The idiot thinks I'm an APC supporter.

The population of the country is growing astronomically, oil price is not rising, revenue is stagnant but subsidy remains.

You don't have to be a prophet to know. The signs are clear.
It's more of a case of mismanagement of resources than oversubsidy.

Oil barrels are missing daily in millions, NNPC cannot give account of their revenue, political leaders living lavished lives while being comfortable with 30k min wage. There's bound to be some reactions.

The poverty level is already high, the government has to alleviate poverty first before we begin to discuss whether Nigerians are over subsidised.

Keep blabbing and saying nonsense. The mofo says Nigeria is doing too much for its citizens, yet he says the situation of the country is hopeless and that breakup is the only way out.

You're just confused and deluded.

Until you can tell me what % of your income you currently pay in income tax, you will be put on the naughty step and ignored.

What your smooth brain is unable to understand is that the FG is subsidising too much relative to how much it earns. This does not preclude corruption from happening.

But when you see multiple presidents telling you fuel subsidy must end, including all 3 candidates in this election, when you see VP Osinbajo begging CBN to stop burning billions trying to prop up the Naira, when you see ASUU striking for months because FG can't afford to pay staff, it shouldn't sound too crazy to you to realise your country is broke.

When you hear CBN telling you that NNPC hasnt remitted monet into its accounts for months, and when NNPC comes back with a rebuttal that all its revenue is being used to service Nigeria's fuel subsidy commitments, then you should have a sense of what is really going on.

You are a gbolo complaining that fuel prices are at an all time high. What do you think kept them low in the first instance? To put in perspective, here in the UK, 50% of the pump price per litre of Petrol goes straight to the government in Tax.

Not only are the UK government not subsidising our petrol, they are literally doubling the pump price per litre through taxation.

You have never lived in a real capitalist society so you can't understand what I'm talking about. If FG were to let market forces run unfettered in that country, you would be crying tears of blood.

I don't have time to read garbage. I'd take you seriously when you can show me how the country that you say is hopeless is doing too much for its citizens.

Keep typing nonsense and contradicting yourself. The fool says Nigeria is a hopeless country then turns around to say it's doing too much for its citizens.

Posting nonsensical comments when the person that made the original statement already admitted his gaffe.

Nigeria was already subsidizing his tertiary education. Why should he deserve a student loan again?

That's the problem of majority of Nigerian citizens/voters - excessive entitlement. This country is already doing too much for its citizens despite the fact that majority of the populace pay no direct tax.Y should any feel obligated to pay when 1 person alone is stealing billions.

Tertiary education - subsidised
Fuel - subsidised
Healthcare - subsidised
Forex (dollars) - partially subsidised

The people are not paying the real price for the products they consume and the services they enjoy yet they keep breeding to increase the number of beneficiaries... How country wan grow? It will breakdown at a certain point.

I'm interested in reading the facts of the case of Lawan & Machina. I will like to know on what authority the supreme premised their judgement.

I remember one of the good things that was celebrated concerning the new electoral act was that it eliminates the issue of a place holder obtaining a ticket on ur behalf while you contest another election. As it stands it appears all that has gone to the gutters now.

It appears the new electoral law will not achieve anything aferall.

When our revenue as a country is compared to our population most will realize that we are a poor country

Sometimes we will read that Nigerias total budget is equal to a ministry budget in a state in a foreign country

Some of the subsidies are not sustainable given our population

In a state like California certain income bands pay 37% to Federal, pay 12% to state before other deductions that is over 50% of total income gone

In some European countries its even worse

We need to either find a way to increase the size of the cake or reduce the mouths that depend on the cake

I do not disagree with you pointing out individual cases of tribal hatred where necessary. I have even corroborated it a number of times. Everyone reading this can confirm this.

What I disagree with is the frequency with which you point it out, even unprovoked, and interrupting free-flowing conversations about life and other aspects of it.

Even when the predominant topic is about nonpolitical issues such as tech, finance, migrations and the likes, with everyone engaging and reading and having intelligent exchanges, boom! You flood the thread with screenshots of tribalism or perceived ones out of the blues.
From virtual camaderie to virtual carnage in one fell swoop.
It's like watching a comedy flick or drama and out of the blues, someone gets beheaded. No lead-up, no build-up, no warning.

It's a sign of weakness to always portray yourself as the hunted. It's a sign of weakness to ALWAYS be on the lookout for prejudice. It's the worst form of identity politics. And the same mentality of people who still blame slavery for all the misgovernance and underdevelopment in Africa.

Calm down.

Ona kan o w'oja. We have to do both. Increase revenue and also reduce unnecessary expenditure like subsidies (fuel and tertiary education for instance) and embezzlement. If those efforts are implemented successfully the country's judgement day might be postponed.

Instead of subsidising petrol, they should give us steady light so we don’t burn lots of money on power generators.

These guys steal billions per year and then find it hard to provide basic amenities

Education is really cheap Sha thankfully

Will you invest in power generation in Nigeria? Since it's mostly private sector driven in most countries

But the man is right. Any body that hopes to change the lives of Nigerians must fix the power sector completely

The Manufacturing industry depends 99% on diesel. If they had electricity, that cost would be halved or even removed entirely.

NRC have said that the rails are running on a total loss; I can't doubt that because all are diesel powered.

Imagine paying 4000 from Lagos-Ibadan by rail, and still use 2 hours plus on the journey. Where is the economic sense in that?

Steady power is our very first step to a better economy

The government built most of these infrastructures even with lesser revenue… they should forget looting for some time and invest

I’m sure some big conglomerates will be interested in our power sector as well with all that coal and gas underneath the land… na lack of foresight Dey worry these people

Government really should not be involved in running the power sector. That sector should be fully deregulated.
The main problem is that Nigerians cannot afford power if they had to pay actual price.
Here in the UK, it came out last week that energy companies were breaking into their customer's houses to forcibly install prepayment meters, due to the large number of defaults on energy payments

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/british-gas-prepayment-meter-debt-energy-bills-investigation-wrgnzt6xs

This is why FG is still involved in a sector that it cannot hope to realistically manage - to try and keep prices down for customers. Even at that FG is struggling to pay Power Generation companies - as at November, FG was owing 1.6 TRILLION naira to GenCos
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/11/electricity-gencos-face-liquidity-crisis-receive-57-invoice/

If FG should deregulate the sector in it's entirety, power issues would probably be completely fixed within 4-5 years...but when you have to pay 100k monthly electric bill, can you cope?
