So faan expect us to believe that people woke up and started encoraching on their lands. No, someone in faan sold the lands to them because he felt the land is too large and is wasting away. It is the case with govt properties situated on very large expanse of land. Some md or ceo comes, sells the land, give receipts and down the line they start shouting encorachment.

Can I sell Army barracks to you? Common sense would have saved a lot, if property owners spent little time on verification.

A competent surveyor would have detected such.

I wish to thank (FAAN) for the clarifications made to correct the erroneous information circulating in the public arena. It has been well noted and will be addressed and treated in due course in the passage of time.

If all these aforementioned steps has been taken by FAAN and in collaboration LASG to ensure safety for people living within the FAAN perimeter fence. What is the hullaballo of the woman that was crying when the demolition of recalcitrant people's property?.
I think FAAN needs to extend this demolition exercise to shasha axis in Akowonjo, Lagos State as well.

True. But no one will sell such to you in the first place. All maps are mapped and allocated. No way you can sell such property.

You can trace any property right from your mobile phone and know restrictions.
I'm sure the buyers were aware of the dangers but was hoping it will be resolved the Nigerian way. Over 200 houses survive only those that were considered security threat were demolished. I visited a friend in that neighborhood and I was surprised how people could stay or why government should allow citizens to stay in such a dangerous place and constitute security threat. Planes fly barely over those houses. Me I can't stay there.

Good!

Now tell me, if tomorrow, government destroys such property, would you be shocked?

Possible property was rightfully acquired from the Military, but like I said, investing time in verification saves alot

Same with me! Most aviation disasters happen during take off and landing. I won’t use my money to buy high risk.

We are saying the same thing but from different sides.

It is right to hear from the affected individuals too. After all it happened in lagos State
But the issue no concern the Lagos State Govt at all nah undecided

The issue is between an FG and people who built properties on Government land.

Did you even go through the article at all? If the owners of the property have an issue with the FG, let them go to court.

Make I make the job easier for you

It is important to state clearly that the area of land presently housing the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos was acquired for public use by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Lands Acquisition Ordinance by FGN Official Gazettes in 1944, 1972, and 1975 respectively.

Sometimes in the year 2000, the Authority noticed some encroachments within its acquired land in Lagos and a committee was set up to investigate and compel those encroaching to cease and desist from such actions.

The committee thus put up "Caveat Emptors" and positioned them strategically within the areas under encroachment( they are still in place). Publications were done in national dailies and advertorial jingles in local radio stations, warning people of the risks in purchasing and building on Restricted Aviation Land without consideration to the direct dangers on aircraft operations and the building occupants themselves.
These warnings were not heeded.

Don't you think it's right to hear from the affected individuals before drawing conclusions
Why do you need to hear from them knowing fully well that land grabbers and some greedy people knowingly encroached on govt property to the extent that they will say we will use our own before govt come. Some have been squatting for over 10 years and above .,the worse cases are the fuel stations and the like they were mostly built on roads, pipelines and power line reserves areas.

Beware of all these wicked real estate companies advertising lands and estate and deceiving people to buy lands. Many of them are not genuine. The land you buy today may be taken back from your children in another 20 to 30 years.

Ostrich. In law, they say in Latin "ignorantia juris non excusat."

In simple English, Thomas Jefferson said, “Ignorance of the law is no excuse in any country. If it were, the laws would lose their effect, because it can always be pretended.” grin

Why not take compelling action to force those erring to comply immediately? Why waiting this long since some people only need affirmative action to force them to do what is right?

Every single adult Nigerian is 100% aware of this. People should stop the pretense. In my hood, one man blatantly built a mansion on a land that was clearly marked for road and drainage. He was shown the masterplan even before construction, he ignored it all as if it's nothing. They marked the fence with large X after 3 years, he painted over it.

In his case, A Pharaoh will soon come that won't know Joseph then some people from his 'tribe' will start the classical demonstration of "appeal to pity" as if that makes any sense in law grin .

What would they say?

They had told us before now that it was Tinubu and Sanwo Olu that were witch hunting them bcoz of election.

What would they say more than this? Lies upon lies to get public sympathy but Sanwo Olu just ignored them.

They would never admit they did wrong rather they would be playing victim cards.. bcoz I'm from so so place.

Even without government putting caveat emptor, how do people hope to live in houses they built within close perimeter to the airport with all the NOISE that comes with landing and take off? I don't know how inhabitants there adjust to sounds that appear like plane can..... at anytime for ontop their heads/ roofs... Na WA oooo ...

With the way things are to buy land in Lagos henceforth comes with extreme care, if not people may start moving to neighboring states which will further boost their IGR and tax payers may be more respected before, during and after elections or they invest in their states.
