Don't we have Ibos in Delta? A lot of them. Have they been profiled? Each election cycle, they have a candidate they support for known reasons and out of personal interest. Despite their considerable numbers, I have never seen an Itsekiri or Urhobo man profile them. Earn their support rather than forcing them to vote for you. You cuss at them, burn their markets and you expect them to vote for you.

Why do the Yorubas always turn elections into Ibo vs. Yoruba battles? This election was even worse. Profiling has now been added. This is how xenophobia got its start in South Africa.

What you have not considered.

Those societies already have internal integration such that they are not ethnically tied to specific regions of their countries. Hence any one can contest from any region of their own country as long as they reside there. Example is USA.

So it is equally easy for immigrants to do the same.

Here in the developing democracies, our tribes have not even achieved internal harmony, but some want to achieve external harmony.

Case in point, the Igbos of SouthEast are so clanish in their social structure, that an Mbaise man from Imo cannot achieve political position in Nnewi in Anambra, and vice versa.

In Rivers, they backed Wike in his fight with an Amaechi. I haven't heard of any instances where Amaechi attempted to inflame tribalism by making Wike appear to be an Ibo candidate. Ibos move your PVC to your hometown; politics is local, decide your leaders, don’t decide for others. Invest money in your home state. Stay away from getting too comfortable. Never behave like the Hebrews did in Egypt. Don’t be too comfortable!

Quit agitating. Build your home. Make ndigibo a better place by following the example of the Unity that allowed you to rise above the civil war. And if, after building a home, you decide to become a nation, if you are all ready. Choose lawmakers who support the proposed changes. Nigerians who have been in a place for a long time have a tendency to dominate and appear loud. Yorubas are so prevalent in Peckham that there are even Yoruba unions, churches, and mosques there. And local establishments owned by the Yoruba people. Even in the streets, Yoruba is spoken. You might even believe you were in Lagos. I've never once heard the Anglo-Saxon profile them and say “You want to take over our land” with all the yorubaness everywhere ; And in Italy has a street named for the Binis. In some places, there are strong fraternities.

Your long-term residence naturally becomes your home. You often grow emotionally attached to that place.
