to a large extent, it goes a long way in influencing even ones mentality. There are some Mental Pictures you need to create before it metamorphoses into reality; so if you are not from a Wealthy class or stay among the rich, it may be difficult to create some mental pictures.

The only solution to breaking the wheels of penury is to make alot friends, work on your communication and problem solving skills. The journey is a different battle if you came from a "humble Background"

Seyi tinubu is already successful and famous and doing well, all thanks to his father Bola tinubu and understandably, tinubu himself also had a rich parent and studied in the US and With the western exposure they come back home and do great things, Obaseki of Edo state, Femi otedola's father was a governor of Lagos state, I can go on and on.
Your background and the environment you grew up in either impacts your life positively, or negatively, and could determine your future. But only if you allow it to. From the experiences of many, a humble upbringing, absence of one parent or lack of education does not mean that your future is doomed.

In secondary school, I cleared bush for stipends and did assignments for my classmates for a fee, helped people copy notes.

I have never been out of cash no matter how small. If I have zero today, I will go outside and come back with 500-1000 to survive that day. This literally happened and my guy said "you be like person papa" and I was only 19.

My start up capital was 5000 in 2012 which was my monthly allawee as a student and it has grown tremendously since then. I had no help from ANYONE. It was just me and my God.

Some people consider me very rich.

I would never know how far I'd have gone if I was born into wealth but one thing I know is that I'm not as ambitious as I was. I seem to have reached complacency and contentment. Maybe poverty was my motivation.

You cannot blame fathers from the 60's to 90s alone, the people of this generation are as much to blame. We have a herd and zombie mentality in Africa, when it comes to marriage, children, japa and other things.

Critical and independent thinking are not common in our DNA - we are quick to do things because it is expected of us, people just do what is expected of them without thinking it through. - True. Many examples abound.
Had a family friend that was warned against marrying immediately after NYSC without a job but he wouldn't listen. He doesn't want to lose his heartthrob and after so many back and forths and threatening everyone, he was left to his faith.
Married and has given birth to 2 kids in one room. Always calling and begging for money. The wife sef don show am shege when love has disappeared in the face of poverty.
I have blocked him on my phone due to incessant begging. When people are making mistakes and we try to correct, they try to shut us up with mind-your-business mantra. We say this not because we hate them rather their decision making will one way or the other affects us in future and that is what i hate about poor people who don't plan.
They give birth to children that will be thieves and armed robbers tomorrow terrorizing the streets and disturbing the ones that are just managing their lives. Some will turn to junkies selling drugs to boys on the street and their girls will turn to street hookers etc.

Salary may not be within their control but is child birth also out of their control? - Exactly. They don't have any excuses and it is still this poor decision making affecting their lives they will take to polling unit en-masses and again vote the wrong candidates. Their decision making will always reflect in other areas of their lives.

People don't take the time to find themselves, figure out how they want to live or figure out what is important to them in life, they just run with the herd. The best decisions I have made in my life, are decisions I thought through, decisions that I didn't allow others overly influence. I typically went in the direction that people said I shouldn't go and I am better for it. - Again. i agree with you

Just like there are many who are rich from rich family backgrounds there are many from poor backgrounds who became rich.

infact some who parents are rich may have had poor grandparents and the story changed at some point...

Everybody once had a source or links of humble begins. it took sm1 in the family line to change it.

It is like compound interest. When the first family is established, invariably, successive generations would become more established and even wealthy. Na part of the reasons some African Americans say the success of Nigerian-Americans should not be used to judge the success of black people in the US because those Nigerians by virtue of going through the US immigration system, are the best and brightest from Nigeria. The same would play out in Canada compared to blacks who have been domiciled there for many generations.

It is usually hard for the first generation and maybe second. A lot of sacrifices and delayed gratification have to be made. One major way is to have few children instead of many children. That way, little resources can be managed for the benefit of everyone. Another is delayed gratification. The first generation should postpone some purchases and expenses so that their offsprings' education can be catered for properly. Education still remains the surest way to a middle class lifestyle in a country where things work and the economy is pretty good. Buhari and his cohorts have severely destroyed the Nigerian economy. Also, insecurity has rendered many people poorer than before.

In developed countries, especially those who got developed and prosperous within a short period of time, parents pay very close attention to their children's education and development. This applies to Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, China, South Korea etc. For instance, Chinese who migrated to the west during the '80s and '90s faced many challenges, but they persevered and were focused. Today, their children are reaping the fruits of their parents' labour and enjoying life. At the same time, it is very important for the first and second generations to discipline themselves not to be wayward. Again, these Asians know it so well, and very few are wayward compared to other races. Waywardness can destroy everything the previous generation built. To build is hard, to destroy is easy.

With the Internet comes easy access to information, however, this means greater and stiffer competition for scarce resources. People from less financially comfortable backgrounds should be properly and timely informed, plan their lives well and play delayed gratification. It is hard at first (nothing good comes easy), but it pays in the long run.

The bolded are very dangerous feelings to have as an entrepreneur,snap out of it ASAP if you can.
I felt same way too some years back and it took bailouts upon bailouts from my mother to get me back on track.
Be very careful with content ,because what follows will be "relax" and then you start to get sloppy,you stop paying attention and then you'll find yourself on the ground.
I am still feeling this way again but I fight it by heaping huge responsibilities and setting higher targets on my enterprise and my team,adding businesses to it steadily so that it keeps me and the team on our toes and increase our obligations and hence increase our hunger.

Some guys out there will tell you they're into business; all kind of business. But there are things that I've clearly seen: is that some of them opt in into fraud the begining and then divert the money to set up businesses!
These I've seen a lot.

Ask yourself are they not diligent enough ?
Why do they need to go into fraud first.
Some will tell you I've an idea,but no money and nobody's ready to give you a dime.

Hence, they think the best way to get funds is to go into fraud and start up their business be it music, tech and the likes.

You can't be drinking Garri and you expect to think outside the box.

I began to see recently that there are some prayers that will be useless in developed countries.

How can a Nigerian be praying to get Job after school?
Once you've your certificate shouldn't you get a reasonable job?
If there's a working System.
This tell us that we've a bad system.
People praying for their businesses, admissions and all kinds.

Most pains, ignominy, depression, frustration would've been minimal if you're from a rich background and have a working System.

But with respect to all these, even if there's a working System and a rich background, some people will still find 101 reasons why things won't work out for them.



I've a business idea to set up a cyber café but there's no capital.
Because getting a job as a graduate in this place: is like a Carmel going through an eye of a needle.

To survive here, isn't easy especially as a graduate.

1. The moment you start to throw God's mention into these debates, know that you are no longer applying commonsense but instead trying to use God as an excuse for what isn't.

God isn't the reason these men rise. Instead, they happened to position themselves in a situation that led to the opportunity they eventually used to their advantage. You do not sit back with arms folded expecting that opportunity would come to you where you sit. You do work in order to pave the way for it to find you.

Indeed, no one is hopeless but God isn't the one who does these things. Go to the abroad countries to see this for your own self.
