Ichigo (final Getsugatensho form) just went solo on Aizen the same way a grown adult solo's a petulant 3 year old Kid and kept swatting away every attack Aizen ( no matter how many times he trancended to a greater form) threw at him with a look of pure indifference to the point that the ever so calm Aizen finally lost it and started to doubt himself and scream at the top of his lungs and argue with himself that a mere human couldn't possibly be beating him and then urahara showed up and wrapped it up like a boss

Ichimaru was good, being able to destroy everything in sight with his bankai was insane and had Ichigo beat and just told him to run away and don't even bother against Aizen if he had already lost his will to fight. But to think he went through all that trouble and followed Aizen for over a hundred years waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike just because of Matsumoto rangiku was so stupid. Assuming he did everything for himself and wanted to beat Aizen just for the heck of it, that would have been so much better. His character quickly went from being a badass to below average and he ended up being the only one Aizen took it upon himself to kill outright in the battle and in the end he died for nothing. And don't even get me started on the Gotei 13 captains who fought in the make-shift Karakura town ( except Toshiro and Komamura ) who foolishly refused to use their bankai's even against an enemy much more powerful than them but will instead choose to be humiliated and beaten to within an inch of their lives and still won't use it like WTF?

It was pure revenge for him...and the fact that he wanted to stop Aizen from doing to others what he did to Rangiku...

The only way to stop Aizen was to get his weakness...

For the Gotei 13 captains that didn't use their bankais...they do have reasons...
Those Bankais can't be used in open areas where they have allies...since it affects the entire area

Both allies and enemies may be killed

About the Gotei 13, Yamamoto said something similar when he was fighting Aizen but when he realized that he wasn't going to win without doing something reckless he was about to unleash his bankai, which surprised Aizen who asked if he was really willing to kill everyone around just to get to him and Yamamoto replied that he was and everyone on the battlefield knew what they were getting into and if that's what it takes then let them all die as long as Aizen's plans dies along with them, Before Wonderwise showed up as Aizen's backup plan to seal the old man's Zanpakuto flames. That should have been the mindset of all the captains on that battlefield from the start since they went to all the trouble of creating the fake town to ensure no civilians casualties, It should have been kill or be killed from the start.



What did Aizen actually do to Rangiku to warrant Ichimaru to go to such levels? Nothing much was shown except for a flashback of Gin coming across Rangiku as a kid laying helplessly and bloodied in the forest with Aizen somewhere nearby collecting souls from some unfortunate soul reapers. If Aizen had taken her soul then she wouldn't have lived let alone going on to become a Shinigami. Aizen wouldn't personally beat up some unknown poor kid who wasn't worth his time nor the effort. So what did he do to the girl exactly?
