It’s annoying paying tax and reading about people in government spending it on things u don’t approve of |

The federal government has successfully concessioned the Onitsha Port in Anambra State while discussions are ongoing for Baro and other ports in the country. George Moghalu, managing director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), disclosed this while he answered questions from State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said, ”For Onitsha, we have successfully concessioned and handed over to Universal Elison, a company that is partnering with Port of Tuna for the next 30 years. “Now, because of limited resources and to reduce pressure on the government, we opened up discussions with other interested organisations, unsolicited proposals have come for the concessioning of Baro in Niger State, Oguta in Imo and Lokoja, Kogi capital; although they are still under construction. “So, we are discussing with them. The advantage here is that it will reduce pressure from the government; these people own this port, complete the port, put the port to use and pay royalty to the government. Cc obainojazz |

OasisX: ![]() Eve can actually be excused on two technicalities in this story, and it kills me how people have been missing it for so long: - she wasn't there when God gave the commandment to Adam. God only created her AFTER he had told Adam not to touch the tree of knowledge of good and evil, so abeg, do we know exactly what Adam communicated to his wife and how effectively he did so? (And I don't know if this is a translation or unimportant language matter, but Eve told the serpent that "the tree in the middle..." but God did not specify to Adam what position the tree was in.) Okay, that aside. - So she was not a direct recipient of the rule, and while she was LIED to, we got no references to her deceiving Adam or coaxing him or shit. All it said was, "And she GAVE to her husband", and he took and ate. Fiam. Finish. There was no speeches, no nothing. So Adam was most likely clear-headed and in complete possession of his thinking faculty, with open eyes until talubo ko wo. He was operating in the full capacity of his logic and awareness of the aftereffects, lmao. There's nowhere you'll see an account of how she deceived him. Nowhere. |

nihilistjnr:Paying a reasonable level of tax is fine until politicians start becoming frivolous with it. Nobody will complain to pay tax to cover emergency services, free education to secondary school, military, infrastructure, healthcare and shelter for the homeless It's when they start paying stuffs that should be personal responsibility that I begin to vex eg free school meals for kids when those kids parents can afford to smoke 20 cigar per day. I still dey vex with Marcus Rashford over that matter. The one wey off me na when Scotland mandate all public bathroom to have free tampons for women and labelled it "period poverty". So you telling me there is a single woman in Scotland that cannot put aside 50 pence from her monthly budget for that time of the month?

The Rivers State Government has agreed to an out-of-court settlement with the Federal Government on the backlog of stamp duty owed to the state. The approval for the state to withdraw the case was granted by the state House of Assembly during plenary on Thursday. This came as all 36 states of the federation are exploring out-of-court settlement over a case filed at the Supreme Court on the refund of funds collected as stamp duties from the state governments and the payment of five per cent consultancy fee. The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikuinyi Awani-Ibani, on Thursday, read a letter from Governor Nyesom Wike seeking the approval of the House for the payment of the consultancy fee which will be deducted from source. The lawmakers said the approval for an out-of-court settlement would help to fast-track the refund of all funds collected as stamp duty. The leader of the House, Martins Ameawhule, explained that the approval would be beneficial. He stated, “We have looked into the merits and demerits of this. I think that if the consultants were engaged and they need to be paid, we can go ahead to pay the consultants; so that we can access our funds. They would have played certain roles that would make them be in a position to receive the percentage of the funds accruing to the state. “Mr Speaker, I want to say that we proceed to grant approval for this request so that our state will be part of what other states have agreed to enable these funds get to Rivers State as quickly as possible.” |

raumdeuter:But one cannot detach these things by themselves, republican values represents societal retrogression while on the other hand it can be argued quite rightly that democrat presidents have handled the economy much better than their republican counterparts. Democrats control and have controlled at least 10 of the 13 wealthiest states in the US for the better part of 3 decades. California, newyork, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Washington, Maryland, Colorado etc while republicans have controlled only 3 of the top 13 wealthiest states, Texas, Florida and Georgia. So an argument could be made that recent precedence and history shows that democrats handle economy's better than their republican counterparts. Bill Clinton remains the only US president in recent history to run a budget surplus. I don't buy this myth that republicans are better with people's money. No! They focus on only the top 10 percent while deserting the remaining 90 percent and that is dangerous for any government or society. It'snt egalitarian. |

Ibime:As usual, very well said. Taxes are good, taxes are necessary, taxes are important but the most important factor is how that money is spent. It's just unfortunate that western countries seem to be a State of extremes. Barely any good compromise between both sides. |

BlaqFaze:Whoever did this is a very stupid person. This is the height of misrepresentation of stats and Infact pedagogical weaponisation of statistics. This stats is saying there are more poor people per square mile (in other words, land mass). Of course, south east will top this because it is virtually the smallest region of all bia landmass. . Notice how the map is almost in order of physical size of each region. From south east to south south to south west. If this stat for instance was between Russia and Britain. Britain will come out as pooreer just like the south east because the preogative is the physical size of the are. Britain will have more poorer people per square kilometers despite having overall Less poorer people because in Russia the poor are more spread out. Very stupid stat this is. |
