So faan expect us to believe that people woke up and started encoraching on their lands. No, someone in faan sold the lands to them because he felt the land is too large and is wasting away. It is the case with govt properties situated on very large expanse of land. Some md or ceo comes, sells the land, give receipts and down the line they start shouting encorachment.
let me educate you on how these things work in Lagos State. I have got experiences with buying lands. All land in Lagos were owned by different families. However, government has surveyed all the lands and they are planned. Government inform the families(omo onile) about which parts of their lands have been acquired for certain development( such as hospitals, schools, parks, airports, police stations, offices, major roads etc). Government leave the rest for them. These plans are given to the families and of course the government own copies too which the general populace are privy to.

Now, what happens most times is that, the families who are most times greedy, after selling their lands, move to selling of government lands as well. Especially lands that its purposes are not yet defined by government. They know their limits but for greed, they won't.

People who buy lands too can go verify from the government. And no government agency will advise you to buy such lands. The little twists is that, just as over 200 houses were spared according to the FAAN report, most times once people start building on such lands and the number of houses are quite numerous, government will call them for regularisation in order to let it go. Government won't want to demolish too many houses just to build offices or a recreation centre. This is why there are no enough recreation centres in Nigeria.

Because the people know this, they ignore whatever the outcome of their verification might be, defile such warnings and go ahead to build. What people now do is to negotiate for cheaper prices since the land is not free of encumbrances. But sometimes, just in this case, government won't be able to look away citing risks and potential hazards as reasons.

True. But no one will sell such to you in the first place. All maps are mapped and allocated. No way you can sell such property.

You can trace any property right from your mobile phone and know restrictions.

If they also checked with land registry, they wouldn't have bought too.

Nigeria works if only you can do the right thing.

Honestly to real settle this matter and make it never happen again. FG suppose arrest all the houses owners, the government staffs that collect bribe to give them approval and those who sold the land and jail them. No matter who they knw, they suppose get huge punishment. This is the only way we can wash our country of bad behaviors.
Now, UK just jailed Ike Ekeremadu for human trafficking and organ harvesting. I believe no Nigeria or any citizen of any country will try such on uk land again.
Until we allow rule of law in Nigeria, we will continue to witness lawlessness and bad behaviors.

Some can even argue that am coming am coming of Government may not come for next 50yrs. It's when they forget about the condition of the land in most cases is when the government show up one day.

For those who are not aware, "Caveat Emptor" means "Buyers beware". The government isn't obliged to compensate their loss.

Any person who went on to buy a plot of land there did that out of ignorance, negligence or due to misrepresentation.

I sympathize with those who have lost their property.

Beg is an Understatement

It won’t Work this time

From now on only those who can show and declare their Loyalty to the State and the Region will be allocated Shops

Never again will Terrorists try to burn down Lagos or use any Market as an excuse to infiltrate the City

Markets that Lagos Government was supposed to have relocated Over 4 years ago
If not for begging

the place is along the MMIA road after JHALOBIA GARDENS.. the space is even on canals and see massive buildings.. planes fly overhead with noise.. i doubt how those people sleep at night... the FAAN mgt may have informed them of the destruction years ago but changing of managers and staffs may have stalled the demolition but a manager that sees that place as security risk take up the challenge..

We are simply lawless in Nigeria, yet we are quick to compare Nigeria to countries that obey their laws and policies. Any reasonable person who desire to buy a land must have done search to be sure the said land is free from encumbrances and nuisances.
From the explanation of FAAN, efforts have been on since 2000. Markings were made yet they proceeded with building. Na wa o
there's markings like that in Shasha Egbeda neighborhood

The whole of mafoluku was faan leased land so technically they were not to be permanent structures but later they released it to the people.

For small money 10k or less one can check the status of land in Lagos so if you decide to take risk it’s on you.
