Earlier today, a Nairaland moderator opened a thread claiming Peter Obi won 19 states plus FCT in the last presidential election. The said moderator referenced a tweet by an Obidient Twitter user, NEFERTITI aka @Firstladyship as the source of the information. The thread was quickly moved to front page despite the source being a notorious fake news merchant on Twitter.

I just checked the tweet this evening only to notice that the tweet has now been deleted by the author. Sadly, the Nairaland thread is still very active on front page spreading fake news to Nigerians. https://www.nairaland.com/7598752/peter-obi-won-19-states

My appeal is to the owner and moderators of the forum. We just finished a very close, competitive and divisive election with the outcome still being contested in court. Don’t throw the country into chaos by helping to spread fake news. Those who saw the fake news of Obi winning 19 states and FCT will start abusing our judiciary if judgement is given against Peter Obi at the tribunal. Some may even resort to violence. Is that what we want for our country?

People like this should be tracked if they are in Nigeria, dragged to the court, and allowed to defend themselves. If they are found to be guilty, they should be made to face 3month prison or fine of like 5 million.

Twiiter, Facebook, & Instagram need to also have some department specifically for Nigeria where our law enforcements can reach out for ban to such social media account just like the USA did for Huspuppy IG account.

If we don't kill this fake news menace, in 3years time, all this could lead to a full blown menace that will cause loss of life and property.
