Seun:
Dear Igbo People,

I sincerely apologize for allowing a toxic political banner advert which said, "Lagos can never be run from Anambra; go and vote" to run on Nairaland for several hours on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

The mischievously worded banner advert appears to have been part of an ethnically divisive political campaign aimed at securing Lagos State for the ruling party by instilling fear in Yoruba people, making them believe that Igbo people intended to "take over" Lagos State.

Such ethnically divisive political campaigns have no place in a forward-thinking democracy, and for this reason, the ad should have been taken down instantly. No harm was intended, but my lack of forethought about the ethics of that type of advert led to a disappointing outcome.

We should have had a clear policy against accepting negative and ethnically divisive ads on Nairaland, we should have communicated it to all advertisers, and we should have taken down any advert that violated that policy instantly. This will all be in place before the next election.

We made almost N16,000 from the ad. We will double it and donate it to victims of political violence in Lagos.

Please, do NOT give up on Nigeria. The times are challenging, but TOGETHER, we will overcome.

Sincerely,
Seun Osewa.

Boy! You have zero integrity now. I kinda feel you are still in your 20's but I'm likely very wrong on this. My reason for saying this: "You panicked when in the throes of the election frenzy you dug low, violated the very principle of neutrality for which I have defended you on this platform". It's a shame though. No need mollycoddling this, you need some growing up to do. You feared Igbo's would take Lagos, conquer Yoruba land and Lord over y'all as some lowlife sleazeballs purveyed. Boy, I suspect you are surrounded by a circle of mentally, intellectually and psychologically deficient people. Who have you been talking to? Start looking up people like Ben Shapiro, John Lennox, Jordan Peterson, Thomas Sowell and other political/social analysts. Listen to their podcasts and learn a lot about logic and how to have a good debate with people and even yourself.
Furthermore, I gleaned from this platform some years ago that you are somewhat an atheist or at least agnostic. I wanna ask you, from your action, do you think that ultimately, there exists an objective moral value in atheism? Think about it, I mean, you lost it when you felt your tribe was being emasculated. Quit the apology farcade, you should be apologizing for pillorying a whole tribe. At least like David Hundeyin claims, it feels so good that y'all have exposed your Yoruba ethno-racist tendencies. I beg the pardon of the genuinely objective folks amongst your people. So much about the accommodators. At least, we can say your virtue signalling about being the most accommodating tribe in Nigeria has been sacrificed on the altar of political jingoism.

I will end this with a quote from Jesus Christ in Mathew 12:46-50:

46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

He literally meant that. If you haven't come to that point in your life where you can abandon your folks for the right purpose, you ain't started. That is the philosophy of Christ.

Philippians 2:5
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:

Your platform has given birth to hate and tribalism in beast mood. Use that money to sanitize your platform. Your platform is where the hate between Ibos and Yorubas started.

From biblical angle, it is wrong, cos somewhere in the bilble says .. pride cometh before falll
and another part says, God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble

Bragging, pompousity pride is not the same as self esteem, confidence or being positive about oneself

When you stand tall, people will see you without you advertising.

I just think its time Igbos start doing things differently esp. in politics

Lmao
Sorry for laughing
But using the bible as an explanation is verrrrrrryyy funny.

Can an Ebonyi man call Anambra no man's land?
Can an Imo man go to Anambra and tell them he has a candidate for them that they should vote?
Currently, Nsukka and Nkanu people both in Enugu are fighting over this election.

Lagos is not no man's land. Your doubt has been cleared.

If I were Seun, I would just withdraw this my apology from these ingrate migrants that are developing every "no man's land" in the world, but couldn't develop their region. Seun is a bonafide owner of this nairaland. if you ingrates are not contented with his view and decision on volatile issue like this, the door of the nearest transformer to you is opened, you are free to hug it please. What an arrant nonsense!

Well done, Seun. I am Igbo and I voted SanwoOlu (APC) because he performed well in his first term. But I can bet my balls you can never vote an Igbo man no matter how good he is.
I would have voted for Peter Obi & GRV, if I had a PVC and lived in Lagos State. Just to send a message to APC that they need to give us their best. I would not have been upset by GRV's loss because of his sparse CV. My vote for GRV would have been a protest vote against APC.

Just like many of the Yoruba votes for Obi in Lagos during the presidential election were protest votes by the evangelicals against the Muslim Muslim ticket. Nothing in it.
That's why many Yorubas this time around didn't vote for Chiedu.

With the way they're treated in yorubaland and on nairaland, which is owned by a Yoruba man you would think they would have left Lagos in droves since and would also have found an alternative to nairaland. They're chained to anything Yoruba. Even I a Yoruba man fail to understand the attraction.

If that were the only problem on this forum I’d be like “No problem apology accepted”. We all make mistakes and no one should be denied redemption if they seek it.

But seun that ad is the least and I mean the very least of the problems you’ve allowed flourish on this forum. I didn’t even see the ad and I’ve been knowing what issues this forum faces.

You allow things that draw traffic to go to front page. And in a country like Nigeria where a lot of bigotry is common, your high traffic areas are ethnic bigotry, misogyny and other phobias. That’s what consistently makes the front page on your forum because that’s where the money lies.

You may not be biased at heart, but you profit from those biases.

I know someone will hit the bullseye with their submission. this touches all the right notes. Pardon the quote, I did it for emphasis sake so the owner has another chance not to miss your home truths.

@Seun, the big questions are:

Are you really bothered enough about the promotion of ethnoreligious divisions on your forum?

Are you really ready to do what it takes to position this forum as a platform for civilize discuss?

And most importantly, are you willing to do whatever it takes? Especially after reading what this poster said above with emphasis on the bolded?

Needless to say, there's only one solution. BANS. Two weeks? Two months? Lifetime? You decide. As long as they are enforced with reckless abandon.

Because the platform is very heavily infested with division champions, you will start seeing a much saner and civil place in less than a month.

The tribal antagonists are quite many, but they are few compared to those they antagonize and provoke. GO FOR THOSE ONES FIRST!
