Currency Redesign Has Socio-economic Benefits –Obi by shuttox: 4:35am On Feb 05, 2023 |
Labour Party president candidate and former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to bear with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Government in the naira redesigning programme, saying it is not perculiar to the country. Obi, in a message yesterday, said that despite the fact the currency redesign comes with some inconveniences, it has long-term benefits He urged the CBN and banks to do everything possible to make the new notes available. Obi’s statement reads: “The currency redesign is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is an exercise that comes with some inconvenience and pain, but it has significant longterm economic and social benefits. “Even though there are improvements that can be made, I urge Nigerians to bear with the CBN and Federal Government with the hope that the general populace and Nigeria will harvest the gains that will come with the reforms. We equally implore the CBN and the banks to expedite efforts to make the new currency available to small depositors and the unbanked in order to reduce the pains of my fellow Nigerians, especially the underprivileged and those living far away from banks in the rural areas.” https://www.sunnewsonline.com/currency-redesign-has-socio-economic-benefits-obi-2/ 3 Likes

FarahAideed: He's talking about currency redesign as a concept, not its implementation in Nigeria. The press statement now says that there are obvious harsh effects but that Nigerians should bear with those because the concept has a long-term positive impact. Why is this press release so hard for you to grasp? 9 Likes |

I am NOT an Economist But I can tell that this Naira Re-Design will curb inflation for @least the Next 5 years. Scarcity of New notes will make most Producers of Goods, be Afraid of Increasing Price. CBN should print Less of New 1000, 500 and 200 notes and MORE of N100 old notes! 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Destroying the aim and purpose of redesigned notes that is done in other countries. Or you want him to begin to pick fight with people? Use debit card to make payments Cash should be used only for little transactions A central bank should have control of money supply to keep exchange rate reasonable CBN policy is good all transactions should be done by Card via POS terminal or by bank transfer This stops kidnapping and theft and also ensures tax compliance Printing of excessive cash for circulation is evil There is no place in the world where people can pay or withdraw millions over the counter, it's done by bank transfer for tax and money laundering reasons 3 Likes |

The currency redesign has a long lasting economic benefits but the implementation is awful. Besides, the idea of currency redesign didn't came up because of the economic benefits of curbing inflation, the idea was to deal with certain politician(s) for certain reasons. That is why the implementation was bad. I have noticed that that those supporting the Labour party presidential candidate have seriously been zombified. It seems they no longer have a brain of their own. They accept and support what ever Obi said without evaluating it. There was a thread yesterday where Obi was lamenting about the hardship caused by naira redesign, his supporters where hailing him. Today Obi is saying the naira redesign is good and the same people are hailing him. Same thing goes to Atiku and Tinubu supporters, zombified set of humans who can not think for themselves. If at this stage and age we still have people supporting all these useless polithiefians like this, it means we still have a long way to go. |

Even though there are improvements that can be made, I urge Nigerians to bear with the CBN and Federal Government with the hope that the general populace and Nigeria will harvest the gains that will come with the reforms." How insensitive and callous of Obi to make such statement after seeing the pain and chaos going on over the mess that Buhari and Emefiele have caused. Nigerians supporting Obi may be making a big mistake if he wins, he may continue this Buhari's evil cashless policies..... He may be another "false messiah" just like Buhari in 2015.... I hope those supporting him are using their heads and are not into the cult of personality that have characterized Peter Obi's meteoric popularity after decamping from PDP and joining labour party.... I wonder how Obi can see economic benefit in punishing Nigerians.... This is a clear indication that he is in support of what is going on.... He is asking Nigerians to bear because it is not affecting him.... 1 Like |

Mumu don shoot himself for foot. First, his reaction came way too late. Too late. The last of the top 4 to speak about the current economic hardship. Pandora Anini should tell us forward thinking countries where the citizens suffer like Nigerians are suffering because their apex bank want to swap or redesign their currency. I don know say he's a sakamanje and a very selfish conman. I'm beginning to think Obingo is more selfish than mikano. This is the man promising to turn Nigeria to Dubai - someone who has spoken so much against the oppression, poverty, backwardness, corruption, etc affecting the country. Suddenly, the demonic economic swap is good because it's was designed to fight corrupt politicians. This guys is too poor in tact and reasoning to be a politician in such a complex country like ours. Na just motivational speech - no wit! zero sagacity! Buhari and the Presidency are saving face with "CBN gave false intel" "CBN told us there would be no problem" but the dull Pandora is telling people to be patient with the ill-thought policy. That's the presidency literally agreeing with what people have been saying that the policy is a flop The ode is literally saying everyone who opposed the swap policy are wrong and people deserve the unnecessary hardship. I see zero leadership quality in Obi; no wonder the Sultan of Sokoto gave him a book to read about leadership The way I see it Pandora internationally kept quiet and was so happy that "Buhari was fighting Asiwaju with the redesign policy." The delusional man discovered late that he has been left behind when the presidency started piling blame on the CBN. He had no choice than to come out with that nonsense and watery reaction. Again, ask Pandora to mention countries that are forward thinking that do currency resign like the CBN did. People should leave social media and listen to local radio stations for a day to listen to people complaining about the hardship they're experiencing because of the swap. There is no note for people to spend. Cash scarcity. The masses are forced out from engaging in the economy. Bad online banking experiences. But Pandora said this kind of things are common with countries doing currency resigns It's no surprise though. Someone who threw Anambrans into poverty because he wants to save to invest in a family beer business will see no big deal about the current hardship. Masses wallowing in mediocrity is what gives him erection Hopium: |
