The people who sponsored this bill and their families do not use public hospitals.

You can't write primaries or even go to nysc camp if you don't have a permanent license, so how will this affect residency training?

I don't even know which ridiculousness to tackle first.

So the bill na even dead on arrival before he even arrive? 😂

I talk ham say these 10th assembly reps Dey smoke

when you're doing anatomy dissection the specimens are so bad that you don't even know what parts you're seeing. For book na red, for body na pitch black.

One day they'll come and announce that your school has lost accreditation or that teaching hospital workers are on indefinite strike and months and years will just be passing in limbo.

You'll come out and work like a slave In the name of House job and during NYSC they'll send you to one village that has thatch houses and can't even provide face masks and gloves in their health centres.

You will pay bribe 500-750k to get residency slot that will pay you 250k wey you go dey pay NARD dues, dey read for part 1, dey take calls. And life still dey go on, them go dey hail you Doc Doc for house. Expecting you to shoulder certain responsibilities and maybe even start your own family.

You go dey run PP after punishing hospital schedule because you have to survive.

Then one idiot with yellow teeth that has never worked a day in his life and has gone from SUG politics to National Assembly will come out from nowhere and come and tell you to give back to the nation.

Other professions are doing BDSM na, their hands are tied and they can't give back.

To be very honest, i totally understand you.

My defence is not even that your course is subsidised.

My defense is that if all of you leave, millions will die.

I understand your anger, and maybe you get to leave before this bill is passed.

But as a common person, with no advantage, the bill will save my life.

I totally understand you, boss

You read my comment very well.

He is the only person here that would complain and I'll keep quiet.

Apart from that, that bill would most likely be a lifesaver to me, and millions of Nigerians.

So after he has complained the bill would suddenly stop being viewed as a life saver to you and millions of Nigerians..

We have 133 million people in poverty abi?

So, if all the doctors japa, who would treat these 133 million?

Give me a solution, instead of all these back and forth, abeg
The 133 million persons will most-likely stay poor and whatever they think they're escaping today will be waiting for them down the road. By the time people find ways around doing medicine in Nigeria, I wonder who'd be there to treat them in 8 to 12 years time when people stop applying to study medicine here and those that do, do so to offer their services abroad. Imprisoning doctors in Nigeria will drive wages down, whoever is getting a private university medical degree isn't staying back to earn peanuts.

We're only postponing dooms day with this policy.

Lol. the experienced doctors will leave and the younger ones will stay and you're assuming it'll be a lifesaver to you and millions.

There are only 12 consultant pediatric nephrologists in Nigeria and one of them, a professor, just left to become an INTERN in the US.

His salary as an intern is somewhere around 40-50k USD annually. His salary as a Professor and a consultant will be less than that if you calculate at 750, and you want people not to leave?

That aside, is the public school education only subsidised for health workers? Abi other professions have nothing to contribute to our country?

The job of a president isn't to counter propaganda for propaganda. The people that wanted Buhari to speak wanted him to speak on issues, not necessarily to do propaganda vs propaganda. You seem to be rejoicing that Tinubu will essentially replicate Buhari's media absenteeism and get more of a pass because there'd be people to counter demands that he makes himself available with propaganda.

Buhari's govt media absenteeism will not be the case with Tinubu's govt. There will be enough people to respond on behalf of Tinubus govt

Anyone who now wants to start insulting Tinubu's ethnic group, will meet their match as well

If you want issues based you get issues based, if you want insult based you get insult based

All varieties are available

The solution is staring people in the face. But it doesn't affect them directly so they don't care.

Better working conditions, better remuneration. Gaskiya that is all.

The average salary in the English Championship is around 25-30k pounds per week if I'm not mistaken.
I have been a doctor officially since Feb 4, 2019. And in those 4+ years combined, I haven't earned up to a quarter of that.

How much do Nigerian lawmakers earn?

Go check the average starting salaries for agencies like NIMASA.

It's simple but nooooooo.....why should they want to leave? Who will we see to oppress??

Recently I had to irrigate a patient's eye to even see what I was dealing with. Make I raise eyelid to put under saline pump, nurse wey dey duty say saline pump no dey work and gloves no dey.

Had to do that with pure water sachet and my bare hands.

But look at how much money is being wasted by the country and stolen daily.

You were asking for solutions and they are simple.

Better working conditions, employ more hands, make it easier for foreign trained doctors to join the workforce, and better remuneration.

If we are discussing, let us be realistic and not running here and there

Nigerian doctors deserve at least £5,000 per week.

Which government can pay that now?

Literally allocate a part of our budget to the medical industry and pay them.. Then you can iron out requirements and whatnot.

The UK recently introduced a visa that is set to attract teachers to come.

If they all leave, what happens to the future of our children?

If all our civil engineers leave, will we keep importing people who don't understand the layout of our land to build, repair and maintain our infrastructure?

The world Is online. If all our Network and security engineers live, what happens to the security of our country which is Paramount?

If all our young researchers leave, what happens to our scientific advancement as a country?

This stance can be applied to anything, chief. And not everyone will leave, you and I know that.

This bill is the equivalent of amputating a patient's right arm because you want to prevent the rot on his left leg from spreading.

Maybe our UK brothers can help me, but this is what my Google says.

So how well will you pay a doctor, that he wouldn't consider running away to UK?

This is entry level

A houseman can expect to earn £50k to £65k

A general practitioner £90k

A Consultant £100k plus whether a specialist, Radiologist or Pathologist

This is for NHS work. Most Consultants and some GPs have private practice and rake in hundreds of thousands to millions. The ones that don't have private practice lecture on the side

Bill is dead on arrival. What identifies a Nigerian as a doctor, will his passport say so?

Healthcare is very competitive. Countries are dragging nurses from other countries talkless of doctors. Phillipines done hear wien from UK when it comes to nurses.

The only other country I know with restriction on Doctors leaving is Cuba, and Cuba allows their doctors 5 year exiat to other countries to earn big bucks at a time.
