A very bad miscalculation by the Saudi's Arabic's, now Biden will understand who his really enemies are, it's not only Putin's, but others are hiding. The worse part of it is that USA want to start replenish it reserves of oil. Is like you have to spend more, to get a reserve, indeed the Ukraine and Russia war, American are paying for it. And this might just affect Biden reelection. Well, let Biden deploy diplomatic tactics, to softening the process. If no be Nigeria, this is our time to increase oil out, and make more money like MAGA. |

God1000:Placing sanction on Saudi Arabia would seem like putting the nail on the confin after the death of the US petrol Dollar. U.S can NEVER, I repeat "NEVER" sanction Saudi Arabia. Even China, U S can never sanction China like it did Russia because China holds most of U.S Treasury bonds. Any sanction on those two countries would kill the U.S Dollar and the ripple effect will hit the U.S economy like a disaster. |

BidenDTrounced:Dollar cannot be dethroned. At least not in the nearest future, no other currency can shoulder that responsibility. All these BRICS currency swap is just academy at best. It can't dent the might of the dollar. For a currency to be a global currency, there should be more of it in circulation outside her nominated country than inside. Now the consequence is that the holding nation must run a current account deficit. That's the only way the rest of us can have sufficient amount of it. China will never allow a trade deficit or a budget deficit. China do not intend the yuan to be traded btw 2 other nations like the dollar. All reminbi must end up in China under a tightly regulated currency control. No other country has a big economy to even be considered. euro could have been an option but the world will simply end up becoming slave to Germany as the rest of Europe. And with all the financial trouble in EU, euro isn't viable to be used outside of the zone. It will quickly run into problem. Even India had told russia they will only pay for oil in dollar after the Indians discovered the rubble-ruppee swap deal was making the ruppee lose value against other currency. What else will Russia buy from india in terms of trade...not much. Thus a lot of ruppee had to go into buying few rubbles to ensure Russia isn't selling her gas cheap. Leave all these political talk, they carry no weight. Economic pragmatism is different and it shows dollar will remain king for a long time. Even China will abandon BRICS if it pushes yuan where it shouldn't be |

God1000:Biden should place sanctions on Saudi Arabia? Lol. Some of you actually think the dynamics of the real world are like the rubbish you watch on TV. You just wake up and give too much relevance to the United States as if the entire world revolves around that gay country. Oga, do yourself good and read wider as regards world politics. The US is no longer as respected and feared as it used to be. Them no born Biden well to place sanctions on Saudi Arabia, with the mess they've currently created in Ukraine. As it stands, China, India and Russia are just standing hands akimbo, smiling and waiting for the US to make one wrong move. Just one. And the US knows they cannot afford to make an enemy of one more powerful nation. Una go just wake up dey talk nonsense for nairaland.. ! Mtscheew. |

God1000:oil is energy, energy is a power tool in modern politics. Besides, the lower the supply the high the price which means more money for oil Opec countries. Unfortunately, Nigeria is a failed state. Nigeria should have been racking billions of dollars like other Opec countries. U.S can do little or nothing about oil cuts. U.S is not an Opec member and can't control Opec. |

Hmmmm thanks for the response. But what about now that some OPEC+ countries like Russia are no longer exchanging oil with USD $? Wouldn't this reduce the value of the dollar? Dennisbulkan: |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEwdEWneTis Saudi Arabia Sells Oil to Kenya in Kenyan Shillings instead of US Dollar Kenya will buy oil from Saudi Arabia in Kenyan shillings instead of US dollars, according to a fuel import agreement signed by Kenyan President William Ruto and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. According to Kenya's president, the agreement will allow the country access to all of its fuel needs in the form of a six-month loan and eliminate $500 million in monthly demand in the market. |

| Re: OPEC+ Announces Cut In Oil Production by Dennisbulkan: 11:38am On Apr 03, 2023 |
owoshuyi:You have to put into consideration the trade volume coming out of Russian crude oil. Russia account for just a mere fraction of opec+ trade volume. Saudi, UAE, Iran, & the US still account for more than 90% of trade which are still traded in dollar. You should only be worried when the Arabs ditch the crude dollar for other currency (be rest assured that the west would gladly turn the entire middle East to waste land before that happens ). For now, no cause for alarm. In the future, maybe. |
| Re: OPEC+ Announces Cut In Oil Production by Dennisbulkan: 11:53am On Apr 03, 2023 |
shegzhkn:Dollar is a global reserve currency because the Saudis peg the dollar to the global crude market exchange. Meaning Saudis only accept the dollar in exchange for their crude oil. They can announced that they no longer accept the dollar any day if America piece them off & opt for gold instead, Chinese yuan, or whatever other than the dollar. American economy will crash hard as buyers will dump the dollar for whatever Saudi is accepting to get crude oil. Do more research about this, Google is there for you. & that, my friend, is the reason the US have been exercising restraint against the Saudis. |
| Re: OPEC+ Announces Cut In Oil Production by shegzhkn: 12:01pm On Apr 03, 2023 |
Dennisbulkan:Lol, still stuck in the 70s. You may be partly true but the USD is also backed by our enormous economy - we have the biggest country in the world : Apple, Alphabet, CVS, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing. And it seems you are forgetting something - the basis for our relationship with the Saudi is oil for security arrangements (you should know that) and don't think for once they can decide one night to start buy inferior military hardware from other world powers because that is literally impossible because of interoperability probs. Now I admit it is very hard to place a sanction on them without us feeling the heat because most of those petrodollars always find it way back to our economy - Saudi student scholarship, weapon sales, trade and services, etc. |
| Re: OPEC+ Announces Cut In Oil Production by Dennisbulkan: 12:24pm On Apr 03, 2023 |
shegzhkn:While it is true that the US economy is supported by large corporations like Apple, Alphabet, CVS, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Boeing, this argument does not fully counter the potential impact of the Saudis choosing to no longer peg their oil to the US dollar. The US economy may indeed be enormous, but it is still vulnerable to sudden shifts in global markets and economic relationships. Furthermore, while the US and Saudi Arabia do have a strong relationship based on oil and security arrangements, this does not guarantee that the Saudis will always choose to use the US dollar. If they were to switch to another currency or commodity, it could have a significant impact on the value of the dollar and the stability of the US economy. Finally, while it is true that Saudi Arabia's petrodollars do flow back into the US economy through various channels, this does not necessarily mean that the US is immune to the consequences of a shift away from the dollar. In fact, it could make the US even more vulnerable if it becomes too reliant on Saudi investment and trade. In short, while the US economy may be strong, it is not invulnerable to sudden shifts in global economic relationships. The potential consequences of a shift away from the US dollar as the global reserve currency should not be underestimated. |
| Re: OPEC+ Announces Cut In Oil Production by shegzhkn: 12:42pm On Apr 03, 2023 |
Dennisbulkan:I am not discounting the consequences of that shift, but folks make it look like a total disaster and of course the US economy is huge but not immune to economy dislocation - for example the war in Ukraine led the western world to abandon Russia oil so as not to fund the war but what happened the price of oil went up and also the price of everyday household items - egg, milk, cheese & energy price. And also the oil for security arrangements is simple - keep the oil flowing and sell in USD since Saudi is the largest oil exporter and the leader of the opec cartel and we will protect the Al Saud dynasty, that is the fundamental of the relationship. Now once in a while the Saudi tries to weaponise the oil to have some kind of leverage while negotiating (that is the only thing they've got) but they know what rupturing that relationship means. US does depend on Saudi investment much but it is notable to say they are the biggest buyer of our Weapon (Raytheon, LM, NG and Boeing biggest customer) and we will like to keep things that way not that they have any choice anyways (they are addicted to our hardware and it will be hard for 'em to start integrating Russia or china equipment into their defense installation) |

jaxxy:how many people are talking against the war? The fact they're not against it should tell you Russians are unanimous about the Ukraine war. Did you checked Putin's approval ratings conducted after the war started? Over 70% supported the government's decision to safeguard their territory from encroaching zombies in the name of NATO. You're probably one of those that believed Putin is a dictator that took power in a coup d'etat . There's no point arguing with you further. |
| Re: OPEC+ Announces Cut In Oil Production by jaxxy(m): 4:03pm On Apr 03, 2023 |
Badassniggga:putins approval ratings are as good as Abacha's approval ratings. Americans are speaking out against their own government over the war bt that can't happen in Russia. Some major personalities and even allies of putin in Russia have condemned the war risking their their lives in the past. Do that in China and u will disappear they are even worse than Russia.
