If you look at the voting data from the south west, the votes were divided amongst the 3 front runners, same for the North East, North Central, North West. It is pertinent to also note that all the numbers Tinubu was able to garner in the north, even in states where he was not the winner is what guaranteed his victory.

In the south west Atiku won in Osun, Labour won in Lagos and in the south west states of Ondo, Ekiti and Ogun where both PDP and Labour party did not win they had significant number of votes, same can not be said of the south east.


That's how it played out and any sane person who wants to be honest and analyse with data rather than emotions and sentiments can not conclude that the Yorubas were tribalistic with how they voted.

When it comes to tribalism in this election, I think anyone who looks closely at the data would know where to point accusing fingers and would also know that the failure of this block in this election and in many others in the past is their failure to understand that alliance and networks with the voting blocks with huge numbers is what guarantees electoral victory in Nigeria's presidential election.

Rather than tow this line they are always in the habit of denigrating the Yorubas with despicable words, just because the Yorubas always align with the North in General Elections. Politics and electioneering is a game of numbers. In the gubernatorial election in Kano, close to 2million votes were recorded. What was the total votes of the South East in the presidential election.


I think more than ever before, this election has shown that whoever wants to become the president of Nigeria does not really need to bother too much about the south east, especially with the way they voted in this election. If such a person can win significant number of states in the South South, south west and an appreciable number in the North.
