Osinbajo won’t still get up to 10% in the South East even if he is on the ballot.

If Awolowo with all his brilliance and notoriety couldn’t get that, who the hell is Osinbajo for you to think the people that voted Obi will vote him?

The only region Osinbajo can win is the SW + Kwara. Outside the SW, he can’t win any single state if he were to be on the ballot for that election.

I’m pretty sure Tinubu won’t work for him in that scenario, so Osinbajo will just be left to supervise his own defeat. Buhari can’t even save him too.
You don't know igbos well don't speak for them. Igbos supports quality respective of tribe or religion.

As at 1979, Zik of Africa was still far more of a popular name than Awo in most of the country. I believe the only non- Yoruba place Awo was popular was Benue and that would have been due to his previous history with Tarka.

Also though Awo took religion and to an extent christianity very very seriously, I am not aware he overtly campaigned with it like some people tend to. That's one of the reasons he was beloved by Yoruba across all religions ( traditionalists and Muslims included).
Awolowo performed better than Zik in BENDEL. I believe the two enjoyed equal popularity outside the Igbo/Yoruba terrain.

Regarding the original post, I don't see Osinbajo countering the Obi wave in either Plateau, Edo/Delta, or Benue. He may have won all Southwest states but would lose badly in the Northwest/Northeast.

I jave not agreed with Yorubakwe for a long time but he is right on this one

Had Osibanjo been on the ballot, Northern Muslims may not have voted for him
Especially with that naira redesign saga. As northern muslims refuse him, Obi would have convinced Southern Christians more that Osinbanjo and APC brought in the bad policy naira redesign.

Asiwaju was ahead of them by criticising the policy first and insinuating that some of his party members and cabals in ASO Rock were doing it to target him thereby gaining the sympathy of his fan base and other parts of the masses ahead of time. This confused the opposition and made them go the other way. A tactical chess game played by the Tinubu camp there spearheaded by El Rufai and Ganduje (who both got the memo on time).

With Osinbajo there, he would have tried to enumerate the beauty of the policy or defend Buhari his boss and his opponents would then be on the side of the people eating him raw.

Lol funny submission, if you want to know who was more popular btw Zik and AWO, just check out 1979 and 1983 election results. Zik was never in the competition, it was always a fight btw Shagari and Awo. Zik came a distant 3rd in both elections. Zik’s popularity was almost totally limited to the East. When next you want to compare political popularity, don’t use emotions, use past election results of the individuals. I know some years to come some people will even say Peter Obi, Orji Kalu or another regional politician was more popular than Tinubu when facts have shown that today Tinubu is the single most popular politician in Nigeria, even more popular than Buhari, unfortunately.

Of course. Osinbanjo would have lost so bad. That's why Obidients were rooting for Osinbanjo. They knew he stood no chance against their PDP or PDP Lite (LP)

The truth is that Sanusi with due respect is trying to be mischievous. In the last election none of the politicians can withstand the sagacity of Atiku, except jagaban.Osinbanjo here is seen in the core North as a religious fundamentalist and Atiku will capitalize on that and also many of the APC stalwart won't work for him. Before 12 p.m the election will be over. The northerners are even more relaxed with Ameachi than osinbanjo

Yes that’s why they supported Quality Azikiwe over Awolowo who had better performance for 1979 and 1983 election.

Same reason they supported quality Bashir Tofa over MKO Abiola who won the other parts of the country including the North.

That’s why they also supported Quality Ikpeazu who have turned Abia to New York. I can see Ndigbo support quality.

Only in your dreams was Zik more popular than Awo in 1979. Awolowo had twice his votes in total. cheesy Shagari won that election because he won the whole north except Kano (which went rogue and voted Aminu Kano instead).

The truth is that tinubu would have worked against APC and that will result to failure. If the election were to be free and fair, some people who voted for obi will have simply vote for the vice president.
No matter what, as long as Tinubu is not on the ballot for APC Atiku would have won by 12 noon

Very true. North would not have voted for him instead moved their votes to Atiku, people like me in the SW would have stayed at home rather than vote for a traitor in Osibanjo and the ibos will still have voted for OBI, wile would have mobilized for OBI ( or rather he won’t have bothered to rig Rivers for Tinubu).

The net effect is Atiku lwould have won.

Wrong analysis.

Osibanjo wouldn’t have rigged the election, and even if he lost, he’d score more than a free and fair Tinubu election.

Bro there is no sense at all in all you have said.
Sanusi has always expressed his thoughts without equivocation.

Moreso, you seem not to understand power play. Ganduje has become as useless as the P in psychology having lost woefully to NNPP in Kano. Tinubu is now hobnobbing with Kwankwaso. Also remember that El Rufai, a strong Sanusi loyalist na Tinubu paddyman.

BRIMBRAM:
grin

Sanusi the former Emir lol wants to start projecting himself to the public after hearing that the emirate issues in Kano State will be reviewed. And the best way is by making controversial statement in order to draw attention to himself. Sanusi knows the obvious truth. At Least he has started getting the attention he wants but he should be careful because Ganduje can still deal with him being Tinubu's right hand man. cheesy

God bless the Jagaban
osinbajo could have won too... Tinubu won not by high margin self... Imagine a situation where Obi kwankwanso were in PDP APC could have Lost out... I mean despite Atiku not getting much votes in South East and won Akwa ibom bayelsa in South south see how he gave tinubu a run people forget the party Carry weight... Would tinubu have won if he ran on SDP platform??

You clearly are too young and are a product of a lack of history classes. Awo won current Delata and Edo states. You probably don’t know edo and delta were part of the old western region and Awo,s free education and other programs in that region when he was premier. There is a reason Alfred Rewane and Alex Ibru were staunch Awo loyalists. He also did well in gongola (taraba/adamant) although he didn’t win. Gongola was the only region outside the LOOBO states (Lagos Oyo, ogun, bendel and ondo). as they used to be called then where Awo did well. By the way Awo only got about 2% in Benue…so much for your knowledge of what occurred in 1979, truth is if you actually knew anything about Nigerian politics in 1979, you would know that Tarka was aligned with Shagari in NPN in 1979 under which he contested and won a senatorial seat.

As for religion, religion was not an issue in politics in the Awo era. Nobody EVER EVER talked about religion, the issues were tribe and north v south. For instance Jakande and his deputy were both Muslims, he won by 95% in Lagos, Awo and his running mate in 1979 Phillip Umeadi were both Christian’s and both southerners, A state like Oyo with many Muslims, Bola ige and his deputy S.M. Afolabi were both christians, same with Ogun and ondo. In 1983 he chose a northerner but not because of religion but for Northern penetration. Nobody talked about religion in our politics until 1999. Even when Abiola picked a Muslim in 1993 religion was never an issue.

In those days most yorubas were known by their Yoruba names, it is since 1999 that your childhood friends suddenly start bearing or adding their Muslim names when religion became part of our politics.

As for Zik’s popularity, he only won 3 states, Awo won 5. The only state Zik won outside ibo land was Plateau, he lost rivers and cross rivers. If you look at the 13 states outside outside Yoruba and ibo lands, Awo beat Zik in more states than Zik beat Awo. There is a reason why it was Awo that took Shagari to court resulting in the infamous 12.2/3rds and not Zik….because Zik came 3rd…. Awo got almost twice the votes zik got. Zik’s glory days was pre and post independence before the 1966 coup, after that his star had faded as a national leader and was effectively a regional or ethnic politician. It has been difficult for any ibo politician to gather national support ever since and they are still not helping themselves with the brand of politics they play.

It won’t cost you anything to verify before you post….especially if you were not a 1st hand witness to events.

He said the whole truth.
Atiku is biggest politician after buhari in the north, pdp said this many times.
Shettima and atiku got almost the same number of votes in borno and yobe combined. That's the base of Shettima.

So if apc candidate was not a strong politician like tinubu, many of those voted for apc would have put their votes for atiku.
Even apc would not have gotten that amount of votes in the south.
Northerners doesn't trust Osinbajo for sacking most of their kinsmen when Buhari was sick and hospitalised in the uk

I wanted to respond to the comment of Zik being more popular than Awolowo despite the results in public space but just felt it is unecessary trying to banter with people who seem hell bent on always re- writing history. The story and history of the civil war is still be re- writing to the delight of some people.

Well done for your good response
