For the present/near future, I recommend that you look into a hybrid from a large manufacturer rather than a Tesla or another full EV. Even the hybrids at lower price points have the performance and features of sports cars and are something to brag about.
Try avoiding the mistakes I made—I’m a former Tesla owner and currently have a full EV (BMW iX) and recently bought a hybrid (Honda CR-V) for everyday use. Buying and owning a Tesla was a cool experience but I could turn back time, I would’ve skipped both the Tesla and iX and purchased a hybrid of some type. I was able to charge my Tesla at home but I hated having to sometimes map and detour in order to charge it during trips or periods away from home and it required more maintenance than anything I owned before. Now while I love the performance of my iX, the short time I’ve had it has been a nightmare—it was an impulse/vanity purchase that I admit that I regret. Not only is charging a pain and costly, there’s already been recalls that required me to be in loaners for extended periods of time. Since I got it, I’ve been on one road trip and that bad experience is what led me into getting my CR-V (the tax credit from my iX purchase also helped). The payments and insurance on my CR-V are half of my iX payments😔and so far, it’s been carefree and cheap to own.
I’d recommend a Tesla if you’re able to get one of the rental returns that are being sold or if you get a big discount on a new one from a dealership. Otherwise, I don’t recommend buying a second hand one from a private buyer or a new one at a non-discounted price from a dealer. Chevy/GMC has a truck that I’ve been hearing good things about.
