Well, both sides are to blame. Ire failed to do a research on the company and company culture before dressing up and coming in for documentation, after all it was not her first day at work. She didn’t have a clue as to what is acceptable dressing in the organization she was accepted in to. The HR manager would be blamed more. If I was a staff and I defaulted on dressing, I should be given a verbal or written warning as it may not warrant immediate termination.

The HR manager should have taken Ire to a small meeting room to have a brief induction on the cultures and values of the organization, then ask if the culture fits her values. At that point, you are giving Ire an option to change if she wants to continue with the recruitment or call it off if the organizational values do not align with her personal values. If Ire felt sorry for the way she dressed and promised it would never happen, then she could continue with the documentation process.

The HR was judgemental by looking at her dressing forgetting that part of being a HR professional is counseling and making people feel valued in the organization while living the values and meeting organizational goals with its PEOPLE!

If you need anyone to teach you about dress code as an adult, then all your education is pointless. Your still a baby!

she lacks personal ethics - manners, dress sense, interpersonal skills, etc ... It's not the responsibility of HR to teach that to new intakes.

I mean, who dresses like a video vixen to a corporate environment? No one would take you seriously.

It wouldn't cost the HR nothing in communicating this to her in strong terms.

Sometimes, young folks lose it. It won't take nothing from you if you correct them.

On what grounds does she want to sue? Based on promise to come pickup an offer? Or for refusing to go ahead with the offer? Or that her values don't align with theirs?
There's yet to be a contractual obligations on the part of the org.
As HR, I will advise her on what to do to 'get' the job instead of this harsh treatment.
Problem with some of us is that we don't know how to separate work life from social life.
Eg how was your night?(u b winch? Wetin consan you)
You look sexy(you wan lape her? Ofis no club)
I only have tight jeans (4 ofis? U b hukop babe?)

We must learn to separate work life from social life.

Well, it sounds straight forward until you realize that agreements can be entered by conduct (different from written) implied (different from express) etc.

While I agree that there should be alignments, on the extant matter, that lady may actually have a case, even if it turns out bad.

I am ethically trained to take up any and every case except i conscientiously believe it is against all i stand for. (The complainant or plaintiff (in a civil suit) and the accused in criminal matters have rights and the law say, ubi jus ubi remedium - where there is a right, there is a remedy) Hence I will even take a glaringly bad case and work on getting a respite even if through technicalities. So yes, I certainly will take up the case if i have to.
