I am alarmed at such uninformed washdown. You would think relocating to UK is a death sentence after reading the fellow's rubbish.

He should be muted!

Good morning everyone,

please my friend unfortunately had to work more than 20 hours because the bills were too much and he’s also the first child of the family so he had to pay siblings school fees and take care of his family back home in Nigeria.

He only started Working 34 hours after lectures was over and they were writing dissertation as he had exhausted every savings so needed money badly, It’s time for psw but he’s scared of doing the Visa because he doesn’t want to be caught and deported.

I’ve told him to try his luck and see what happens but he’s saying he doesn’t want to risk it, please is there any way for him to explain to the VO maybe in a cover letter or something else why he had to work those hours,

is it a bit better that he started working past 20 hours after lectures but during dissertation writing, can he also get a care sponsorship job as it is 2 months before the expiration of his visa and he’s been trying for weeks to get a care job but no luck.

Please don’t ignore as all advise are welcomed and my friend is very depressed now, we are trying to help but scared he might unalive himself because the financial pressure of going back to Nigeria might be too much.

Please can trade test certificate get me a job in the uk from nigeria?
I have certificate in plumbing electrical installations and solar/inverter installation and repairs.

Which of these trades have high chance of getting sponsorship?

My short answer would be NO .........

Our apprenticeship sector in Nigeria, suffers from lack of regulation/structure/affiliation.........

Let me flip your question........ Do you think a UK trained plumber/electrician/solar technicians, would easily get a job in USA/Germany/Australia(after some
equivalent exams are conducted).........

Your friend already knows his application would be refused and deportation would be the only answer (even if angels from heaven, writes an extenuating letter to UKBA)........

Why would a student in the UK (on restricted working visa, be paying fees for people in Nigeria)....... This sends all sort of wrong messages.......

It's time he informed those in Nigeria, that the yam they made him plant....... Is about to get harvested......

Never put the cart before the horse & never shut the stable doors, when the horse already bolted out ......

To my ancestors in the house,

Please I need your advice l, I know as a student working more than 20 hours is not allowed except during break. I am hustling and i need money, if I work more than 20 hours for some few weeks will I get into any trouble?

Also will I have problems getting my post work graduate visa later on?

Someone told me, in so far as I don't do more than 80 hours a month there is no problem. Is this true?

Please I need you guys experienced wisdom.

Guide me on the way🙏

The truth is in most cases it doesn't matter in so far as you don't do it too much, most people here know this but they are scared to tell you the truth.

I can tell you for a fact, that during my masters I worked more than 20 hours a couple of times and still got my post work visa.

The major thing is don't do it too much, don't fail any of your courses, in fact don't do anything that will make them want to investigate your case.

LOL @ try his luck. What other options does he have if he wants remain in the country 🙄?

By adding a cover letter, he is basically adding more salt to his wounds. The breach happened on a student visa so doesn’t matter if na care or psw.

Just apply as normal and hope it's undetected.

Tell your friend not to add any cover letter. Apply for PSW and hope for the best. I still never met anyone denied PSW on that ground though. I’m not encouraging anyone but I get upset till today that friends who did more than 20hours steadily got a faster successful application response on PSW than me wey obey. Life is not fair, also u can be the scapegoat

LOL

Was he depressed when he was over working?

Didn't he explain the situation to his family that it's better to wait until hes done with sch and he can then work and send even more? I don't understand his situation but the future cost should have been calculated before trying such

I remember Justwise from the student thread issuing warnings about overworking but he was constantly insulted even though he was just trying to help

Deed is done though and he can apply and still get it. I know a couple of people who over worked and still got their PSW

All the best to your friend

Your friend's assumption is not realistic.

S/he could have reached out to the agent/landlord to clarify the leave date and assumed grace window. Only what's written can be referenced.

From my experience, s/he would have to pay for the extra days spent outside of the tenancy agreement or payment window. Often, agents will propose to take the fee for those days from the deposit.

Your friend should have a reasonable conservation with the landlord. Negotiate the extension terms. Everybody wan make money. No free food for Freetown.

Yeah absolutely. But in the letter they received, it wasn't stated that they would need to pay a specific amount by that leave date.

Now, a superior at the letting agency has reverted and told them they don't need to pay if they leave on the date stated in the letter. So, the info they were furnished with before was wrong and their assumption was right.

Thank you.

Leeds city council told me they needed hard copy of the document so I had to pay 50k to a police officer for my certificate and waybill.

Yes it's very possible to work more than 20hrs in a week but it's a 50/50 thing. The VO might not notice it if u do it with sense ( don't exceed the £12k plus tax free) once the VO discover you work more than the tax free amount, then there might be a thorough check on your 20hrs compliance.
Please note that it's 50/50 thing and I won't encourage you to do it

Adding a cover letter will mean instant refusal. In some cases he might get a narrow escape if UKVI did not check his NI and work details, but if he add a cover letter he is self convicting himself. There is no reasonable and acceptable excuse to violet the rules of your student visa. before the visa was granted, I believe he presented proof of adequate funds to UKVI ?

I really don’t think it’s possible not to exceed the tax free amount because 20 hours will most likely give you £800 p/m and I don’t think there’s any job that will pay you just £300 so you can remain tax free.

800x12= 9,600

Earning like 900-1k monthly will give you about 12k?
