An eight-storey building situated inside the luxurious Banana Island in Lagos State has collapsed.

The building, sources said, is Joe Faraday’s site with ongoing construction works inside it.

A source said while it is unsure what triggered the collapse, concreting was ongoing on the sixth floor before the collapse.

A terse statement by NEMA said workers are trapped in the building and its officials are mobilising the response team to rescue the trapped victims.

Always perform all necessary tests before una build na. How can you buy lands billions per SQ meter and can't or rather refuse to conduct integrity tests at every level of your building.


Do people bother to ask about how integrity tests applies and matters to construction projects especially in high rising buildings at all?

If we say that as a society all buildings from certain heights must have integrity tests at every levels, are these tests not supposed to be scrutinized by the governing authorities from before and during building processes ?


And to think it's Banana island, written about on Wikipedia as the home to Nigeria's brightest minds and the cream of the society, yet in such quintessential issues fail woefully ?


How can Africa be ever redeemed how?


From the pictures, it's clear to see that it's yet again Chinese building technology.

I've always maintained that I don't trust modern Chinese architecture that focuses on material and cost reduction over safety concerns. No be me go stay for those buildings that looks like houses constructed over bamboo sticks

They are building high rise on soil that's not compact & stable.

Does the Lagos State govt do concrete cube test to verify the test of buildings they approved for development? If they rereally do strucural and integrity test. All these wont happen. And if they do, there is corruption somewhere, for such development to continue

The state needs to put more control in place .. sanction developers heavily if they circumvent the process.

You see anything more than one storey duplex, I can't trust a black man with it.
I always know I am taking big risks staying on anything more than one storey. Lagos is half water soaked. Make sure you fortified the base before building anything high there. The ones Oyibo built many years ago are still standing there

The developer incharge of that construction should be made to face the full wrath of the law. Mek these nonsense dey stop. Nigerian no dey copy oyibo finish. They copy tall buildings but not the quality of the constructions
