Guys, why are recruiting firms in Nigeria this wicked? I was invited for an interview which was to start by 9am. As at 12:30pm, I was still in the waiting room.
Why can't they give time to each person instead of inviting everybody to join at the same time?
Eventually, I had to log out when I was tired.
This is wickedness oo
So what have you achieved with your time since you logged out? Good you were never hired. Your judgment is poor

If you have the time to wait, I advise you wait. But note down this red flag and other red flags you might notice during the interview process. These information will come handy when you want to decide whether you will work for them (if they offer you the job).
Truth is that many HR teams in Nigeria are woeful and disorganised when it comes to time management. But the actual team you will be working with might be quite different.

All the best.

I don’t think one should work for a company that don’t value their applicant time….. it will be a very toxic workplace

Recruiting firms that already have their own chosen candidates for the Job grin... The Interview is mostly to keep up an appearance of a legit selection...

Nigerians accuse Buhari of nepotism and corruption, while most Nigerians are terribly nepotistic and corrupt even their small roles.. Buhari is the true personification of the average Nigerian..

To show how bad the situation is, even sharing rice in a Nigerian wedding is aggressively controlled by Cliques and Caucuses, friends, committees, Church groups, etc.. If you attend a Nigerian wedding without belonging to the dominant caucus there, You will watch people get their 3rd plate of food while you are left with Eva wine and Bigi Cola grin

That is the acccurate depiction of the average Nigerian.

I was invited for in interview with spectranet about 2 month back, the interview was slated for 11 am and I got there by 9:30 only for me to seat in their reception till 6:30pm before I was interviewed and when the white idian who was conducting the interview called me in, he claimed he is not aware that I am around.
The funny thing is that their staffs were stylishly mocking and laughing at me, some of them will say something like Oga interview are you still here?
It has been two months since the interview and I am yet to hear from them even when they promised to get back to me.

At least they have people to interview, I was invited by a school three years back for interview slated for 9.a.m.

I got there 8.40 a.m waited till 2 p.m, no one attended to me, rather I asked to wait further. I was the only one.

I was about leaving when the principal said "that was part of my interview (test of patience), I remain calm until he said they actually needed school father (boarding school).
The rest na history. ....
Test of pa......... God help I don suffer for this country!
Re: Waiting in The Waiting Room For 3:30mins by theamazonguru(m): 2:53pm On Apr 28, 2023
Everything for this country is some how.

The way the whites reason and conduct things is Miles apart from the way we do our things.

We believe so much in hard labour, suffering the other person before he gets what he wants and all that.

3 instances
1. My kids were having a video call with their cousins who now live in UK.
Then my children asked, when is your exam, the response was:
"We don't write exams,we only do assessments".
This assessment is tailored to each child.
Not the type we do here where a child is made to read a book from cover to cover , yet knows nothing.
2. My friend just obtained her MSC from a university in UK.
She told me, she didn't write any semester exam or whatever. All they do is turn in different research assignments from time to time. And each assignment must meet up with a particular standard. Putting into cognizance, plagiarism, grammar check etc.
Hence you must have premium account on most of this writing tools like grammarly, turn-it-in etc

Even if you don't want to read, the fact that you must research will make you read and understand that thing so you can put it in your own words in order to avoid failing plagiarism test, thereby encouraging originality.

3. I got an interview invite in 2015 from a French multinational here in Nigeria.
It was on a Sunday, they asked me to come for an interview that same day after lunch.
I told them it was not convenient for me as I was far away from the state where the company was.
I requested they permit me come the following day, they asked me to bid my time and come on Wednesday to allow me prepare well for my journey.
Meanwhile they arranged my flight oh.
Then shockingly, the man who eventually became my manager, referred me to a staff, he asked me to meet him before the said interview so I can know more about the interview.

On getting there, I met with the said staff, guess what?
This guy prepped me for the interview.
Told me what I should say and all.

Men and brethren, I got that job.
No be anyhow job self.

These experiences make me believe, our way is far far different from the way the whites reason.
Them no dey make life difficult for people, unlike us here.

May God help Africa.
May God help my country Nigeria.

I don't think they'd expect you to wait for 3 hours. It's not a test and doesn't make any sense.

Best thing to have done after waiting for 30 mins is to logout of the meeting, send them an email notifying them and stating that you would be available once they can fix the issues they may be experiencing at their end...

needed to be sure you are not engaged and trying to attend their interview then still go for half day job in your suspected current job. Get it? It also means you have no option and so could be cheap.
Naija employers doesn't reason that way, they are naturally unorganized.

They do worse to their employees, they can schedule a meeting for 12 noon, only to call in by 4pm that the meeting won't be holding again

You haven't help him answer the simple question I asked. He probably used that time to insult others on Nairaland or other social media or doing one inconsequential thing. Life in itself needs patience. I have waited 4hours before to be interviewed for a job which turned out to be life changer for me even then, I was on another job not jobless as he is.
I have gone for marketing where I have had to wait for almost half a day to see my contact. In life you need patience

The problem is that most recruiters see themselves as semi-gods. You can easily perceive the air of pride & arrogance all around them. This is not a test of patience but sheer irresponsibility.

In Nigeria, human dignity is never respected, especially towards Job seekers. It is inhuman to keep people waiting unnecessarily without a reason or an apology

Know this and know peace, we are what we are by the Grace of God.

God bless you!!

True....most HR are actually overworked, especially those in big organisations were they oversee salary issues, onboarding and staff discipline as well. Some even are in charge of admin. People only know about the recruitment part.
