Can you expantiate more on that "fought with GOD". Because if we are to view it in context, there's no way a person can fight with God. And if there's a deeper meaning to that, can you share?

1. This is why I said it is important to pay attention to context in all situations. Unlike his father Issac who grew up following God's way, Jacob was not reported to have grown up as one who sought after God, this before the encounter with the man/angel. So, "fought with God" could be in reference to Jacob resisting God until then. Or it could be in reference to Jacob stealing his brother's birthright. I am not certain at this time as I have yet to investigate that for myself. undecided

MaDaRa01:
I have read the Bible times over again, and it ir teemed with contradictions and thus, couldn’t possibly have been divinely inspired, AKA the infallible words of a perfect God that was dictated to human transcribers.

Here are 30 pair of verses that are completely incompatible:

1.And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against
the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. —Luke 12:10

Contradicts: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
—Romans 10:13

I used to ponder over those two, because if you commit a sin that can never be forgiven, you burn in the Lake of Fire forever —no turning back. So what
would happen if i call upon the name of the lord to be saved? These two verses can’t be simultaneously
true. They cancel out one another.

2. Another thing that made no sense was the whole Old Testament/New Testament conundrum. God actually changes
his mind? In Leviticus, God lays down a bunch of laws and calls them “everlasting.” Then in the New Testament, we suddenly hear this:
For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a
second. —Hebrews 8:7
So God made a deal with the Hebrews that had faults in it?
So God is imperfect? It doesn’t compute.

Typing......
i will take time and reply you bro

Sin against the Holy Spirit is speaking against the fine WORKS of God's Holy Spirit.

You can't call upon the name of God because you can't see God it's the fine WORKS of Holy Spirit that you will see before you can believe (trust) in God then it's after believing that you can think of calling upon the name of the person you can't see.

So those verses never contradict each other it's you who didn't understand the two!

Psalm 25:14
The secret of the Lord is for those who fear Him,
And He will make them know His covenant.

So any one who is not able to understand and decode the Bible's Secrets, is one who does not want God, for there is no contradiction for I have tackled many here and even in this thread and no one could answer after I replied them.

Thus, your lack of understanding the Bible is simply because God has not given it to you.

When they were reporting the accident did you not find the that all the reports were True when you brought reporters together to reconcile the story?

And then you find that all of them were reporting from what they saw at that time.

Even in your family issue you have seen how the witnesses saw different things that were there.

1. 2. God didn't write any of the books in your Bible. They were instead all written by men who were inspired to write of their experiences. The only Truth in those books worth investing one's trust in are the Words declared of God Himself and His Mandate is that those who will listen to Him obey Him. undecided

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

■ Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Once you abandon context, you almost always look the meaning in what is being said. undecided

1. In his epistle, James made it clear that the context of his writing was the Kingdom of God in which He declared that God has no need to tempt any man since God's intention made clear by Jesus Christ is the salvation of sinners, and not their condemnation. So the example with Abraham and God's test to reveal His own Faithfulness through the testing of Abraham is removed from what James wrote of.. undecided

2. This is also not a contradiction given that God made clear in Ezekiel 18 beginning from verse 1 that His intention was to overturn a previous commandment He had given by which He swore by His own name in order to do this. undecided

■. The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and
the third part of trees was burnt up, and
all green grass was burnt up. —Revelation 8:7.
b. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any
green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. —Revelation 9:4
■ For by grace are ye saved through faith…
not of works. —
Ephesians 2:8,9
b. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. —James 2:24

■1. For I am the Lord; I change not. —Malachi 3:6
b. And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. —Exodus 32:14
The same way you cannot read any other text without paying careful attention to context is the same way you must not read even the books in your Bible without paying careful attention to context. undecided

1. The events recorded in Revelations 8 are obviously not the same recorded in Revelations 9. These aren't contradictions in any term. Read through each chapter to see this. undecided

2. In the context that is Jesus Christ, there are two Salvations one must obtain in order to obtain the reward of Heaven at the end.
■ Salvation from Death --- the condemnation of sin: This Salvation one obtains when one becomes born-again .i.e enters into the Kingdom of God when one is gifted with Eternal life aka grace - John 3 vs 1 - 36. undecided
■ Salvation from sin is the second salvation and this is only obtained by those who after receiving the first salvation stand faithful-- in continuous submission(Trust) and obedience(works) of the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ --- until the end - Matthew 10 vs 22 & Matthew 24 vs 12 - 13 & Mark 13 vs 13.. It is only those who do the good works that Jesus Christ Himself said those who do as He commands will do - John 14 vs 1 - 12 - will make it. undecided

So, again, it is pivotal to understand the Gospel message as taught by Jesus Christ to decipher the views expressed by the apostles in their letters. undecided

3. Just because a person experiences emotional highs and lows does not mean that person has changed, does it? God repented from destroying the people at that point in time does not mean He changed His mind entirely about destroying them because He did eventually do it for their sins. undecided

Lol, yeah.
The fact is there are too many contradictions in the Bible and having to go into entymology in other to prove otherwise in itself tends to imply that what you're defending is not so straightforward.
Did God tempt Abraham or not? Did the Bible also say that God does not tempt or not? Having to understand the reasons (or context, as you chose to call it) for a contradiction does not negate the fact that there's a contradiction in the first place. Neither does it imply in any way that there's a reduction in belief by the person who's asking questions.
The Bible boldly claims that God changeth not. Meaning that he does not have a change of heart. But this is not always so as His actions are clearly tailored towards the actions of man. If a man changes his ways, God will embrace him. If he remains in sin, God will not behold his iniquity, meaning he will be set aside until he repents.

1. I did none of what you claim. Rather, I simply consider the context in which the author of the letter of James presented his claims to his audience to the context of the other to arrive at the fact that, indeed, they aren't contradictory statements in any way or form. undecided

2. Yes, God tempted Abraham, but no, the Bible never said anything because the Bible is an inanimate collection of books. Instead, the author of the epistle by James is the one who asserted, in the context of the Kingdom of God — his letter was directed at an audience of believers in Jesus Christ - James 1 vs 1 — stated that God does not in fact tempt people. And this message of his is in compliance with that stated by Jesus Christ regarding His mission as God in His Kingdom of God - John 3 vs 17. undecided

3. I am not stating that you should not ask questions or point out the actual contradictions in scripture. What I am instead saying is that you carefully examine scripture in order that you do not introduce a lie where there is none to be had. undecided

4. Really? Where in scripture is this meaning you assert extracted from? Kindly indicate a reference so we can explore this meaning you give here abeg! undecided

5. So this meaning you proclaimed earlier does not in fact hold as far as God is concerned then? undecided

7. For I have seen God face to face. -Genesis 32:30.

b.No man hath seen God at any time. —John 1:18
8. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. —Romans 3:23.
b. There was a man…who name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright. —Job 1:1
What Paul wrote in Romans 3 was not in reference to all humans but instead to the evil people, fools who reject God. This you can easily discover by researching the source of his many statements which are culled from various places in scripture.

■Beginning in Romans 3 vs 10 - 18, Paul quotes from various parts of scripture in his attempt to explain to his brethren that they were in fact the wicked and evil generation to the destroyed by God. Yes, at that point in time, God's plan was to destroy the rest of Israel — the Nation of Judah aka the Jews— and that plan was heralded by the coming of Jesus Christ. Below, we see that what Paul wrote in that passage was of the evil people who were against God.

■ Romans 3 vs 10 - 12 quotes Psalm 53 where David writes about the evil people who do terrible things.
1 Only fools think there is no God. People like that are evil and do terrible things. They never do what is right.
2 God looks down from heaven to see if there is anyone who is wise, anyone who looks to him for help.
3 But everyone has turned away from him. Everyone has become evil. No one does anything good. No, not one person!
4 Those who are evil treat my people like bread to be eaten. And they never ask for God’s help. Don’t they understand what they are doing? - Psalm 53 vs 1 - 3
The above passage clearly says that this prophecy was said of the evil people aka the fools who convinced themselves that God does not exist. You know this from reading verse 4 where God highlights the way evil people treat His people. undecided
■ Romans 3 vs 13 a Paul references David's prayer against his enemies found in Psalm 5
8 Lord, show me your right way of living and make it easy for me to follow. People are looking for my weaknesses, so show me how you want me to live.
9 My enemies never tell the truth. They only want to destroy people. Their words come from mouths that are like open graves. They use their lying tongues to deceive others.[a]
10 Punish them, God! Let them be caught in their own traps. They have turned against you, so punish them for their many crimes. - Psalm 5 vs 8 - 10
■ Romans 3 vs 13 b quotes from Psalm 140 where David prays to God regarding the evil people
1 Lord, save me from people who are evil. Protect me from those who are cruel,
2 from those who plan to do evil and always cause trouble.
3 Their words are as harmful as the fangs of a snake, as deadly as its venom. Selah
4 Lord, save me from the wicked! Protect me from these cruel people who plan to hurt me.
5 These proud people are trying to trap me. They spread nets to catch me; they set traps in my path. Selah - Psalm 140 vs 1 - 5
■ Romans 13 vs 15 quotes from Proverbs 1 which is a warning against evil people
10 My son, those who love to do wrong will try to trick you. Don’t listen to them.
11 They will say, “Come with us. Let’s hide and beat to death anyone who happens to walk by.
12 We will swallow them whole, as the grave swallows the dying.
13 We will take everything they have and fill our houses with stolen goods.
14 So join us, and you can share everything we get.”
15 My son, don’t follow them. Don’t even take the first step along that path.
16 They run to do something evil, and they cannot wait to kill someone. - Proverbs 1 vs 10 - 15
■ Romans 13 vs 16 - 17 references Isaiah's writing on the state of the evil people, whose sins separate them from God
1 Look, the Lord’s power is enough to save you. He can hear you when you ask him for help.
2 It is your sins that separate you from your God. He turns away from you when he sees them.
3 That’s because your hands are covered with blood from the people you murdered. You tell lies and say evil things.
4 You can’t be trusted, even in court. You lie about each other and depend on false arguments to win your cases. You create pain and produce wickedness.
5 You hatch evil, like eggs from a poisonous snake. Anyone who eats the eggs will die. And if you break one of them open, a poisonous snake will come out. Your lies are like spider webs.
6 They cannot be used for clothes, and you cannot cover yourself with them. Your hands are always busy sinning and hurting others.
7 Your feet run toward evil. You are always ready to kill innocent people. You think of nothing but evil. Everywhere you go you cause trouble and ruin.
8 You don’t know how to live in peace. You don’t do what is right and fair. You are crooked, and anyone who lives like that will never know true peace. - Isaiah 59 vs 1 - 8
■ Romans 13 vs 18 references Psalm 18 where David writes of the evil people and the workings of their minds.
1 Deep in the hearts of the wicked a voice tells them to do wrong. They have no respect for God.
2 They lie to themselves. They don’t see their own faults, so they are not sorry for what they do.
3 Their words are wicked lies. They have stopped doing anything wise or good.
4 They make wicked plans in bed at night. They choose a way of life that does no good. And they never say no to anything evil. - Psalm 36 vs 1 - 4
As you can see, every single passage of Scripture that was quoted by Paul in that context was written in reference to people who do evil — the unrighteous. And of course, there are none righteous among the evil people for they have all sinned. undecided
