"Sharper" (2023).

You can't cheat a honest man, right?

For a second, "Sharper" was giving me all i needed in a crime neo-thriller about con artistes and scammers trying to make a honest living. Fabulous mix of cast, engaging and fun story told in a non-linear manner, like peeling an onion, with each layer told in the POV of the characters, it was all going brilliantly.
Unfortunately, they dealt their trump card too early, crossing every line of logic and overdoing the concept to make it look like the biggest plot twist of all on paper, but in reality was painfully obvious and predictable.

It didn't look like a proper A24 movie, didn't have that spark and charm thier movies have become accustomed to but are you really gonna skip a movie with Julianne Moore bringing out her cougar claws akin to her Don Jon (2013) performance and Sebastien Stan, in his new menacingly dangerous persona, scamming People? I think not. These two raised the movie to a respectable B+

There is no way in hell I'm spending another week with a psychopath like that under the same roof. After knowing about her game and twarting her plans, definitely there'll be a way to nail her for something or escaping her clutches.

I don't think it's an A24 movie through and through. They probably just helped Apple TV produce the film. Just as they help Hulu with Ramy.

It's somewhat their production through and through just as it is Appletv+'s too. It's like a collabo, since they are an Indie company without a wide reach, they handled the movie's limited theatre run why Apple TV handled the VOD release. A24 seems to be doing this with thier releases recently.

I see. I didn't even know A24 was into the TV business. It's recently I also started noticing they co-produce shows with other studios. They also co-produced HBO's Euphoria, Irma Vep, upcoming "The Idol".

Anyways, we'd have to wait for "Beau is Afraid" if we're to get the unique A24 flavor. Seems they keep their in-studio brand wholly financed and distributed.

That company gats do all it can to survive. Imagine having your highest grossing film being EEAAO with $107mn on your tenth anniversary — just last year. Even defunct company Harvey Weinstein and some smaller indie studios have enjoyed far better success.

Knock At The Cabin is out. “Woke” Nairalanders who see nothing wrong with lesbian porn will come out in droves. I expect five pages of bickering. Flamemignon1, you will be needed.

Watch how the next episode of The Last Of Us won’t face the same criticism despite…

Funnily enough,I haven't seen the movie but people I know who have seen it had mixed reviews and these are all straight people but all in all,I'm skeptical about anything "Himalayan night" does especially when it comes to adaptations as I'm a huge fan of the book. If it's anything,I will go see it for Bautista,I love how he's trying to leave a mark and not be the typical typecast like some people with the initials "DJ"

As for "the last of us" episode..... it's ok to fetishize as long as they don't bash the other end of the spectrum. I mean the movie "Bros" was terrible with mostly straight women who fetishize gay porn filling up the theatre as the gays even bashed the film but you will never see these straight women come online to bash lesbian sex scenes

I always saw A24 as more about the art and less about the money as I keep forgetting that this is a business first and it's primary aim should be to make a profit. Too bad majority of the audience don't share the same sentiment when it comes to their art and I don't blame them especially in this economy, you want your money's worth as not everyone wants to go down an acid trip when you go to the movies for escapism

From the trailer and the premise, I already knew I wasn't going to watch. You were already aware that the movie was about a girl and her male parents held hostage, yet you went ahead and watched. Now you are crying "woke". What were you expecting in the first place?

Thank you for suggesting this masterpiece.

As a young movie lover, I have failed to come to terms how this movie has passed me by over the years.

Truly, Hollywood of now no too make sense like before.

Safe for MCU and DCEU movies, plus a little highly acclaimed movies, I doubt I'd break any sweat to see new ones again.

Do you have any pre-2015 movie you can suggest?

Do you have any pre-2015 movie you can suggest?

that will be tough cos i have forgotten most

Jack reacher
District 9
Jurasic park 1 & 2
Toby Maguire's Spiderman 1 and 2 (2 for me is the best spiderman ever made)
Final Fantasy vii Advent Children - Animated
Independence Day
Starship Troopers 1 and 2
Robocop 1 and 2 (2 for me is better)
Pitch Black (Riddick)
Dredd
Predator

The witcher nightmare of the wolf - Animated. (This one is 2021 though, but highly recommended)

You may have seen most of these movies before, but after watching the recent movies (That are mostly garbage) and then going back to rewatch these old movies, you will notice most of the old movies scripts were well written, with good storylines in most cases they are satires like The Starship Troopers and Robocop.
There is a lot of care in the editing and the CGIs, and above all else - A good story.

In terms of Marvel the Movies that was close to the source materials in Hollywood were Edward Norton's Incredible Hulk and Ray Stevenson's The Punisher - Warzone,
And for DC the only projects that are close to source materials were Justice League (not series), Batman under the red hood, Batman killing Joke, ALL OF THEM ANIMATION.

this was hard cos there are lot of very very good movies missing on this post.

And The Matrix was created by Trans SIsters, so yeah Trans and Gays can write good stories without shoving sexuality and identity politics down our throats, and this may sound crazy to you, but that is exactly what they audience wants - to be entertained.

Am on Chitewel Ejiofor trail, I have no problem with a 17yr old girl taking the murderous cannibals to the cleaners in a Sci-fi Action flick BECAUSE THE PLOT WAS SOLID.

Now there are other movies with the Title Serenity like 2012 it was hard to find, but you can watch Serenity

True. A24 films are more about the art... I just feel their movies deserves more financial success. Ain't surprised tho since most of their films walk in the realm of weird and extreme.
