinterland of foreign old Nigerian territories

The ogisos (sky kings)
To find the truth behind ogiso dynasty if they truly existed we need to first interpret the Benin traditional worship believe system

The Benin traditional belief system is based on pure animism were they believe everyone that dies their spirit wonders around on earth to protect their loved ones... And an alter would be set for the deceased as a means to communicate to the dead spirit, the benins traditional system also believed on powerful monarchs the king of sea(olokun) and the king of the earth ( oba of benin) overtime the oba of benin became more powerful than than olokun... And had control over it
The benins believed on life on earth after death and and associated no spirituality to the sky, the benins believe in the gods of the wind, sun who comes together to bring rain they also believed these God's were on earth and not in the heavens

The question now is how did the ogiso narrative come into being ... If benins never associated relevance to heaven

Overtime the european Christian influence warranted some benins who were questioned by European ethnographers to give answers to these ethnographers that believe would suite them and not necessarily reality ...
The ogiso narrative was born out of european Christianity narrative of a sky king the benins were aware of this Christian narrative of Jesus christ through European missionaries and they gave answers to what they felt would be appealing.... And when the europeans enquired further on the existence of the ogiso the benins told the europeans that the ogiso ruled in the time of the earth had no sun or moon

Oba esigie who welcomed Christianity into benin after the Benin-idah war brought the osa(God) the sky king narrative who oversees everyone on earth.... From his time you will begin to hear edo names with the acronym osa

If ogiso were truly myth like what we have seeing then the title oba have always indigenous

The act making ogiso narrative real in benin history was an act to make the kingdom look older...

Let me pretend that Ogiso is a myth, but does Igodomigodo turned Bini not recognise Ekaladerhan as Ogiso Owodo's son ?

If you like or not,it doesnt change the face of fact. So,deal with it. If Ooni was a slave, how come Oba Bini still pay homage to the oldest crown in Yorubaland of ileife under the information of my ancestor's throne ?

Importantly Oba Esigie never wanted Christianity in Bini land if you do not know. Rather, the Portugese ambassador in the person of John Alfonso D'AVeiro advice Oba Esigie to accept Christianity which would lead to access to Gun,Cannon of that era and eventually it materialised which led to the rise and fall of Bini Kingdom.

And from this, the might of Bini in 1500s cheesy grin. So, do not paint it as if Oba Bini singlehandedly adore the Portuguese form of Christianity or any christian faith. This is far from the truth. Hence, wealth and Weapon was what Oba chased after during that era.

You see, I can even give information on certain area where such canon were used in Yorubaland before and thereafter the Edo warriors who were seen as invicible were mortal and chased away grin

Benins supplied weapons to the yorubas during the yoruba Civil War that is a known fact the issues with you yorubas is you guys shy away from reading your own history and the few who does don't always read with an open mind and as such you guys will always misyarn at the end of the day

I will advise you to go and read the works of Samuel Johnson the history of yoruba for more insight, smj personally witnessed the yoruba Civil War and how benins supplied weapons to the yorubas to kill themselves so try not to overbloat yourself

There was nothing like ogiso it has always been oba, ogiso were mythical discussions that were influenced by portoguese missionaries who asked the benins in the past if they also believed on sky king too like Jesus

Our people from the other side are good people but some of them can talk from both sides of their mouth.
If it is politically expedient they will use "pseudo-intellectualism" to try to obfuscate others. Imagine if an Ijaw or Igbo man is boasting of single-handedly bringing the calamity of APC upon us since almost 8 years, Falana and the most educated among them will be protesting all over Abuja and Lagos by now. Like during GEJ subsidy protest.

They can see truth koro koro and still use ethno-political expediency to ignore it totally. Truth to them is what they want to impose on others for the bigger political grand scheme. History, religion, truth and all are not spared if that is what it takes.

That toga of unreliability of principles that they believe means smartness or being manipulative doesn't sit well with people like Edo. Igbos have the same issues with them.

At individual level especially in Eastern Yorubaland, they are much more honest.

You actually need good recommended eye glasses grin . After the failure by Ruy De Sequeira, who was the first Portuguese to arrived at Gwato in 1472. From the second arrival of the Portuguese John Alfonso D'Aveiro who made contact with Oba Ozolua 1486, there were trading which brought exposure to Biniland. But, more around early 1500s AD that Oba Esigie became desirous for defense and laterexpansionism, then acquisition of gun and other ammunitions surfaced which gave her advantage over communities to the West and East.

This ammunition was what were used to chase away Idah warriors who were at the
entrance to Biniland. So,Bini's gloryi is based on gun and Canon that were acquired from Portugal cheesy

Kindly educate yourself to understand history of gun in west Africa, using interaction between Bini and Portugal trade as a case study. Perhaps , you will understand better.

Infact, decline came to be on the part of Bini because it became suspicious when the Portuguese government tactically withdrew such supply due to the fact that,"Christianity" that was introduced by them was not expanding.

Yet arms were what the Bini king and officials were after to acquire, which is obviously meant for subjugation and abuse of power. This was the the end of it all.

You see,all along the Bini warriors were not extraordinary warriors but hoped on gun supply and Canon got from Portugal. But at the end, when Bini kingdom ran out of suppply from Portugal, the kingdom retuned back to her normal status.

So what was Britain, USA and other earlier kingdoms glories based on? Boxing, karate and kung-fu grin grin grin

Joke aside, Benin was already a dominant force before the arrival of Europeans, guns and Canon. The Europeans met a highly organised society in Benin when they first arrived.

The law and order they met on ground was not due to guns and Canon.

Benin domination of the entire area before the arrival of the Portuguese was not due to guns and Canon.

There was no Bini domination of entire area. Please, state how such came to be grin .

Information to this position of yours does not exist, so, stop falsehood. In as much as Idah was a problem to Bini kingdom in late 1400s and 1500s, then it was obvious the acquired ammunitions gave more output to Bini kingdom's glory. No, doubt about it but short lived.

At a time in history, the relationship between Portugal and Bini capsized which led to dwindling fortune of Oba Bini, his chiefs as well as Ohen Olokun, Ekaladerhan descendant, the chief priest of Olokun deity, whom was always given Ekpan, annually for Olokun festival grin

Infact, at the peak of desperation,Oba Bini begun to capture humans for barter with the Portuguese. This also didnt help matters aswell because Bini chickens have come home to roost cheesy grin cheesy

Even if we were to calculate from your agreed date of Benin domination, late 1400s to 1897 is still over 400 years, is this what you called short lived. This was the same period Rome colonised Britain.

Benin didn't fall or was defeated by any of her neighbours. Benin only fell to Britain in 1897. All problems Benin had were internal, princes fighting themselves.

1. By early 1500s Benin defeated Ida

2. Between 1550 to 1600s Benin was in charge of Lagos.

3. By 1818 Benin supplied guns to yoruba people to fight themselves in Kiriji war.

4. By 1824, the Alaafin of Oyo told the British that he has sent for help from the Oba of Benin to send troops to help the Alaafin defeat his yoruba neighbours.

5. In 1897 Benin fell to the British.

1-Fact

Also:
2-And remained technically so until 1861 when Dosunmu fully ceded Lagos to Queen Victoria. Yes, Benin influence had waned since 1851.

3-Same year Oba Osemwende sacked Akure colony

4-Same year Benin Empire became one of the first countries to officially recognise Brazillian independence, alongside USA and Argentina. Not least because of Prince Pedro of Braganza/Portugal, Regent of Brazil. Benin had good ancient ties with Portugal. Unlike the sneaky British.

5-Fact

Lol.

How on earth do shortlived meant to you ? And so, it is my calculations and not European account of voyage and interaction between Bini and Portugal ? Educate yourself

Anyway, whatever you think, it is glorifying to Bini kingdom, you can posit on them but be honest with your information as I have done. Meanwhile, as at 1800s, Bini warriors were living on the era past glory of Canon and musket grin usage when dane gun had slipped into Yoruba land via other seaports cheesy

ILE-IFE IS THE OLDEST KINGDOM IN NIGERIA, NOT BINI

Ile-Ife Kingdom is the Oldest Kingdom in Nigeria and 2nd oldest Kingdom after Sahelian kingdom of Ghana in West Africa which was recorded from 11th century.
Some historical evidence prove that Ile-Ife was 4th Century while others said Ile-Ife has been in existence in the history of mankind, and the proof shouldn't be known to anyone or recorded.

Greek Historian, Herodotus, the father of History who lived from 4824 BC until 424 BC said about Ife: " According to history there were five ancient cities in Africa between 3000 and 1000 BC of which one was Ife".

According to BBC UK, The kingdom of Ife developed in the rainforest in the 600s. Its art and religion influenced the culture of Benin, which began in the 900s and reached the height of its power between the 1400s and the 1600s.

Between 700 and 1600, there were three great empires in the centre of West Africa: Ancient Ghana, Mali and Songhai. They all grew immensely rich by trading in gold. One of the last great kingdoms was Asante. It was founded around 1700. The Asante people were famous for their work in gold.

The Bini Kingdom that was later destroyed by the British was formed in 1170CE. Bini Kingdom was a neighbouring Kingdom to Ile-Ife Kingdom, and this is why in the history of bini today, the Ruler that established Obaship in bini was from Ile-Ife (Olumense 1719) etc.

The largest ethnic in West Africa sources from Ile-Ife ranging from Nigeria, Benin Republic, Ghana, Gambia etc. The root of some of these ancient tribes in West African countries were traced to Ile-Ife.

Father of history Herodotus, put in his record that the Europeans only attacked Bini kingdom due to disagreement, it is not that there are no other neighbouring kingdoms. If there were no neighbouring kingdom, then the prince of Ile-Ife wont be invited by bini people to rule over their land.

Ile-Ife remains where it is today in a place now called Western Nigeria, but we can see majority of tribes even outside Nigeria tracing their roots to ile-ife. History reveals that Ile-Ife has been existing before historian started putting it in record. Ile-Ife wasn't created by any ruler or king. It was a forest before it was established by the inhabitant and records were taken.
