Zonefree: US said the same thing here, they only evacuated embassy staff - the message read; Due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and closure of the airport, it is not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens. |

Mindlog:Oga, give Nigeria a break. We are all worried over the people in Sudan but some countries have been able to evacuate some of her citizens while others couldn't. Nigeria just happened to be among the countries that couldnt |

EgwunsoDOTcom: US also said it is not possible to evacuate its citizens, they only evacuated their diplomats and embassy staff Due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and closure of the airport, it is not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens. |

AbdulHakeem44:how do you expect any country to respect you when corruption is the number one policy of every government in this country? The worst part is, who will respect a country that voted for a drug dealer as their president. Very soon even Benin republic will insult Nigeria and nothing will happen. |

Mindlog: You probably should take a moment to understand that US is also unable to evacuate its citizens, they only extracted 70 staff. Due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and closure of the airport, it is not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens. |

Lumig: Kept waiting for that part of the report and was shocked when the State Department admitted they could not extract private citizens? This is where the so-called US leadership should come to bear. Create an emergency initiative with G7 countries. Deploy the George Washington CSG to the Horn of Africa. It's already in the Mediterranean. Hasten deployment of one of the 3 CSGs in the continental US to maintain force posture. Activate CIA, Green Beret, and Delta Force operatives and make use of the litany of bases and stations in the Middle East. Djibouti and Ethiopia serve as connecting points for Qatar and UAE. Rescue all G7 citizens. But I guess they're looking at the Afghanistan playbook and believe that since the Taliban did not mess with American citizens left behind. The warring Sudanese factions would not. Any such extraction operation in the midst of an active conflict will cost a sh*t ton and require lots of logistics with the odds of something going wrong at high levels. That said, since US citizens pay taxes on worldwide income, regardless of residency, unlike 98% of the planet, they should absolutely demand a rescue whatever the cost. That's the whole point of paying for 11 aircraft carriers. By the way, this is one awesome reason to have dual citizenship if you can afford a plane ticket. When SHTF, the likes of US, UK, Japan, Canada, Germany, France are a better insurance plan. Imagine Ethiopians ignoring an official correspondence from the State Department to let US citizens through the border. -Lord 3 Likes |

Tinubuderanged: Corruption has been thriving since independence but then we command respect and formidable military in Africa. In as much as I agree corruption is part of the problem, it is not solely the problem. It is a collective problem but as human nature, always point accusing fingers to the leaders. |

AbdulHakeem44: @bold. You are right, I'm sure that's why the US is extending thanks to Saudi Arabia in the statement for their role in the evacuation effort. However, the Nigeria government is still grossly incompetent in our foreign relations. We always suffer from this die-minutes syndrome where we wait till something is almost beyond repair before we act...largely for selfish reasons. Imagine sending a letter to Ethiopia in a war situation that can be dumped anywhere. How about calling their diplomatic lines directly either by the minister or even the president himself, to reach an agreement so our people can take refuge in that country. It is because of our incompetent government that's why even countries like Sudan don't take us seriously or fear us, especially when we are even Specialists in killing our own citizens before the very eyes of the world. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Emeskhalifa: The US does same even when they cause chaos in your country. Vietnam .... Afghanistan. No doubt it is difficult to fly citizens out of a war zone ... but is it only by air can they be evacuated from that zone? The fighting is mainly in the capital ... why can't the FG direct its citizens to a location outside of Khartoum? Then again .... the students and citizens resident in Khartoum.... didn't they know this was brewing and they needed to start moving out? We are sooooo dependent on an unreliable FG for everything .... tough luck... they need to get up and get. |
