just watched this trailer...

It's no surprise the movie has started flopping...

There is no reason to get invested or care about it since a reboot has been announced

There is no over-arching plot or anything to get people emotionally invested in the story or characters

The trailer sef is just visuals...style without substance
No matter how many epic action sequences you show in a trailer, if people have no reason to be invested, it will fall flat

THE HATEFUL EIGHT 7.5/10

This is a typical Quentin Tarantino movie and those of us who are familiar with his works would know that he likes his movies with long conversations and slow build ups. This hateful eight is not an exception.

This movie is set in the “old America” when America still had a bit of Babarism as it’s usually portrayed in Western movies(I don’t know how accurate these movies are).

The hateful eight follows the story of a bounty hunter who catches a wanted murderer and has to transport her to the town where she would be hanged. A very serious snow storm happens on the way which leads to him coming across two men who became stranded due to the storm. He had to help these men by accommodating them in his private carriage. The storm eventually forces them to take accommodation in an inn and things went berserk from there.

As to be expected from a Tarantino movie, there’s sort of a flashback(not exactly a flashback Per se, but I can’t find the exact word to use) moment in the movie and this moment makes certain things clearer to the viewers. Tarantino always seems to use this technique.

The movie stars Samuel L Jackson, Tim Roth(who I thought was trying to act like Christopher Waltz from Django unchained), Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kurt Russel and a host of other actors. The acting was very good and the conversations funny (I don’t know why I find conversations from western movies very funny. The accent used are always amusing to me even when the actors are not saying anything particularly funny).

This movie is not for everyone. If you like movies with long conversations and a slow build up, then this is a movie I would recommend to you.

PS:I have realized that the settings of Quentin Terantino movies are usually within short time spans. A day or two or a week.

Shazam- Fury Of The Gods. 7.5/10.

A fun movie. It did not take itself seriously. The main character played by Zachary Levi was funny. Many of the jokes in the movie landed.

The action scenes were cool- almost as colourful as Dr Strange MOM.

It's a simple happy movie. B+

Avatar: TWOW is getting a digital release upper Tuesday. By Wednesday, broke Nairalanders will finally watch it and call it trash. It will be the first 4K download I’ll ever get.

Una wey watch Snydercut try. One hour thirty minutes in, I lost interest. What’s the point of watching an extended version of the commercial release? It’s not like it was two and a half hours which I could power through. Tufia!

Looper declared it an official box office bomb yesterday. But hey let's all keep quiet about it. It's not even on Ant-Man 3's level financially. 😂

Is there still any original idea in any industry

No matter what you think of, someone has done it...at least to an extent...

It's funny you say this about Nollywood when Hollywood relies mostly on re-using storylines and ideas...
That is why there are a million reboots of old franchises

Hollywood doesn't do anything original anymore

when it comes to originality, give it to the Indians, French, Mexicans, Asians and British. Do you know death at the funeral was copied from Britishwood?

Let me mention some original, high concept movies with original ideas-

Inception- 2010
Tenet- 2020
Predestination

Nollywood is 90% drama/romance. What space is there for original ideas in such a limited genre for producers?

I don't know about how original the plot of these movies are...
But I know Inception copied some of its scenes from different movies...e.g Paprika

That Paprika-Inception link is a myth. They are very different in plot.

I'm not talking of plot...

Inception clearly borrowed elements from Paprika

Even when it comes to scenes, some scenes were copied almost frame by frame

Lies.

Paprika has not even one similar scene to inception. This is an animation that has nightmarish scenes and you are comparing it with an action sci-fi movie.
