@emmaodet

Pls, how did you dry your groundnut at this period (July) as humidity is still high and the moisture content of the nuts is likely going to be high making them to be susceptible to growing moulds causing the expelled crude vegetable oil to come out with a high FFA ( free fatty acid) and in fact, some of the nuts might start germinating again

Kindly share your experience

Thanks

Most times, my harvest is in august when we have good sun and october but notwithstanding, i do employee women to still dry for like a week in the sun.
They spread it out and monitor the weather.

Immediately you process the nuts to oil, we do dry the oil on fire to take-off any water residue and this gives the oil longer shelf life

@emmadot nice one,one challenge is not in mechanical planter, sprayer but harvesting hectares of land of groundnut is not an easy feat as laborers will dictate d fee.how you harvest- mechanised or by manual labour?

Yes bro.

Harvesting is the main challenge.
I bought a mechanized small harvester but it has not proved effective for large farms .
I plan buying a bigger one next year.

Are you into groundnut too?

Hello nairalanders,

The new planting season is here and am about trying my hands on 2 acre of groundnuts.
Fingers crossed. I'll be uploading the progress regularly to teach and be taught so lets be positive on this thread.

I am into groundnut oil production and my major challenge has been the high cost of raw materials (groundnut) which has rendered the business handicapped.
I do buy groundnuts from bida, mokwa, kano, gombe and adamawa but the cost and logistics has made me to think inward and homeward.
Cost of leasing 1 acre is #6,000
Tractor for ploughing 1 acre is #5,000 excluding fueling.
Seed - i bought improvised seed, samnut 21 and 22 (12 kg per acre each) = #9,600 for all
Other things to do -
Tractor ridging - #5,000 per acre minus fueling.
Herbicides
Planting cost
Insecticide to be sprayed immediately after flowering.
Cost of spraying insecticide.
Cost of harvesting.
Thanks and will keep you updated

According to the manufacturer, it can do 200kg per hour but from personal use, I think it can only do 100kg per hour cold milling but should be able to meet up 200kg hot press and Yes, it was very hard on me closing it down because it was more or less part of me.
I invested a lot into it - millions of naira, time, energy and efforts but I had to face reality and leave emotions alone else will sleep into sunk cost fallacy.
Yes, you can dm me
