Second is that the tool was never designed to be used for academic or professional research as it has no reference nor the source original. So this thereby doubles the work of then looking for the material it source, yet the plagiarism is high.

The third which I will rap up to another day is that it is not designed to be perfect many research works are often specific and this tool is just not going to understand that. I could remember asking it obvious details about the CEO of OpenAI the company that designed it and missing it. So relying on such for your academic research can be a disaster, and finally, remember the model it is working with is not updated so you want to desist from using such tools and rather do it yourself or consult a professional.

In conclusion, I am not de-selling the efficacy of the tools. I think it is really powerful and can have a lot of impacts but just trying to enlight you that this generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) with the limited response should not replace during proper research if you want to contribute to the tree of knowledge in your discipline

International institutions have tools for tracking your research sources....You will want to be careful when you use it. Unfortunately our lecturers in Nigeria will only ask you where your sources are without having the right tools for investigation.

If you doing postgraduate thesis in medical and laboratory-based disciplines, where you buy reagents, kits, do proper laboratory work and assay your results, under the supervision of your Professor who will also be in the lab with you, then ChatGPT can't help you.

It may also help you with your Introduction and Literature Review but your methodology, which is the core of the your work and which leads to the results you are presenting, it will fail you there.

But kindly note that the performance of this AI System depends on:

1. The version you deploy.

2. The specific prompts you have added to what you have requested for.


For instance ChatGPT 4 (paid version) is way better than the free version. Using the free version at times, it will get stuck while composing a response. Yes. It will just get stuck mid composition. And it is typically a bit repetitive when providing answers. At times it picks irrelevant perspectives and tries for force them to apply to what you searched. Even when those perspectives have nothing to do with one another.

Secondly. I can inform the system to change details of the response to a particular request by simply adding one or two prompt words. Take for instance:

a. “Write a top-notch PHD Proposal on the topic….”

Or

b. “Write a top-notch Harvard Style PhD Proposal and include academic references on the topic……”

Prompts like the above will yield various quality of details and eventual results.

I realized recently that the academia is visibly angry and apprehensive about the possibilities of AI in the academic world or learning, research, contributing to knowledge and improvement of life. The academia is very wrong because they have cunningly only focused on criticizing the limitations of this AI tool. The academia must “have sense” that AI is also ML. It will continuously improve until it gets as good as humans. What about its merits? Why arent they focused on it? Why are they concerned only with the fact that students will become lazy? Why not create rules of use and create methods for ensuring that such AI tools add the necessary value into making research fun and unnecessary stress free? And Why call it a bad name just to hang it?!

AI has come to stay, and stay it would. It will only get better. If humans during normal research exercises can also legally copy and quote ideas and information from journals and books etc and call it “properly referencing your sources”, then AI can also be trained and improved to do so just as humans do. In fact quicker and more effectively.

ChatGP/OpenAI gives me broad information on a subject. It is to me a better version of a Google Search as it doesn’t just throw search results at me to just rummage through, but it organizes them for me to make better sense of the information out there on a particular query.
And why do we call it Laziness?

After-all, We can as well call driving Laziness and call trekking for hours and miles as being hard working. Why must we accept that something must be stressful for it to be valuable ? This is old and archaic dogma and mentality.

It also takes away guesswork that is done when a person inserts a Search query into a Google search bar.

Of course, it cannot be used for research purposes and that is because, CGPT does not dig up information from thin air, it can only serve data based on already existing data.

Its Generative feature, which makes it look as though it is interacting how humans interact with each other is because it learns new 'Chat' or interactive patterns.

So If you use this AI tool for research purposes, what do expect it to print out?

Bro...Chatgpt should relied upon as a tool and not replace what's to be done for you.

It gives you an idea on what to write. You combine it with traditional research methods and procedures and you're good to go.

Before submitting your work, always check for plagiarism or outrightly paraphrase the contents generated from CHATGPT and verify the references. It's a sure thing.

It's not meant to be copy and paste.

Just twenty years ago, there were no phones with inbuilt cameras, radios, torchlight, gps systems, audio and video players etc. Technology keeps advancing. ChatGPT will be redundant within the next 20 years because more awesome inventions would have been made.
