How Long Should You wait before you Follow Up After A Job Interview? by HomoSapiien: 6:18pm On Feb 02, 2023
So I had an interview with an accounting company yesterday, and I think I didn’t do bad in the interview.

I was asked when I’d be available to resume, I said I’m free anytime, but since yesterday, I’m yet to get a feedback.

I have one of the HRs contact, I’m thinking of calling him, but I don’t want to do this in rush, so I’ll like to ask how long should I chill for their feedback before following up in case I don’t get to hear any?

I seriously need this job.

Lolz... Only yesterday and your body's itching you.

Better calm down and give them like a week or two weeks.

My HR is currently interviewing a set of 100 persons for a remote role and it's been a hectic job so far.

Some don't show up, some show up and don't adequately prepare. So she has to schedule for another set most times.

It has taken almost three weeks though, but she's set to round up by today and move onto sending out offer letters by next week.

I'd normally advise that you give them two to four weeks.

it's just one day. Don't rush things. I had an interview almost 3 weeks now and I've not gotten any response including the people we went together.

You should have asked during the interview how long it will take the interviewer(s) to make a final decision (I'm surprised you didn't ask this)

It's not a must though but I always recommend one to send a quick thank you note/email within 24 hours of your interview. After all, courtesy goes a long way and you want to be top of the interviewers mind.

It's not late though since it's not up to 24 hours you were interviewed.

After the suggested time frame has come and gone and you have not heard anything, be sure to email a request to ask if you are still being considered for the role and to stress your continued interest.

From the initial follow up email, wait one full week from the day you send that email for a response.

If you still haven’t heard anything, take it as an opportunity to call for an update and request any feedback or information they can provide you on the status of your interview (you deserve to know this)

Follow up with another mail

Note: It's not a sign of weakness but strength. You are showing the hiring team how much you really are interested in the position.

Follow up the third time on mail and one phone call before concluding.

If it's been 4-5 weeks after your interview and you have heard absolutely nothing, it may be time to assume that the role has been filled which is what most firms does(silent approach) Afterwards, you move on.
I hope you don't
Good luck

The best practice is to send the team Thank you note 24 hours after your interview.

Then after 5 working days, you can ask the HR for the feedback and tell them know your willingness to work with them, tell then value you're bringing to thier organisation and how you would help them achieve thier goals and objectives with your skills

When I interviewed for my present job, I was told they would get back to me after 2 weeks and they did.

You can always ask during interviews what the next stage will be when an interviewer asks if you have any questions for them. It's an opportunity for you to understand their interview process and timelines. It is also not a bad idea of you have the interviewer(s)/ HR email addresses to send an email post interview appreciating them for their time and letting them know how excited you are about joining their firm. They may respond and let you know the ext steps.

Just strategies you can use without sounding desperate. Wish you the best!

I don’t believe reaching out changes anything. If they want you for the job they will call you. They ask everybody they interview about their availability to start. Just keep on applying for jobs until you get an offer.

Hmmm.... go to an interview one day and expecting to hear from them the next ... because you are desperate. Like someone advised.... keep moving on. Call the HR person.... you can kiss your chances goodbye.

like 1month . But honestly, if you meet the merit of the job you don't need to follow up but praying for their call.
Standard companies would contact you either successful or unsuccessful so that the applicants could remove minds from there

Do not follow-up on any job after interview if you dont have a "back bone" in the organisation. When they find you worthy, you'll be called to resume.

My experience years back;

I got a job invite/interview and after some time, I followed up with the HR to know why it was taking time because I was good at answering the questions.

FF>>
HR sent a message saying stuff but I knew at that point that I should not have sent a reminder....

POA👉Go for an interview, search for other openings until you are called

I went for an interview and during salary negotiation we didn't agree on a figure, so they told me they would get back to me.

After one week they called to give me their offer, I still wasn't okay with it. They said they will get back.

After two weeks I didn't hear from them, I see no reason to call them. If they are okay with salary expectations they would have.

So chill. If they want you they will call.

There might be other candidates to interview. After which HR summarizes the candidates and discusses with MD. They will then prepare an acceptance letter with benefits to get it approved.
After which you will be called to either say we would like a second interview or welcome aboard.
Ideally, when I am asked how soon can I start - My response is always, I would like to give my present company professional curtesy of 1 week to find a replacement.

A month is okay. HR needs to decide on which candidates to hire and also get approval of the management.
